Two young giant-panda twins born in the United States have returned home to China, but are struggling to adapt to the language and food.
The 3-year-old sisters, Mei Lun and Mei Huan, were the first surviving panda twins to be born in the United States, and were returned to China from Zoo Atlanta on Nov. 5. But the pair still understand English better than Chinese, and prefer American biscuits to Chinese bread.
A zoo-keeper said that his main concern is that the pair are so addicted to American biscuits that everything they eat—from bamboos to apples—has to be mixed with biscuits. They even want to snack on (零食) biscuits when drinking water.
The zoo-keeper is trying to wean them off their biscuit habit, gradually replacing the American food with Chinese bread. Mei Huan is adapting, but Mei Lun doesn't want to touch the unfamiliar bread.
Mei Lun is the livelier of the two, often jumping onto the roof and hanging upside down from a rail, but her slightly younger sister Mei Huan is calmer, preferring to sit still, observe her new environment and occasionally snack on bamboo.
A language barrier is also reported. While the pair respond to their own names, and
understand some English phrases such as "come here," they don't understand the Sichuan dialect of Chinese.
The news caused some laughter on Chinese social media, with some users commenting that the pandas would soon get used to Sichuan's famously spicy cuisine.
1.Based on the passage, which statement do you think is right?
A. The panda twins can fit in well in Sichuan.
B. The panda twins are only fond of Sichuan food and dishes.
C. The panda twins have been used to the new environment very quickly.
D. It's hard for the panda twins to get used to the new environment soon.
2.What does the underlined part "wean them off" in the fourth paragraph mean?
A. help them get rid of. B. help them form.
C. help them strengthen. D. help them keep.
3.From the passage we learn that of the two sisters, ________.
A. Mei Huan mainly eats bamboo
B. Mei Lun is living a more active life
C. Mei Huan is not smarter than Mei Lun
D. Mei Lun is as quiet as her younger sister

(Q = Question; A = Answer)
Situation I
Q: If someone sits right next to me in an empty movie theater, is it rude to move?
A: Maybe, but nobody will fault you for it. Chances are that close sitter doesn't realize he disturbs you, so he may miss your annoyance. You undoubtedly aren't the first person he's met who needs enough room. Forgive his bad judgment, move quietly and enjoy the show.
Situation II
Q: If I use the bathroom at a store, do I need to buy something?
A: Consider frequency and urgency. Is this a one-time or an emergency? If so, you don't have to buy anything, but it would be kind if you did. However, if you regularly use the bathroom at this place, then you are a customer, and you should act like one.
Situation III
Q: If someone is talking loudly on the bus, is there a nice way to ask him to keep it down?
A: No. Try other means.1) Stare at him until he gets aware of it and quiets down. 2) Lift your finger in a silence motion(動作) and smile. 3) Put on earphones and ignore him.
Situation IV
Q: If I remember my friend's birthday a day late, should I apologize or just wish her a happy birthday like nothing happened?
A: This is the reason why the word belated was invented. "Happy belated birthday!" is short for: "Well, I know I forgot, but then I remembered. Forgive me and happy birthday."
Situation V
Q: Can I lie about seeing a text because I was too busy or lazy to respond(回復(fù)) to it?
A: Don't lie. Receiving a text does not mean you need to respond to it. Why waste a perfectly good lie when the truth will serve? "Yes," you can say if ever asked, "I saw it." No explanation is needed as to why you don't respond.
1.You will get annoyed in a theater when ________.
A. a person is too active B. a person sits too close to you
C. a person talks too loudly D. a person is too rude to you
2.How will you quiet someone down in a public place?
A. By looking purposefully at him B. By making fun of him continuously
C. By talking to him directly. D. By pointing angrily at him.
3.The underlined word "belated" in Situation IV probably means ________.
A. predicted B. returned C. delayed D. cancelled
4.What is the passage mainly about?
A. Different ways to change others’ manners.
B. Modern ways to mind your manners.
C. Proper manners to offer help to others.
D. Good manners to talk to people.

Cold blesses us all
It's November, the time of year when people often get blessed more. This is not because God likes cold weather, nor because others are fee ling generous with Thanksgiving just around the corner. 1.
Colds and the flu are the most common illnesses people get in autumn and winter as the weather gets colder. They are all caused by viruses, but colds are generally milder—you'll feel annoyed but not as if you want to die.
Teenagers catch average six to ten colds a year, according to statistics from the M inistry of Health, while adults average two to four. More than 200 viruses cause cold symptoms. 2. You can be contagious(傳染的)one day before symptoms develop and for up to five days after becoming sick.
The signature symptom of a cold is a runny nose. The flu will make you burn with fever, ache all over, feel extremely tired and cough intensely. The flu can sometimes lead to more serious diseases, such as pneumonia.
3. A doctor can test you to see whether you have the flu in the first few days of the illness. But some treatments for both are pretty much the same:
● 4. Many doctors consider water a weapon against the common cold. It helps your blood drive off viruses and flood them out.
● Keep warm. You might be cold one minute and hot the next, and wearing several layers is very important.
● Wash your hands frequently. You don't want to make it worse by spreading the flu to everyone else. Also, avoid sharing cups and eating utensil s(餐具) with other people.
5. But if your flu symptoms get worse, go to a hospital or clinic right away.
A. You can pass on the flu before you even know you have it.
B. Drink lots of water.
C. Taking medicine on time is a good way to prevent the illness.
D. "Bless you!" is a common response to sneezes, the symptom of catching a cold or the flu.
E. Get lots of sleep and take it easy.
F. Sometimes, it's hard to tell a cold from the flu based on symptoms alone.
G. Most people who catch the flu get better without having to see their doctor.
