One very cold and rainy night in the winter of 2012, my husband and I were in a fast food restaurant. We were about to begin our meal    a man walked in. He was completely       from the rain and went into the men's room.

A.同時;B. 當。。。時候;C. 在。。。之后;D. 由于。根據(jù)語境可知此處考查固定句型:be doing …when “正在做某事這時……”,while“當……
A. 悲傷;B. That man must have had nothing to eat in a long time.和 he didn't have any money for food可以判斷他是餓著肚子在那里避雨。
A. 根據(jù)動詞搭配可知只有hand 可以構成hand sth to sb“遞給某人某物”,take指“拿走,帶走”不符合語境,答案選A。
A. 叫喊;B.
A. 接受;B. 表達;C. 拒絕;D. 期望。根據(jù)下文內(nèi)容After he 48 the food, 可知他在作者的堅持下接受了幫助,所以答案選A。
A. She noticed that you were

Three men were travelling across the desert when their car broke down. There were no other traffics, so their only hope was to walk.
Before they set off, they looked around in the car for useful things to take with them. One of the men took a bottle of whisky. Another took an umbrella. The third unscrewed a door from the car and carried that.

The morning had been a disaster. My tooth was aching, and I’d been in an argument with a friend. Her words still hurt:“The trouble with you is that you won’t put yourself in my place. Can’t you see things from my point of view?” I shook my head stubbornly—and felt the ache in my tooth. I’d thought I could hold out till my dentist came back from holiday, but the pain was really unbearable. I started calling the dentists in the phone book, but no one could see me immediately. Finally, at about lunch time, I got lucky.
“If you come by right now,” the receptionist said, “the dentist will fit you in.”
I took my purse and keys and rushed to my car. But suddenly I began to doubt about the dentist. What kind of dentist would be so eager to treat someone at such short notice? Why wasn’t he as busy as the others?
In the dentist’s office, I sat down and looked around. I saw nothing but the bare walls and I became even more worried. The assistant noticed my nervousness and placed her warm hand over my ice-cold one.
When I told her my fears, she laughed and said, “Don’t worry. The dentist is very good. ”
“How long do I have to wait for him?” I asked impatiently.
“Come on, he is coming. Just lie down and relax. And enjoy the artwork,” the assistant said.
“The artwork?” I was puzzled.
The chair went back, suddenly I smiled. There was a beautiful picture, right where I could enjoy it: on the ceiling. How considerate the dentist was! At that moment, I began to understand what my friend meant by her words.

I arrived late one night on a business trip, so I decided to have dinner in the hotel I stayed in. As I was finishing my meal, an elderly couple came in. They were holding hands and had lovely smiles on their faces. They sat three tables from me. I was amazed at the love they showed for each other. It stuck me because it was shortly after ending a 20-year marriage and I still had pain in my heart.
My waiter was also their waiter. As I paid my bill, I asked what their bill was. He told me, and I gave him $40 to pay their bill. He asked if I knew them and I told him “No, I just wanted to repay them for the love that they were showing to each other,” and then I left.
The next day I entered the restaurant again. After I had been seated, the waiter who served me the night before told me that the strangest thing happened after I left the restaurant. When the elderly couple went to pay for their meal, they were told that it had been paid. The waiter just told them what I said. They were amazed. They looked around, asked for the bill of two young couples who were seated together, paid their bill and left.
I smiled and ordered my meal. About 45 minutes later, I finished my meal and was about to head out, but my waiter was nowhere to be found. I explained to the hostess that I needed to pay for my meal and hurry to the airport. She smiled and explained that I would not have to pay, because she felt she should pay for my bill because of the joy brought to the faces of the elderly couple and the amazement of the young couples.
When I told her that they didn’t have to do that, she said with a smile “Love creates Love.”

Proudly reading my words, I glanced around the room, only to find my classmates with big smiles on their faces and tears in their eyes. Confused, I glanced toward my stone-faced teacher. Having no choice, I slowly raised the report I had worked on, hoping to hide myself. “What could be causing everyone to act this way?”
Quickly, I flashed back to the day Miss Lancelot gave me the task. This was the first real task I received in my new school. It seemed simple: go on the Internet and find information about a man named George Washington. Since my idea of history came from an ancient teacher in my home country, I had never heard of that name before. As I searched for the name of this fellow, it became obvious that there were two people with the same name who looked completely different! One invented hundreds of uses for peanuts, while the other led army across America. I stared at the screen, wondering which one my teacher meant. I called my grandfather for a golden piece of advice: flip (擲) a coin. Heads—the commander, and tails—the peanuts guy. Ah! Tails, my report would be about the great man who invented peanut butter, George Washington Carver.Weeks later, standing before this unfriendly mass, I was totally lost. Oh well, I lowered the paper and sat down at my desk, burning to find out what I had done wrong. As a classmate began his report, it all became clear, “My report is on George Washington, the man who started the American Revolution.” The whole world became quiet! How could I know that she meant that George Washington?
Obviously, my grade was terrible. Heartbroken but fearless, I decided to turn this around. I talked to Miss Lancelot, but she insisted: No re-dos; no new grade. I felt that the punishment was not justified, and I believed I deserved a second chance. At last, I worked very hard for the rest of the school year.
Ten months later, that chance came as I found myself sitting in the headmaster’s office with my grandfather, now having a completely different conversation. I smiled and flashed back to the embarrassing moment at the beginning of the year as the headmaster informed me of my chance to skip the sixth grade. Justice is sweet!
小題1: What did the author’s classmates think about his report?
A.Complex.B.Funny.C.Boring.D.Puzzling.
小題2: Why was the author confused about the task?
A.He was unfamiliar with American history.
B.He followed the advice and flipped a coin.

小題3:In the end, the author turned things around _______.
A.by redoing his task
B.through his own efforts
C.with the help of his grandfather
D.under the guidance of his headmaster

You have to log on to your school's online system to check your grades, but you find the system is kind of inconvenient. What do you do?
When Daniel Brooks was a senior at Pioneer High School in the US, he came up with a Silicon Valley-style solution; he developed an iPhone app(application, 應用程序)I C Connector.
When he tried out his school's new Web-based student information system earlier this year, he immediately noticed some shortcomings. He could no longer view his current grades for all his classes at once.Checking several classes required several clicks-which for a teenager is so much work.To save himself all this trouble, Brooks developed the app and sold it on the Apple app store. Now it has 2,300 users who have downloaded it across the US.
"It ended up on every iPhone and iPad and portable device that any student and teacher had on campus," said Scott Peterson, the campus tech support worker at Pioneer High.
Brooks said he didn't create the app to get rich - it is free."A student is not going to want to pay 99 cents," Brooks said."They just want to see their grades more easily."
However, in the months that followed, Brooks experienced highs and lows. His app is now so successful that users want more, in particular, his teachers have started pushing him to develop a version for them. However, the company Infinite Campus, which developed the information system, has been less positive.
