【題目】 How do you feel just when you are going to make a speech in front of people? Usually, your heart beats very fast and you have an unusual feeling in your stomach, don’t you? It’s almost like butterflies(蝴蝶)flying in your stomach. This feeling is expressed in the idiom(習(xí)語(yǔ)) “have butterflies in your stomach”. It means being so nervous that you feel like there are butterflies dancing in your stomach.
Americans often use this idiom to describe how they are feeling when they walk onto a stage (舞臺(tái))and make an important speech or perform in front of people. Actors also say they have butterflies in their stomachs before they see their movies on the theater screen. They are so nervous and excited at the same time that their hearts are beating very fast and there seem to be many butterflies in their stomachs. Before students take a big test, they describe their feelings with this idiom.

【題目】 A makeshift hospital(臨時(shí)醫(yī)院)has been set up by members of the California National Guard in California, in the US.
Feng Bangli, from Wuhan, Hubei, began to have a fever at the end of January and suspected that he had been infected(感染)with the virus. He tried several times to be allowed to enter a hospital but failed. He gave up and stayed at home, taking drugs prescribed (開藥方)by doctors.
At that time, “too many patients were waiting to see doctors at every hospital, and it was not possible for me to get a bed,” said Feng. Days later, with the community staff’s help, Feng tested positive for COVID-19 and was sent to a makeshift hospital for treatment.
“Without such makeshift hospitals, many COVID-19 patients like me may never have found a bed,” said Feng, who recovered(恢復(fù))and was discharged(獲準(zhǔn)離開) from the makeshift hospital in Wuchang district at the end of February after staying there for 12 days.
Like Feng, more than 12,000 COVID-19 patients in Wuhan received treatment and care at 15 makeshift hospitals, which were converted(改造)from exhibition halls and sports stadiums. These hospitals, which mainly received patients with mild symptoms(輕癥), contained one in every four confirmed COVID-19 patients in the city, said Ma Xiaowei, minister of China’s National Health Commission.
“Building makeshift hospitals was a key decision made in the critical(關(guān)鍵的)moment when Wuhan was facing a formidable task of epidemic(疫情)control, and it has played an important role in both prevention and treatment of the disease,” he said.
Makeshift hospitals have greatly reduced pressure(壓力)on designated (指定的)hospitals to receive and treat patients, which made it possible to treat and isolate(隔離)all people in need, said Xu Junmei, vice-president of Wuchang makeshift hospital. “They were the life vessels(生命之舟)during the peak of the epidemic.”

【題目】 When Emma Yang was 7 or 8 years old, her grandmother got Alzheimer's disease(阿爾茨海默病). It made her grandmother lose her memory. She couldn't even know her own family members.Yang, now 14, decided to create an app to help people with this disease.
Her app is called Timeless. It uses facial recognition technology. Alzheimer's patients can use the app to look at photos of their friends and family. The app will tell them who the person is and how they recognize(認(rèn)出)someone in the same room; they can take pictures and the app will try to identify them.
Yang got the idea after seeing how facial recognition is used in different areas, especially in health care. She worked with a tech company to create the facial recognition software that her app used. She learned to code(編碼)for the iPhone for the first time in the process.
The app is still in development. Yang is trying to raise money through crowdfunding(眾籌)so that she can take the next step. Though some may think that the app is too hard for older people to use, Yang is hopeful. “If you introduce it to them right away, it's actually possible for them to use it and it can really benefit their lives,” she said.
