18.Shirley Temple Black,who died on February 10at age 85,was not just a child star.She was that child star-the sweet little girl whose movies helped brighten some of the darkest days the US has known during the Great Depression.
It is hard today to imagine the hit that was Shirley-"America's Little Darling".She sang and danced her way to the top of the box office in such films as Bright Eyes,Curly Top and Heidi.By 1940,she had appeared in 43films.Temple teamed with Bill"Bojangles"Robinson in four movies,and their tap dance on a staircase in The Little Colonel is still a legendary (傳奇性的) film moment.
She even has an Oscar statuette.Temple received a special honorary Academy Award in 1934for her outstanding contributions as a child film star.She was six years old!In the 1930s,her name on a movie subtitle assured a packed house.She inspired dolls,dresses,dishes-even a drink (alcohol-free,of course).
US President Franklin D.Roosevelt once famously said that"as long as our country has Shirley Temple,we will be all right".
Unlike so many of today's child stars,Temple didn't end up with her name splashed across (四處沾染) the headlines for bad behavior.Instead of getting her face on front pages or struggling with drugs and alcohol,Temple went on to a second career in diplomacy (外交),including presidential appointments as ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.
By most accounts,she surprised a lot of skeptics with her grace,knowledge and eagerness to serve.In fact,her career in public service (20years) was longer than her career in movies (19years).
The role she treasured most,however,was as wife,mother,grandmother and great-grandmother.
The world has lost a treasured Hollywood legend.But her movies will allow that little energetic lady to continue charming audiences for a very long time.

15.Parents should ban electronic media during mealtimes and after bedtime as part of a comprehensive"family media use plan",according to new recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics."Excessive media use is associated with obesity, poor school performance, aggression and lack of sleep,"said Marjorie Hogan,co-author of the new policy.

Use of mobile devices by young kids has soared(飆升).A new report from Common Sense Media,a child-advocacy group based in San Francisco, found that 17% of children aged 8 and younger use mobile devices daily,up from 8% in 2011.

10.Alan,17,was randomly shot and killed by a gang member.His father,Keith,and his mother,Donna,were filled with anger as they followed the all-consuming ongoing investigation into the killing.A close couple,friends of Keith and Donna's,dropped in one evening and said to them,"You have to accept this loss.Your son is gone and none of this is going to bring him back.All you need now is acceptance."Keith got angry with his friend and asked,"What part of Alan's death don't you think I accept?Believe me,I hate to be in so much pain."
Acceptance is not about liking a situation.It is about acknowledging all that has been lost and learning to live with that loss.It would be too soon for Keith to be able to accept the situation.He can acknowledge the reality of the loss,but it would be unrealistic to think he should have found some peace with it by then.
The gang member who killed Alan was sentenced to life in prison,and Keith and Donna went back to their own lives.But Keith actually had a new loss to deal with,an emptiness,which made the absence of his son's loss even louder.
It is important for people to understand that gradually,in your own time,you can begin to find some peace with what has happened.In situations such as murder,it is vital to understand we have a legal system,not necessarily a justice system.Acceptance is a process that we experience,not a final stage with an end point.
No one else could know how much acceptance Keith was capable of or how time would affect his process.After five years,Keith felt he had found as much acceptance as was possible.Then he was notified that the shooter was up for his parole ( 假釋 ) hearing.Keith was once again filled with anger.The proceedings were brief and parole was denied.Keith was struck by how quickly it happened and by the tears of the shooter's father.For the first time,Keith realized that there were victims on both ends of the gun.
Keith walked over and shook his hand.At that moment,something happened:Keith's anger was replaced by a curiosity.He wanted to know what this other father's life was like and what led him to the same place.Over the next few years,the two men worked together helping gang members stop the violence and find their place in the world.
Keith's acceptance was a journey deeper than ever expected.And it happened over many years,not many months or days.Not everyone will or can fully embrace those who have hurt us,as Keith did,but there is always a struggle that leads us to our own personal and unique acceptance.
61.Alan's parents were very angry at their son's death becauseA.
A.he was innocently killed

C.their friends brought the truth back to them

A.Acknowledging the reality.
B.Seeking justice for what has been lost.
C.Embracing the pain that has made you hurt.
D.Finding some peace with what has happened.
63.What personality can we infer from the passage about Keith?A
A.Tolerant.
