Li Bing was born during the Warring States Period. He was an official from the State of Qin. Around 277 B. C.,Li Bing received an order which controlled the flood in Chengdu.

With that special task in mind,Li Bing did very wide field study in and around Chengdu. Around 256 B. C.,he and his son decided to put their idea to the test. They built Dujiangyan about 56 kilometers ( or 35 miles) west of Chengdu. Their design had three important parts.
