Be Happy

    "The days that make us happy make us wise."--John Masefield.
    When I first read this line by England's Poet Laureate(桂冠詩人),I was amazed.What did Masefield
mean?Without thinking about it much,I had always  assumed that the opposite was true.But his calm
assurance(自信) was remarkable.I could not forget it.
   Finally ,I seemed to grasp his meaning and realized that here was a profound (意義深遠(yuǎn)的)observation.The wisdom that happiness makes possible lies in clear understanding,not fogged by anxiety nor dimmed(變暗淡) by despair and boredom,and without the blind spots caused by fear.
   Active happiness-not more satisfaction or contentment-often comes suddenly,like an April shower or
the unfolding of a bud(蓓蕾).Then you discover what kind of wisdom has accompanied it.The grass is
greener;bird songs are sweeter;the shortcomings of your friends are more understandable and more
forgivable.Happiness is like a pair of eyeglasses correcting your spiritual vision.
   The insight of happiness are not limited to what is near around you.Unhappy ,with your thoughts turned in
upon your emotional sadness,your vision is cut short as though by a wall.Happy ,the wall crumbles(倒塌).
     The long vista(展望)is there for the seeing.The ground at your feet,the world about you-people ,
thoughts,emotions,pressures-are now fitted into the larger scene.Everything assumes a fairer proportion
(比例、關(guān)系).
     And here is the beginning of wisdom.

　　The basic flag of the United States is one of the world's oldest national flags．Only the basic flags of Austria，Denmark，Great Britain，the Netherlands，Sweden，and Switzerland are older．

　　By 1817，there were 20 states in the Union，and it became apparent that adding one stripe for each new state would destroy the shape of the flag．As a result，Congress in 1818 restored the original design of 13 stripes and provided that each state was to be represented by one star．In 1912 President William H．Taft made the first official provision for the arrangement of the stars．He ordered that there be six even rows of eight stars each Previously the arrangement of the stars had been left to the flag-maker fancy．

　　The evolution of the Stars and Stripes reflects the growth of the United States．After the admission of Hawaii into the Union in 1959，the flag was officially changed for the 26th time since its creation．

There are many government flown in the United states in addition to the national flag．Among them are the president's and vice-president's flags and those of the federal departments and some federal agencies．Each state in the Union has an official flag．The United States Navy uses special flags for signaling．

“G-h-a-g-r-a G-e-e-t-a B-a-l-i. There she is，”she replied while pointing to her daughter. The crowd standing around also turned to stare. All Ghagra Geeta Bali wanted then was for the earth to open up and swallow her.
