The Sir Lankan coastline is filled with fishermen who use the sea as their main source of living. Their daily catch would define the life of their own and their families. But it only took a few hours to remove their life-long habitat right in front of their eyes.
Some fishermen had set sail on Christmas night. A very few were lucky enough to return the next morning. But none found any of what they left behind the other night. They were made to lose their families by the very waters that they used to love the most.
The few who made it through the day have been wondering about the meaning of their lives. They had used the sea for decades, but the sea used them for a single day. Is it justice(公平)? Or killing? What would become of them? For whom would they go fishing again? As they struggle with their conflicting feelings, they also come to remind themselves of their struggle for survival.
Where are they now? They didn’t leave the beach, or the sea. They will be back because the sea is their home and the only means of living, so they will continue in their fight for destiny(命運).
But will it be the same? Sadly not. Even though they force themselves to forgive, they can’t forget. They will never be able to get through the idea of a friend turning against them. That fear would always run deep in their hearts. As the fishermen get ready to take on their duties once again, each would take with them a frightful story that reminds them of the day of betrayal(背叛), the day that rewrote their lives.

A. Their family was alive, but their homes were destroyed.
B. Their family was dead and heir homes were destroyed.
C. Their family was dead, but heir homes stood still.
D. Their family came to welcome them.
68. What’s the writer’s wish to the victims ________?
A. They would live happily in the sea.
B. They would come back from the sea and live as usual.
C. They would be stronger to defeat the sea.
D. They would remember the sad story.
69. What does “a friend” in the last paragraph refer to? ________
A. A family member of fishermen.
B. A person that fishermen went fishing with.
C. The fishermen’s country.
D. The sea
70. What is the purpose of writing this text? ________
A. To remember those who lost their lives in the sea.
B. To show the writer’s anger to the sea.
C. To encourage other fishermen to struggle.
D. To tell readers a sad story. .科目:高中英語 來源:廣東省增城中學2010屆高三第三次綜合測試英語試題 題型:051

Every time when parents take them to the amusement park, help them to prepare their birthday parties, applaud for them when they are compedng in the sports meeting, the time they spend with children will become treasure in their memories.
Children need the direction from their parents. There are some wrong behaviors in our society’ such as dishonesty, violence and so on.Children have weak resistance in defending this negative influuence.La this case, parents’ instructions seem to be very important to children’s growth.Parents should sir down smd talk with them about what they should do and should not do.
I do not deny that there are some disadvantages in spending too ranch time with children. Some parents restrict their children, and give them little freedom to develop their interests. Therefore, I emphasize that parents should educate and instruct their children appropriately in their spare time apart flora their busy’ work.

I HEAR America beeping(嘟嘟響).
Beep, says my cellophane when it gets a text message.
Beep, says my microwave oven when my sandwich is warmed up.
Sometimes I long for a natural sound:a bird singing, dog barking, children laughing, anything to drown out the maddening beeps that have become the soundtrack(配樂)to modern life.
My cellophane? It isn’t enough that its ring tone offerings seem to stretch from “annoymg” toextremely “annoying”. It also has to beep whenever someone texts messages me.
The microwave? A bell rings when it's finished heating my food. But is that enough? No.If I don’t rush to it right away, it starts beeping, like an impatient child tugging(用力拉) at my sleeve(袖子).
The smoke detector(探測器) is the worst offender. When its batteries are in need of replacement,it 1ets out a series of chirps. The things that don’t beep buzz(嗡嗡響).And for some reason, beeping and buzzing is beneath them, they clear their throats and perform a symphony. Like my TV, each time I turn it on, it performs an aria(詠嘆調):La di da di dum.Salutions! Here I am! Same thing when I turn it off: La di da di dum.Good bye, kind sir! Until the next time
But at 1east I know where each of these sounds is coming from. That isn’t always the case. For weeks, my wife and I were awoken in the night by a beeping. There,in the stillness, we went through the possible suspects.Could we have a text message? Could it be any of the devices(裝置)able to make a sound? Curling iron, rice cooker, smoke detector, TV set, clock radio...
The only way to tell was to chase the sound down ,but no sooner would we pull on our bathrobes than the beeping would stop. We didn’t hear it every night but often enough that we would climb into bed wondering whether our sleep would be interrupted by that maddening sound, that beep.
Finally, early one morning,my wife found it:in the study, under a desk,a big plastic cube that was plugged into the wall.It was an uninterruptible power supply that we’d inherited(繼承)from my wife’s mother. We’d never known it was capable of speech.
I think it just wanted someone to talk to.
14.What does the writer truly mean by saying“I hear America beeping”?
A.American people like devices that beep.
B.Americans are crazy about sending text messages.
C.In modern society people are dependant on technology.
D.The soundtrack to modern life is no longer natural.
15.Why couldn’t the author and his wife find the source of the noise in their house in the beginning?
A.There were too many devices for them to check.
B.They were unwilling to get up at midnight.
C.They had never known that thing could beep too.
D.The noise didn’t come every day.
16.After reading this passage,we can probably tell the author .
A.enjoys being surrounded by beeps B.has a touch of humor in his writing
C.tries to avoid using anything that beeps
D.understands the beeping is designed to be user-friendly
