4.If you meet a British person in the street,it is very likely that he or she will apologize whether it is his or her fault or not.
It seems that Britain is becoming a nation where everyone is saying sorry.Almost each person says sorry about eight times each day-and one in eight  people apologize as many as 20 times a day.
As you may have seen,the British apologize more often than members of other cultures.A research shows that in many cases,people's love of saying sorry in Britain goes a little further than it does for Americans.For example,about 15 British people would say"sorry"will only 10 from the US would do this if they sneezed,if they corrected someone's mistakes or if someone knocked into them.
In the old days,"sorry"was used to express regret and sadness for having done something wrong.But now British people use expression as a way of showing good manners.For example,they might say"sorry"instead of"excuse me","pardon","what"or"whatever".
People in Britain also use sorry when they share the same feeling with others-so they might say"sorry about the rain"
However,British people's use of"sorry"may make things very confusing and difficult for foreigners who are not familiar with their ways.But actully,people in Britain pay much attention to the feelings of others.This is the very reason why they apologize every day.

19.When we got to the hospital,we found Dad still coughed a lot,but his smile was as sure as ever.It was another attack of pneumonia(肺炎).My husband and I stayed with him for the weekend,but we had to go back to our jobs on Monday.Local relatives would help Dad get home from the hospital and look after him.But I wanted to let him know that we also cared about him.even when we weren't with him.
Then I remembered a family tradition when our children were small.Before leaving their grandparents'home after a visit,each child would write a love note to their grandparents.For days,their grandparents would smile as they read these notes of love.
So when I cleaned Dad's kitchen and made the bed for him,I wrote some notes.Some were like this,"Dad,I put the food in the fridge."Some expressed my love,"Dad,I hope you will sleep well in your new bed."Most notes were put downstairs where he would stay for several weeks when he was ill.But I put one note upstairs under his pillow(枕頭),"Dad,if yon have found this note,you must be feeling better.We are so glad!"
"These notes helped improve his health.Several weeks later,in one of our regular phone calls,I asked Dad how he was doing.He said,"Pretty good.I just found your note under my pillow upstairs!

18.The biggest secret about inventing is that anybody can do it!Perhaps this sounds crazy,but it's true.Maybe you have the wrong idea about inventing,so read on to discover the truth.
Wrong idea No.1:An invention has to be something completely new.
Well,inventing means creating something"new",but the idea could come from something that already exists(存在).The Wright brothers,for example,got the idea for building a"flying machine"from watching birds.
Wrong idea No.2:Inventors are born,not made.
There are a lot of factors(因素) that make invention possible.Take Mazart,for example.He was born with a talent for musical composition.But other factors were also important for his creativity.His father was a music teacher,and Mozart practiced for hours every day,from the time he was four years old.Thomas Edison said that being an inventor was"99% hard work and 1% inspiration"!
Very successful creators don't give up when they get something wrong.As one inventor said,"A failure is the right answer to the wrong question."
Wrong idea No.3:Inventors are always old people.
Don't believe that you can't invent something when you are young.Here are two examples of young inventors:Louis Braille went blind when he was a child.When he was fifteen,he invented a system of reading and writing for blind people that is still used in most countries today.
As a young man,George Nissen was watching some artists performing in a show.He watched how they fell into the safety net and then jumped back up again.This gave him an idea,and he invented the trampoline(蹦床).
