If your recurring(經(jīng)常性的)dreams are worrying you,you can rest assured and needn’t worry.Psychologists say in the vast majority of these cases, this is just the mind’s way of dealing with stress and conflicts, problems and concerns. It’s a good thing.
They call be surprisingly vivid and real,or fragmented and weird. They can be comforting or frightening. Our dreams can tell us a lot about what we are really thinking.Dreams give us an x-ray of our unconsciousness(潛意識).They tell us,particularly when we are at life’s passages or turning points.
Lisa Oppenheim had the same dream whenever she was about to move to a new home or a new city. It’s always just a feeling of needing to stay safe.Experts say disturbing dreams often occur around major life events. For Lisa,it was moving. For others,it can be marriage or divorce, the death of a loved one or pressure at work.
Doctor Siegel has studied the meaning of dream for nearly 30 years. He believes stressful or upsetting dreams can be a sign of what’s buried deep inside our minds.
He said.“Dreams are important to survival. They are crucial to the balance of our psyche(心靈).They help us work out problems that we’re having every single day. They go to the cutting edge of what’s stressful, what’s bothering us and what we’re working out in our lives.Dreams can guide us and in order to find that guidance,to find that deep source of wisdom that’s in our dreams every night,we need to pay attention to our dreams.”
But many dreams are scary and horrible. How can we understand these nightmares? Doctor Siegel says they are reflecting especially intense emotion or unresolved conflict. The stronger the emotion in the dream, whether it’s pleasure or fear, the likelier the dream is to be important.
Knowing what your recurring dreams or nightmares mean can be liberating. Some nightmares can be a sign of serious psychological problems, such as post-dramatic stress disorder. If they are extremely disturbing or violent or the cause of severe anxiety, you should see a professional therapist(治療專家).

Now, we know that if we do not get enough vitamins, we are at risk of developing a number of diseases. As a result, vitamin supplements(補品),though expensive, are popular with people who worry that they are not getting enough vitamins from the foods they eat. But contrary to what many people think, medical experts have found little evidence that most supplements do anything to improve health or protect against disease.
In fact, medical experts warn that taking too many of some vitamins can be harmful. For example, too much vitamin E can cause bleeding. People should discuss what vitamins they take with their doctors, as some vitamins can produce harmful side effects when mixed with medicines.
Experts, however, do say that sometimes vitamins can help prevent disease. People who know they lack a particular vitamin should take vitamin supplements. Some older adults, for example, may not have enough vitamin B-twelve. This is because, as people get older, their body loses its ability to take it from foods. Also, people who spend much time inside may need some extra vitamin D as the skin makes this vitamin from sunlight.
Different vitamins are found in different foods. Vitamin A is found in fish liver oil. It also is in the yellow part of eggs. Sweet potatoes, carrots and other darkly colored fruits and vegetables contain substances that the body can change into vitamin A. Vitamin B-twelve is found in green leafy vegetables and other foods, like fruits. Vitamin K can be found in pork products.
In fact, for most people, a balanced diet can ensure enough of the vitamins our bodies need. So, it is important for us to eat a mixture of foods every day to ensure that we get enough vitamins our bodies need.
【小題1】Vitamin supplements are popular with people because ________.

A.people mistakenly think that they are good for their health
B.they contain more vitamins than the foods people eat
C.food does not provide enough vitamins people need
D.people fear that a lack of vitamins will lead to disease
【小題2】From the passage, we can learn that medical experts advise people _________.
A.never to take any vitamin supplements
B.to depend only on food for their vitamins
C.not to take any vitamins together with medicines
D.to consult doctors before taking vitamin supplements
【小題3】For people who lack Vitamin B-twelve, they can eat more from _______.
A. sweet potatoes   B. pork products   C. green leafy vegetables  D. eggs
42. What would be the best title of the passage?
A. Getting enough vitamins through a balanced diet.
B. Vitamin supplements do harm to our health.
C. Vitamins are important to our health.
D. Lacking vitamins can cause many diseases.

科目:高中英語 來源:2013屆福建省高二下學(xué)期第一次月考英語試題 題型:閱讀理解

Imagine the following scenario(情景): A woman buys her lunch every day from a fast food outlet near her job. After some years, she finds herself 30 pounds overweight, and feeling unhealthy. So what does she do? She chooses to bring a lawsuit against the fast food outlet, claiming that the food served there was the cause of her being overweight and in poor health.

Sounds ridiculous, doesn’t? The only thing more absurd than the story itself is the fact that is not fiction. There are people who have sued(控告)fast food chains for causing their weight problems.

This is an example of one of the ways in which many of us spend enormous amounts of energy trying to deny the undeniable and universal fact that we are all ultimately responsible for our own choices and our own lives.

How much easier would we make it for ourselves if we could accept this fact rather than resist it? But how can we embrace the truth, that we are living the lives we choose to live, that we are enjoying or suffering the consequences(結(jié)果) of our own choices, and that blaming others for our problems and shortcomings is nothing more than a comfortable fantasy?

We must acknowledge the truth of our lives, however unpleasant this may be. If we are overweight, in a bad relationship, in a dead end, we need to accept that this is where we are, at this moment in time.

Imagine that woman decided that she was unhappy with the extra pounds she’d gained after many years of eating fast food on a regular basis. Imagine that this woman took the time to really understand and accept that she and no one else was responsible for her eating choices. Having acknowledged this fact, she then decides to make the changes in her lifestyle to become the healthier, slimmer person she wants to be.

1.What would be the best title for the passage?

A.Be responsible for Our Own Choices.

B.Overcome the Challenges in Our Life.

C.Acknowledge the Truth Rather than Deny It.

D.More than a Comfortable Fantasy.

2. Why is the woman mentioned twice in the passage?

A.To show the right way of dealing with weight problems.

B.To describe a familiar scenario in life.

C.To give support to the author’s viewpoint.

D.To compare the consequences of different choices.

3. What can we learn from the first paragraph?

A.Fast food chains contribute little to people’s overweight problems actually.

B.Fast food outlets are responsible for many people to become overweight.

C.Many people tend to blame others for their own problems.

D.The author himself is a supporter of fast food chains.

4. What should a person do if he is in a bad relationship with his roommates, according to the author?

A.Acknowledge the truth of his life and let it be.

B.Think about what’s wrong with himself and then put it right.

C.Accept that this is where we are and wait for things to improve.

D.Do whatever he likes regardless of what others think and say.
