So they created a do-it-yourself ecosystem (生態(tài)系統(tǒng)) named “Local River”. The system lets its owner grow fish and plants inside tanks（缸） in their living rooms.

In the DIY fish and gardening ecosystem, the plants on top of the tank feed on the waste of the fish below. It makes the water clean so the fish can go on living. In this way, the fish and plants in the “Local River”can keep the balanced environment with a little help from the owner. The system is also called “fridge-aquarium (冰箱水族館)” by some people because owners can use the fish and plants as food. History of the Holiday

According to an ancient legend, Buddha（佛祖）asked all the animals to meet him on Lunar New Year. Twelve animals came, and Buddha named a year after each one.

The Year of Good Luck

Buddha announced that people born in each animal’s year would have some of that animal’s personality. If you were born in 1970, 1982, 1994 or 2006, you were born in the year of the Dog. In ancient times, the dog is considered the best symbol for honesty and loyalty（忠誠）. People who were born in these years are believed to be honest, brave and filled with good luck and strength. They are said to get along best with people born in the year of the Tiger, Rat or Horse.

Festivals, Lions and Feasts（筵席）

On Lunar New Year’s Eve, the Chinese celebrate with fireworks and family gatherings. One of the most popular ways to celebrate the holiday is with the lion dance.
