【題目】 “Life’s a long, long journey”, so we can’t set off on a journey without some idea of where we wanted to go. Yet many people travel on life’s journey with no sense of direction at all.
Setting personal goals (目標(biāo)) can give our life a sense of direction. Goal setting is used by top sports players, successful business people and achievers in all fields. Before you set personal goals, think about what you want to achieve in your life.
Try to set goals in some of the following categories (類別).
● Education—Will you achieve the educational goals after finishing high-school? Are you still growing and learning? ● Family—What kind of relationship do you want with your parents and other family members? ● Creative—Do you want to achieve any artistic goals? | ● Occupation—What do you want to do when you grow up? What do you need to learn to make your dream come true? ● Public Service—Do you want to make the world a better place? ● Physical—Are you fit enough to do the things you want to do? ● Pleasure—How do you want to enjoy yourself? |
Write down the goals and think about them carefully. To help make the process (過程) more easily, divide your goals into smaller tasks. For example, if you want to reach a main goal in five years, set a three-year goal, a one-year goal, a three-month goal and a one-month goal. The create a daily To-Do List of things that you should do today. When a goal is achieved, take the time to enjoy your success. This helps you build the self-confidence.
Remember, your goals can change as time goes on. But be sure your goals are things you hope to achieve, not what your parents, family or teachers want.

【題目】 We usually have a good mood if we sleep enough at night. Otherwise, sometimes we will feel sad. What’s more, sleep also influences our study or work.
You might be asleep but part of your brain is not. It’s carefully keeping time for you. In the morning, a thing called PER is released (釋放), which slowly wakes you up, often right before your alarm clock is set to go off. Sleep-talking can include some broken noises or complete sentences. About 5 percent of adults do it. It happens to children more often. And fever, stress, worries or sadness may lead to it.
Most people grind ( 磨 碎 ) their teeth while they are asleep, at least sometimes. An unusual bite or even sleep apnea ( 窒 息 ) may lead to this habit. Most people are not aware of this until the doctor tells them. If you harm your teeth at night, your dentist can give you a mouth guard to prevent it.
You think you’re resting, but your brain is doing some serious housekeeping every single night. While you are asleep, your brain clears out some memories and organizes others again. The brain also cleans itself and moves away unnecessary and harmful things.
Your muscles ( 肌 肉 ) are frozen for part of every night. In fact, it’s okay to be paralyzed ( 癱 瘓 的 ) during sleep. During rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, your brain is busy dreaming. To prevent yourself from acting to the dreams, our body’smuscles will be paralyzed. It’s possible to wake up during the end of this cycle and be awake but unable to move. These usually pass quickly.
Each night you lose about a pound because of the water vapor ( 蒸 汽 ) while breathing. So it is the most pleasant for you to weigh yourself in the morning. Take advantage of it!
