A new word is becoming more and more popular on the Internet in China - but no one knows quite what it means. The word "duang" is so new that you can’t even find it in the Chinese dictionary. But it has already spread(傳播) like fire on the Chinese Internet , appearing more than 8,000,000 times on Weibo, where 15,000 users had more than 312,000 discussions. On Baidu, it has been looked up almost 600,000 times. But what does it mean?

"Everyone's duang-ing and I still don't know what it means! Looks like I’d better go back to school now," said Weibo user Fahmida.

Another user asked: "Have you duang-ed today? My mind is full of duang duang duang."

"To duang or not to duang, that is the question," wrote user Beatrice.

"Duang" seems to be imitating (模仿) a sound. It all seems to have started with Hong Kong action star Jackie Chan, who in 2004 appeared in a shampoo ad where he used the sound “duang” to describe his soft and black hair. The word came to people again recently after Chan posted it on his Weibo page. Thousands of users then began to visit Chan's Weibo page with comments (評論).

The word seems to have many different meanings, and there's no perfect Chinese meaning for it, but you could use it to give emphasis (強調(diào)) to the word that follows it. A kid might be "duang cute", for example.

Science has discovered that as each bird flaps (拍打) its wings, it makes uplift for the bird behind it. By flying in a “V” formation (隊形) , the whole group adds at least 71 percent greater flying range (范圍) than if each bird flew on its own.. In autumn, geese head south for the winter, flying in a “V” formation .

People who share a common direction and sense of community can get where they are going more quickly and easily, because they are traveling with the help of one another.

When a goose falls out of formation, it won’t try to go it alone but will quickly get back into formation.

If we have the sense of a goose, we can stay in formation with people who are heading in the same direction as we are. When the head goose gets tired, it goes back in the wing and another goose flies to the point. It is sensible to take turns to lead, whether with people or with geese flying south.

Finally, when a goose gets sick or is wounded (受傷) by a gunshot, two other geese fall down with that goose. They follow it down for protection and to lend help. They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly or until it dies.

If we have the sense of a goose, we can stand by each other like that.

1.If a goose falls out of formation , what will it do?

A.It will try to go alone.

B. It will quickly get back into formation.

C. It will ask others for help.

D. It will find another formation.

What's going to happen in the future? Will robots control our planet? Will computers become smarter than us? Not likely. But here are some things that scientists say are most likely to happen in 10 to 30 years from now, according to the BBC.2-1-c-n-j-y

Digital money

We used to pay with cash for everything we bought. Now when we use a credit card to shop online, money is spent without us seeing it. That means we are already using digital money. Using a card is much easier than searching our pockets for change. It is also safer than carrying a lot of cash.

When ATM cards were first introduced, they were not accepted everywhere. But now it's hard to live without them. It's reported that people in Sweden completely stopped using cash last year, and the US might be next.

Bionic eye

It's no longer something only in a science fiction movie. People who are blind may have a chance to get their sight back—by wearing bionic eyes.

A blind eye can no longer sense light, but a bionic eye can use a camera to “see” the environment and send data to the mind. Now the bionic eye only allows patients to see lights and unclear shapes. A high resolution image could be just a few years away.

Self-driving cars

Unlike a human driver, a self-driving car won't get distracted by phone call, the radio or something outside the window. Sensors and cameras on the car would allow it to stick reduce the number of road accidents. You could even take a nap while the car driver itself.

Many vehicle companies are now planning self?driving cars. “By 2040, driverless vehicles will be widely accepted and possibly be the dominant vehicles on the road,” said Jeffrey Miller, professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, US.

1.What does the writer mainly tell us about digital money?

A. We use digital money to shop online without paying money.

B. Digital money is most likely to be used instead of cash.

C. Using a credit card is easier and safer than cash

D. ATM cards are always popular.

2. Which of the following statements is TRUE?

A. Bionic eyes only appear in the science fiction film.

B. Human drivers won't get distracted by something outside.

C. The blind wearing bionic eyes may see clearly in the future.

D. There will be no road accidents at all if self-driving cars are used.

3.Which of the following can be predicted from the passage?

A. There would be a number of self-driving

B. The blind could use cameras to see things around.

C. We would live a hard life with digital money.

D. Robots would control the world.

4.From the report, we can learn some information about ________.

A. industry and farming B. science and technology

C. culture and art D. traffic and journey

下面文章中有五處(第1-5題)需要添加標題。請從以下選項(A、B、C、D、E和F)中選出符合各段意思的小標題及符合文本大意的總標題。選項中有一項是多余選項。

A. TV makes kids overweight.

B. TV makes kids stupid.

C. Disadvantages of watching TV.

D. TV helps kids get to sleep.

E. TV makes kids violent(暴力的).

F. Wrong ideas of television’s effect on children.

1.______________

The average American child spends three to five hours a day watching TV. In 1961, the average child began to watch television at age three; however, today it is nine months. Yet, most parents think that television has bad influence on their children. For example, in the early 1970s, my parents believed that my bad eyesight was the result of sitting too close to the screen, and they therefore made my stay at least six feet from it. Today, most people have no such worry, but many new ridiculous (荒謬的) sayings have appeared:

2. ______________

Many children watch more educational programs when they are pre-schoolers. When they grow up, they can read more books and have much better ideas to solve difficult problems than other children.

3._______________

The real story is not so simple. Hundreds of studies show that watching violence on TV makes children more aggressive (好斗的). But a study of over 5,000 children also finds that some positive programs make children kinder. The problem is that kids are increasingly watching shows with violence(暴力)instead of those suitable for their age.

4. _______________

An experiment finds that when children watch less television, they do lose extra weight; however, reducing their television time does not make them more active. The real problem lies in snacking (吃零食). A wide spread habit for kids, and junk-food advertisements.

5._______________

The opposite is true. The more television children watch, the more likely they are to have bad sleep habits. Allowing kids to watch television is part of the problem, not the solution.
