Millie: Hi Daniel,did you have a good summer?

Daniel: Yes. It was wonderful!I went to a summer camp.

Millie: Me too!Where was your summer camp?

Daniel: It was in the UK. We spent two weeks in the beautiful English countryside. Our camp was in a big field next to a forest and a river. We did lots of great activities. What about you?

Millie: My summer camp was by a beautiful lake in the USA. It was so much fun. We played lots of games and swam in the lake every day. What activities did you do?

Daniel: We did lots of cycling and walking through the countryside. I even learnt how to ride a horse!They also taught us lots of useful skills,like how to put up a tent and how to find the way back home by using just a watch and the sun!What else did you do?

Millie: In the evening,we all sat around the fire and sang songs. Then we read part of Alice in Wonderland before we went to sleep. When it rained,we all slept in tents,but a few nights we slept on the ground under the stars!I love being outside.

Daniel: Me too!The air was so clean and fresh. We all felt very happy. What did you like most about the camp?

Millie: I made lots of new friends!We're going to email each other and keep in touch. Do you think you'll go back next year?

Daniel: Of course!I had a great time. It was a wonderful way to spend the summer holiday.

Summer camps are popular all over the world. Young people go to these camps during their summer holiday. The camps are usually in the countryside. They are often surrounded by forests,lakes,rivers or mountains. The "campers" sleep outside in tents,or together in special houses made of wood.

Summer camps make everyone fit and healthy,with lots of outdoor activities to keep everyone busy. You can go riding or row a boat. You can go jogging,cycling or climbing. After a day of fun and exciting activities,campers eat a nice meal together. In the evening,everybody gets together to play games,sing songs and tell stories,usually around a camp fire.

Campers learn about nature and lots of useful skills too,like how to work well with others. A summer camp is a great place to spend time with your friends,and to make lots of new ones too!

So why not go to a summer camp this summer? You will have a wonderful time!
