【題目】閱讀下面的短文,請(qǐng)根據(jù)短文后的要求答題。

Rock climbing requires not only physical strength, but also complete mental concentration. So it is not an easy sport. But this may not be true for 20-year-old Sasha diGuilian. This fearless girl who has been dominating the sport ever since she entered this field is just getting warmed up.

The youngster who is also studying for a creative writing degree at Columbia University says that she began climbing even before she could walk. As a baby, she constantly escaped from her bed and led her friends to the nearest rocks or hills. Then at the age of seven she attended brother’s birthday party at a local rock climbing gym and found her gift for it.

Soon after, she joined the local center in her hometown of Alexandria, Virginia and began climbing— first once a week, then twice and soon, almost every day. At the age of nine, she won her first climbing competition by participating in an event that she hadn’t even been aware of, until she went to the gym for her normal climbing routine. Her competitive nature and love for the sport immediately reached the peak and she began training seriously, but this time outside the gym—climbing real mountains.

As a youngster, she dominated the Junior Continental Championships from 2004 to 2010. Then she went on to catch the Pan American Championship and the US National Championship as soon as she was old enough. And in 2011, at just 18 years old, she was crowned(加冕)Female Overall World Champion in Arco, Italy at her first attempt.

Sasha diGuilian is also the youngest woman who has completed the 5.14d graded climb in which climbers must climb rocks that are vertical. The 5.14d graded climb is regarded as the most difficult climb and it is something that even the most experienced climbers are a little afraid to take on, because a small slip could result in a severe injury or even death.

【題目】A new weapon is on the way in the fight against smoking in Europe. Soon when smokers buy cigarettes they might see a shocking photo of a blackened lung or a cancer patient staring back at them from the packet.

Some boys may think of smoking as cool and sexy. Their friends won’t agree when they see their packets of cigarettes lying on the table. The European Union announced on October 22, that it had chosen 42 photos that showed the damage cigarettes could do to the body. It called on member nations to put these pictures on packets to discourage smokers. To catch the attention of teenagers, the special packets warn of long-term medical dangers, like cancer. Short-term effects, like bad skin, are also on the list.

“The true face of smoking is disease, death and horror. That is the message we should send to the young,” said David Byrne, an EU health official. “Hopefully these pictures will shock students out of their love for cigarettes.”

The EU head office hoped the pictures would work better than current written warnings on packs of cigarettes. The warnings included “smoking kills” and “smoking can lead to a slow and painful death.”

So far, Ireland and Belgium have shown interest in the photos. Canada has used similar pictures and warnings on cigarette packs since 2000. The country has recently seen a fall in the number of smokers. According to studies, smoking is the single biggest cause of avoidable death in EU. Every year more than 650,000 smokers die, more than one person a minute.

【1】Why will the “new weapon” hopefully work better according to the passage?

A. Because it is easier to understand.

B. Because it shows both dangers and effects.

C. Because it can be seen by the smokers’ friends.

D. Because it is more powerful to catch attention.

【2】The pictures chosen by the EU are supposed to work on ______.

A. young smokers B. smokers in Ireland and Belgium

C. all smokers D. young smokers’ friends

【3】What can we learn from the passage?

A. Canada has been the first to use the EU’s “weapon”.

B. Many smokers don’t quite believe the written warnings.

C. The new form of warning has already proved to work.

D. Smoking has caused more deaths than anything else in EU.

Patience is of great importance in our daily life. Once I waited a bus to come at a stop. 30 minutes past, but no bus came. Both upset and annoyed, I decided to walk on feet. But no sooner had I left when the bus arrived. I thought if I had waited for one more minute, I would have caught it. If I chose to take a next bus, I would have to wait for other 30 minutes. Only then do I realize my problem. Being impatient will possible waste all the effort that we have put it in. Now whenever I am close to lose my patience, Ill think of this experience.

Boys and girls! I’d like to share my swimming experience with you. My swimming experience is extreme interesting. There was a time when I swim like a rock. This went on till one day when I was fishing with a friend of mine at the pond. I slipped into it. Had my friend not come to my rescue, I would have drowned. Since then, I had come to know the important of learning to swim. I didn’t attend at any training class but learned it all by myself. Strange to say, I have no difficult swimming at all now. Though the way I swim looks awkward (笨拙的), at least it can keep me floating. Think of this, I feel quite satisfying.

Yours,

【題目】When I was a child, I often dreamed of the time when I could leave home and escape to the city. We lived on a farm, in the winter especially, we wear quite out off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to the capital.

However, I soon discovered that one big disadvantage is money. It costs so much to go out, not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer from asthma(哮喘), and the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of traveling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it because of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous.

Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever you tastes in culture or entertainment(娛樂(lè)活動(dòng)). Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally, if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising and, what is more, shops are often only a short walk away.

Is life better then, in the city? Perhaps it is, when you are in your teens(十幾歲) or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back there soon.

【1】What was the writer always thinking about when he was a child?

A. Staying on the farm.

B. Leaving home for the city.

C. Moving to the countryside.

D. Running away from the school.

【2】Which of the following is true about the writer?

A. He lives in the city now.

B. He is in good health.

C. He prefers driving a car.

D. He is very old now.

【3】In the passage, the writer tries to ________.

A. persuade the reader to live in the city

B. describe his life in the countryside

C. show an interest in the outside world

D. express his opinions about way of life

【4】How is the passage mainly developed?

A. By inferring.B. By listing examples.

C. By comparing.D. By discussing.
