【題目】Answer the questions(根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答下列問題)

Few people would disagree that email makes our lives easier. But misusing email can cause problems. Answering all those emails and processing all that information can overload(使負(fù)荷過)the brain, causing stress. So says the Future Work Center, a business based in London. This company carries out psychological (心理的) )research on people’s experiences in their workplaces.

Dr Richand Memnon at the center was the lead author of a report on messaging habits. He calls email a double-edged sword: Emails provide a useful way to communicate, but they could add to tension(緊張情緒) in the mind, causing stress. Come rain or shine(無論如何)some office workers are under pressure to read and answer emails all day long. Psychologists care about the pressure that workers bring on themselves. Dr. Mackinnon says that while email can be a valuable, time-saving communication tool, it can also be a source of stress and even anger for many of us. He adds that the stress does not come from the number of emails you get. The problems result from when and how you deal with them.

According to the study, leaving email on all day and never signing off(簽收), along with reading and answering emails early in the day and late at night, are what makes email stressful. Dr. MacKinnon says these bad email habits are linked to higher levels of stress in office workers. The report gives several suggestions on avoiding emails stress.

Use email with a plan. Do not just react to endless email. If you use email application, or app, close it down when you want to be left alone.

If you need to communicate with a co-worker, call or better still walk to their office and talk about it.

Be careful with the “ reply all” option. For example, if you are accepting an invitation to attend training, just write back to those who need to know. Trust me. Other workers on that mailing list will thank you.

And accept the fact that if a matter is urgent, employers will call you about it. Email is certainly not going anywhere, so it is important to take control of your emails and not the other way around.

【題目】Answer the question (根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容回答下列問題):

Jim, the pilot, carefully landed the plane. The three passengers, two men and one woman, were photographers, and they wanted to take photos of tropical flowers and trees. They were caught in a terrible storm and lost.

“Ann and Alex stayed here,” said Jim. “Frank and I will try to find something to eat and drink. We will come back in about an hour ?”

It was difficult to walk in the jungle. After some time, they came upon a beautiful valley. “What fantastic colors,” Frank exclaimed. “I must take some photographs,” he said as he started to climb down into the beautiful valley, Suddenly he slipped and began to fall. “AHHHHH!” he cried.

“Frank, Frank,” called Jim. Are you all right? Are you hurt?”

“ No, I'm fine. I fell on an enormous egg. We can have it for dinner.”

“ Stay there, Frank, I'll ask Ann and Alex to come here. We will get you out.”

The three friends climbed down into the valley. They couldn't find Frank but they found his hat. Near the enormous eggs was a footprint that was one meter square. The friends walked for hours following the trail of footprints until it was almost night.

“WHOOOOSH”. Something flew over them and landed. It was a huge bird. “l(fā)ook! It's a pterodactyl(翼龍)!” The huge bird watched them for a few minutes then flew away.

“ It's almost night and this looks like a good place to sleep.” said Ann, “but I'm afraid of the pterodactyl and the large animal footprints.”

“Animals are usually frightened of fire,” Jim remarked after building and putting a lot of wood on the fire, “this should keep them away and keep us safe during the night.” They continued their search at dawn.

“BOOM, BOOM.” They heard a loud noise in the jungle. They saw a group of strange animals going in the same direction. The friends followed the animals out of the forest. In front of them was a fantastic view. There was a big blue lake and some mountains. Strange animals drank the water. Suddenly the animals were moving and the small animals run quickly into the forest. They were running away from a large animal that was approaching them. “That’s a dinosaur. It’s carnivorous and very dangerous.” said Ann.

1Why did the friends go to take such an adventure?

2Was Frank hurt as he fell into the valley?

3How did they try to keep themselves safe during the night?

4They didn’t stop the search when dawn came, did they?

5What might Frank be doing at the end of the passage? Why do you think so?

6What kind of valley might it be? How do you know that?

【題目】 Waste sorting is a major issue around the world. Different countries are using different methods to sort their trash.

UK: smart bin

A UK company has invented a "smart bin" to help with garbage sorting. People just need to drop their garbage into the bin. A camera and sensors(感應(yīng)器) in the bin can tell what type of garbage it is and correctly sort it. The bin also compresses(壓縮) the waste so it takes up less space.

South Korea: food aside

South Korea is using a method called "Pay For Your Trash "to encourage its people to reduce food waste. When throwing away trash, people have to separate their food waste from their other waste and put it in a bin. The smart bin then weighs the food. People have to pay for their food waste by scanning (掃描) a bar code(條形碼) on the bin. The more they throw away, the more they pay.

Japan: careful sorting

Japan is leading the world in garbage sorting. They sort garbage so carefully that even plastic bottles and their caps(瓶蓋) go into different bins.

Different types of paper products also have their own bins -newspapers,magazines and cartons (紙板箱). There are also factories that make bags, clothes and dolls out of recycled waste.
