Tennis has been called a gentleman’ s sport. At first, tennis was a sport of only kings in France and England. It was played differently from today. In 1874, the first tennis club was opened. There are three main kinds of courts depending on the materials used for the court surface: clay courts, hard courts and grass courts.

The clay court is the most common in Europe. The French Open is played on this kind of court.
