Would you believe that the tallest bridge in France reaches higher than the Eiffel Tower? Each of the projects mentioned here has set at least one world record for its height, scale or ingenuity(獨(dú)創(chuàng)性).Here are four amazing engineering wonders of the modern world.

Venice,Italy:The Venice Tide Barrier Project will be the largest flood prevention project in the world. The project has been debated in one form or another for over 40 years as a way to protect this historical city-on-the-water for future generations. With Venice slowly sinking, and the water around it slowly rising, and floods always a fear,Italians have known for a long time that something needs to be done. Finally, the Prime Minister of Italy approved the second phase of the plan, including 80 hinged barriers(用鉸鏈連接的壁壘),each approximately 6,500 square feet.

Millau,France:The Millau Viaduct(米洛高架橋)is the highest bridge in the world. At 1,125 feet high(slightly taller than the Eiffel Tower,1,063 feet)and over 8,000 feet long,it sometimes sits above the cloud line. The engineered wonder of the bridge itself is nearly as amazing as the view of the valley below.

Zhangjiajie,China:The Bailong Elevator is the world’s largest outside elevator. At about 1,070 feet high, this elevator looms(隱約出現(xiàn)) high midway up a cliff overlooking a valley far below. Moreover, the elevator is mostly made of glass, affording passengers a dizzying view to the depths below. There is some concern, however, about the elevator’s long-term impact on the surrounding natural environment.

Norway to Britain:The Langeled Pipeline extends(延伸)from Nyhamna,Norway,to Easington in the UK.It is about 1,200 km long and before the completion of the Nord Stream pipeline,it was the longest underwater gas pipeline in the world.Gas is exported(出口)from the Ormen Lange field, situated at a depth of 1,000 metres and located 100 km northwest of the Norwegian coast to Nyhamna. From there the Langeled Pipeline runs to Easington in the UK via the Sleipner Riser Platform in the North Sea.It will eventually supply 20% of Britain’s gas needs.

【題目】The Horn of Plenty is one of the largest natural health food stores within the Greater Hamilton area. We are big supporters of buying locally and we are here to tell you why it is so important for your family, the community and the environment. The concept of buying locally is simple: buy food produced, grown, or raised as close to your home as possible. Not only will your food be fresher and tastier, but you are helping protect the environment and are supporting businesses within your community and reducing pollution.

Better for the environmentSustainabilityand global warming are such hot topics at the moment, and many people want to do their bit to help support a healthier environment. Small action carried out by many people can make a big difference. Most materials in an average North American meal have traveled about 1,500 miles to get from farm to plate. To cut out a big part of this travel would greatly reduce not only pollution from transportation and refrigeration but also customers’ expenses as well.

Taste and nutritional content Locally-grown fruits and vegetables are usually sold within 24 hours of being harvested. Because they are picked at the height of ripeness(成熟) and travel only a short distance to the market, their freshness, nutrition, and flavor are kept. Produce trucked in from far away may lose both taste and nutritional content. Community and home valueswhen you buy direct from a farmer or buy locally-grown foods, you are engaged in a time-honored tradition between a grower and an eater. You also help keep dollars within your community.

A. you can see how fruits and vegetables grow

B. you will contribute to protecting the environment

C. you will become much healthier and prettier

D. you are making money from your community

【題目】Selena Gomez and I are scheduled to meet at a lowkey coffee shop in Encino. Not wanting to keep the superstar waiting, I arrived at nine, 20 minutes early. As I was catching up on emails, Selena quietly scooted into the seat next to me. No bodyguard. Not even a drop of makeup. She was ten minutes early and no one else in the restaurant looked up so much. Selena was wearing Bebe shorts. She had a baby face and ordered a hot chocolate.

After making small talk about what she wore for the shoot, she dived into the subject of her career. Selena declared 2012 the year of movies. I want to create a whole different person when it comes to acting.”

Selena has been working fulltime since she was seven years old and scored a role on Barney&Friends. In 2007, when she was offered the lead in Wizards of /span>Waverly Place, Selena, her mother, and her stepfather uprooted from Texas to LA , where they are settling now.

It is also the right side of our brain which daydreams.Leonardo da Vinci was the great painter and sculptor. He was also an architect, a scientist and an inventor!2When he invented machines he used both his imaginative ability and his analytical ability.3Albert Einstein enjoyed art, playing the violin and sailing. Indeed, Einstein said his scientific discoveries grew from his imagination rather than from analysis, reason and language. He said that written and spoken words were not important in his thinking. The story goes that Einstein was daydreaming one summer's day while sitting on a hill. He imagined that he was riding on sunbeams to the far distance of the universe. Then he found that he had returned to the sun. So he realized that the universe must curve(彎曲).4He then used the left side of his brain to apply analysis, number and reason. And finally he used language to explain it.Traditional education in schools encourages us to use the left side of our brains. Language, number, analysis and reason are given more importance in our schools than imagination and daydreaming. Why don' t we give more value to visual thinking? Why jump on one foot if we have two perfectly good legs !5We need to use our imagination to think of solutions to problems and to enjoy emotional and artistic experiences. And we need to be logical able to analyze and organize in order to survive day by day.

A. We benefit by thinking creatively.

D. Great scientists and great artists are similar.

E. He was considered crazy for his strange ideas.

F. He used both sides of his brain within each activity.
