Winter is cold and it can be difficult for animals to find food during winter. They get through winter in many ways.

Many animals stay active in winter and adapt to (適應(yīng)) the cold weather. Some animals save food in summer and autumn and eat it in winter. This is what squirrels do. Other animals make changes in their bodies or behavior (行為). To keep warm, some animals grow thicker coats in winter. Some animals eat different kinds of food as the seasons change. The red fox eats fruit and insects in the other three seasons, but eats small rodents (嚙齒類動物) in winter. Other animals change colour. The arctic (北極的) fox is brown in summer. Its coat turns white in winter.
