9.As one of the most well-known of the fantasy languages invented for science fiction film, television and book, and developed by J.R.R.Tolkien himself,Elvish is made up with several thousand words and different sentence structures.
Constructed languages (人造語言) like Elvish are real languages, madeup of thousands of words created by fantasy writers, linguists and fans, with real language rules. While a
widespread vocabulary is advantageous to a constructed language, there is a key differentiator (區(qū)分者) we can see between just a lot of words and real language:Grammar.
Grammar is what makes constructed languages like Elvish learnable by everyday superfans.Superfans of The Lord of the Rings have built websites and created dictionaries, apps and translators,to teach Elvish. They have also created online clubs where fans can discuss and even create new words based on the already existing vocabulary, and continue to study the language.
So what does it take to be a master of Elvish?
In learning Elvish, there are a couple of grammatical rules similar to those of the English language. For example,in order to make a verb past tense in English, you have to add an-ed,makingwash,washed.Similarly in Elvish,in order to change the word for wash, which is allu,to the past tense then you have to add an-ne to the word.So washed is then translated to allune in past tense.
Nouns in Elvish are different in the way that the noun changes depending on how it's used in a sentence, just like in Latin or Russian. For example, the word head in Elvish is CAS.However,if you duck your head, then the word changes to CARA.When mentioningsomething in your head, then it changes to CASSE.Tolkien's attention to detail in creating the fantasy world used in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, complete with multiple functioning (多功能的) invented languages, has attracted readers and movie viewers these years.
Elvish is only one of the many magical languages developed by J.R.R.Tolkien.Creating language for fantasy has proven to add to viewers and readers experiences.By transplanting their imagination to a new world, fans are able to learn the new language and speak Elvish with each other, much like their favorite characters.

8.Do you have imagination?Do you like to solve problems? Can you think out of the box?If so,you could be the next great inventor."But I'm just a kid,"you might say!Don't worry about a little thing like age. Some of the greatest inventors in the world get their start as kids.
For example,Benjamin Franklin created paddles (槳) for his hands to help him swim faster when he was only 12 years old.His creation led to today's flippers (橡膠蹼)!
You don't have to be an adult,a scientist or a genius (天才) to be an inventor. One thing you need is:curiosity and imagination.Kids are known for looking at things in new and uniqueways.Sometimes their understanding of things leads to great inventions!
Sometimes inventors come up with completely new things that solve a problem. At other times new inventions are only things that are changed or improved. Then they work better or serve a different purpose.
So what should you do if you have a great idea for an invention?Talk to a friend of family member about it.Ask them to help you create a working model of your idea.
Once you have a working model, you should test it.Sometimes after the test, you may find your idea is not as great as you thought. At other times you realize it is a good idea and your working model can help you work out how to make it better.
If you need some ideas, consider these kids and their inventions:
Frank Epperson invented Popsicles (冰棍) when he was 11.One night he mixed soda powder (蘇打粉) and water with a stick. He left it outside all night. The next morning,he found that the stick had frozen (凍結(jié)) inside the drink during the cold night.
Chester Greenwood created earmuffs (耳罩) when he was 15.He found his ears got painfully cold when he was skating. He decided to solve the problem. He found a piece of wire (電線),and his grandma helped him pad (用軟物填塞) the ends.
At the age of 15,Louis Braille invented the system that allowed blind people to read.

D.popular?
53.We can learn from the passage thatD.
A.Benjamin Franklin made paddles for his feet
B.Frank Epperson spent many days making Popsicles?
C.Chester Greenwood created earmuffs with his teacher?
D.Louis Braille's invention helped blind people to read?
54.The writer probably agrees thatD.
A.a(chǎn)ge is very important for inventions

7.Kids Speak UpIn an online poll (投票),TIME FOR KIDS and KidsHealth.org asked kids how they are getting along with their parents. Here's what they told us.
Getting Along and Having Fun
About two out of three kids said they get along very well with their parents.About four out of five told us they have fun with their parents. But that doesn't mean they never disagree. In fact, most kids reported arguing with their parents sometimes.
"It's common to disagree and argue,"says D'Arcy Lyness,a child psychologist (心理學(xué)家)."But it's also important to learn how to do so respectfully."About half of the kids said they are doing that. When they disagree with their parents, they say they have a discussion calmly.
But two out of five kids said arguments always involve shouting at each other.Lyness points out that shouting never helps."Speak up,and let your parents know your ideas,"she advises."But be patient.Don't use a raised, angry voice."
Not surprisingly, three out of four kids admitted (承認(rèn)) to lying at times. Many said they lie to avoid getting in trouble or disappointing their parents.According to Lyness, lying isn't just wrong. It can actually get bad results.Telling the truth builds trust."When parents can trust you, they are more likely to give you more freedom."she says.
A Changing Relationship
Kids ages 12 to 14 not only said they lie more, but they also reported having less fun, feeling less close, and not getting along as well with their parents.
According to Lyness, those feelings are not uncommon. As kids grow up,they have more disagreements or arguments with their parents. But it doesn't have to be that way."Kids and parents get along differently at different times of the journey of life,"she says.As kids grow and change,it is important for ever ybody to adapt (適應(yīng))."There's a dance of ways that you act with others and get along,"she points out."Then there's a change, and it's a different dance."Change is normal, she stresses.
