閱讀短文,選擇正確答案。
When I was seven years old, my family made me an ant farm. First, we put clean sand in a thin glass box.
Then we waited for the ants to arrive.
After the ants were in the glass farm, they started to make tunnels (地道). I was amazed that each one
knew exactly what to do. Each had its own job.
On the fifth day a tragedy (悲劇) happened. I put my face so close to the glass farm that I knocked it
over. All the tunnels fell down. Although the ants remained alive after their earthquake, one by one they began
to die. I was scared as I watched them give up building their tunnels to carry the bodies to a corner of the farm.
My mother said that the ants were dying of sadness. They simply could not stand that their tunnels were
gone.
Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm. Mom had hoped it would teach me about the
natural world, but it taught me much more.
Over the years, I came to realize the importance of teamwork. Working together, the ants were able to make
an amazing world for themselves. I also learned that they should be admired (欽佩) for their hard work.
But there was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity (逆境) is a natural part
of life, and must be accepted. Unlike the ants, we cannot give up when we are sad. We have to realize that if a
tunnel is gone, we must build another.
Giving up, I say, is not a good choice.

A. They built a farm of ants.

C. Like people, teamwork is very important for the ants.
D. Giving up isn't a good way when we meet trouble.
3. Among the following events, which one happened first?
[     ]
A. All the tunnels fell down.
B. The ants died one by one.
C. The ants got into the glass box.

[     ]

How important is your appearance? Although everyone wants to be good-looking, are beautiful people
always happier people? For example, it must be a problem to be a really beautiful woman, because some
people may be more interested in looking at you than talking to you. They think of you as a picture rather
than a person. There are also some people who think that women who are exceptionally (格外地) pretty
and men who are particularly handsome must be stupid. They believe that only unattractive (無魅力的)
people can be intelligent.
On the other hand, no one wants to be really ugly, and have a face that even your mother doesn't want
to look at; and no one wants to be plain, either-that is, to be neither attractive nor unattractive, and have
a face that is easily forgotten.
Being attractive is like being rich-it can help you find happiness, but it doesn't always make you happy.
So maybe the best thing is not to worry too much about how you look, but simply try to be an interesting
person. For interesting people have interesting faces, and interesting faces are almost always attractive.
根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,判斷正(T),誤(F)。
(     )1. Everyone wants to be attractive.
(     )2. No one likes to talk to a very pretty woman.
(     )3. Some people think that handsome men are uninteresting.
(     )4. A plain face is easily forgotten.
(     )5. Not many interesting people are also attractive.

Encouraging words are very important. Here is a story about it.
A group of frogs were traveling through the woods and two of them fell into a deep hole. When the other
frogs saw how deep the hole was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs
ignored (不理睬) the comments and tried to jump out of the hole with all their strength.
The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs
considered what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued
to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs shouted at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?"
The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him all the time.

閱讀理解。
Happiness is a feeling that lights up your eyes, makes your steps light and makes you want to sing for no
reason. Everyone wants to be happy. But sometimes, a guest comes in without invitation. It's unhappiness.
Don't let it get you down. Send it away!
When you are happy, the world feels like a better place. As the saying goes: When you smile, the world
smiles with you; when you cry, you cry alone. Wearing a smile will make you more charming (迷人的) and
help you to win lots of friends. A good mood always gives you hope, which makes trouble and problems
easier to handle.
No matte how happy you are, it's normal to feel angry, sad or gloomy once in a while. Life is full of ups
and downs. We can't change the way life is, but we can do our best to change a bad situation into a good one.
To help us do this, it's good to know some of the factors (因素) that influence happiness.
One of the biggest factors is social relationships. People who are close to family and friends are happier
than people who don't have those relationships. Talking and sharing is a good way to relax and build
confidence (信心). Knowing someone is there for you will make you braver and more outgoing.
Another factor is work or school. If you enjoy school, even if you have lots of homework or extra classes,
you will still feel that your school life is meaningful and happy. But if you hate school, your negative attitude
may cause you to feel bored and upset that you have to do so much work.
A third factor is your attitude towards life. How do you feel if you fail in an exam? Maybe you think it's
unfair because you always study hard and should get a good mark. You can't stop blaming yourself. Or,
maybe you accept it. You go through the paper carefully, find out why you made stupid mistakes, and tell
yourself, "Take it easy! I'll do better next time!" Your attitude makes a big difference.
1. The writer tells us ____ factors that influence happiness.
[     ]
A. two
B. three
C. four
D. five
2. If you fail in an exam you should ____.
[     ]
A. blame yourself
B. complain about others
C. work harder than before
D. go through the paper again
3. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
[     ]
A. Life is full of ups and downs.
B. When you cry, the world cries with you.
C. It's normal if you always feel sad and gloomy.
D. It's hard to change bad situation into a good one.
4. Which of the following is probably the best title for the passage?
[     ]
A. Make Trouble Easy to Handle.
B. Your School Life is happy.
C. The World Smiles with You.
D. You Make Your Own Happiness.

I have been a news reporter for the past fifteen years. The job has taught me many unforgettable lessons. I
have seen wars, poverty and death, but I have also seen courage (勇氣), hope and happiness.
In India, I saw many homeless children. Some were as young as four year old. They lived in the streets
begging (乞討) or stealing. But then a wonderful lady called Rosa opened a home for them. Within one year she
was looking after two hundred children. She clothed them, fed them and taught them. She gave them hope.
Another time, I was in Turkey after a terrible earthquake. I found an old lady whose house was broke down.
Her son was missing and people said there was no chance that he was still alive. But the lady did not give up
hope. For four days, she moved heavy stones one at a time. She did not stop until she found her son. He was
alive.
Here in China, I was surprised when I met a young boy who had had twenty operations and spent nearly his
whole life in hospital. I thought he would be sad, but when I met him, his smile was so warm and welcoming.
In life, we need models that we can learn from. When my life is difficult, I try to remember the courage and
goodness of these three people.
