Do pretty school uniforms lead to early romance?
A technical secondary school in Nanjing planned to order Korean-style school uniforms for students, but parents didn’t agree because they believed that the new uniforms looked too good and would encourage early romances among the students.
Parents
“My daughter was so excited about the Korean-style uniform, saying it’s her dream to wear mini-skirt to school every day,” a mom complained. “Girls also talk about how handsome the boys looked in the uniform! If the students wear such beautiful uniforms, how can they study well? I prefer the sports wear which makes me think of health and positive(積極的) thinking.”
Students
The students are sorry about the school’s final decision. They think the sports wear uniforms make them look androgynous (難分性別).
They said the Korean-style uniform has many advantages such as raising interest in class and lifting confidence. It is also considered to be a good way to develop their sense of pride for the school and help then create good temperaments(氣質).
As for romance, the students believe that love is love and has nothing to do with the uniform.
School
“The plan to change the school uniform from sports wear has been cancelled,” Mr Lin, a teacher, told the interviewer.
“The students dislike the present uniform, most of the students prefer Korean style school uniforms. We know cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou have changed their sports wear school uniforms to more fashionable uniforms. However, we had to stop the plan because many parents are strongly against it. Some parents think it’s just a way for the school to make money, and others think the new uniforms will take students’ attention away from their studies,” Lin said.
When asked about the problems with early romance between students because of the more fashionable uniforms, Lin said he hadn’t considered it. He, however, agreed that the Korean-style uniform makes the students more attractive.
Education department
“We don’t have a unified (統(tǒng)一的) standard for school uniforms. The schools can choose their own styles. Either sports wear or uniforms are OK,” an official said.

【題目】 There was once a very wide tree in South Africa. 60 people could stand in its hollow trunk(空心樹干). The tree reached over 18 meters into the sky and it was more than 1, 100 years old. But recently, that tree and others like it have died.【1】
The tree was a baobab(猴面包樹). Baobab trees grow in Africa and are called"the Tree of Life”.
Baobab trees usually live a long time. One of the oldest stood for more than 2, 400 years.

Stephan Woodborne, one of the six scientists, says more research(研究)is needed to know why the trees died.【3】That's because the trees clearly weren't sick. Besides, many were in national parks, so they were protected from human activities. They believe that increasing temperatures and changing rainy seasons have made it harder for baobabs to live.
"The big ones and the old ones caught the attention of people, Woodborne says. "But it's not just those. 【4】People should be more environment-friendly. It is one way to help protect baobabs and other trees from the effects of climate change, according to Woodborne. 【5】
“We need to think about the way we live our lives. "Woodborne says. "If we all change what we do a little bit, it will start to make a difference.”

B.Smaller and younger baobabs are dying too.
C.However, they think climate change may be the main reason.

【題目】 What exactly is persuasion? Persuasion is a process that enables you to change others’ attitudes, opinions, or behaviors. When you are watching TV, there are so many advertisements to persuade you to buy their products. When your naughty son does not like to write his homework, you will punish him, which is also a persuasion.
Persuasion is a very important skill nowadays. It is fulfilling everywhere, every time. In many ways, persuasion combines art and science. It’s an art in that it requires the ability to establish trust and strong communication skills. It’s a science in that it centers on the disciplined collection and analysis of information and solidly researched principles (原則) of human behavior.
Persuasion is everywhere, but the effect is very different.
When we persuade, first we should be believable. If someone is an expert in a certain field, his or her speech will be convincing when he or she expresses opinions about this field. It is interesting that if someone’s aim is not to affect your opinions, and he or she has no benefit from your decision, this person seems to be more trustful. What’s more, we need to be attractive. If we like someone, we will be affected by him or her on some unimportant topics. Even if this person tells us he or she wants to affect, maybe we will also be affected.
The methods of persuasion are necessary too. First you should think wise for choosing your topic. A good topic is a big impact to catch your audience. Then when you have done selecting topics, now it’s time to brainstorm how you will have a deep conversation with your audience to give them more ideas about your topics. And think about who your listener is and what they want to know. How will you catch their attention to become more interested in your subject? Next, understanding your audience can help you deliver the right information that is valuable to them. To get your audience, try to add some personal experience in your topics. The way you talk to them expresses your feelings and knowledge, and it really works.
Everyone is trying to persuade someone and being persuaded. So next time you listen to a speech, watch an advertisement, think of persuasion.
【1】In Paragraph 2, the writer thinks persuasion is an art because________.
A.they both have the same topicB.they both need skills to achieve
C.they both make the audience laughD.they both deliver the right information
【2】Paragraph 3 is mainly about________.
A.the meaning of persuasionB.the methods of persuaders
C.the importance of persuasionD.the characteristics of persuaders
