We drove to the airport to meet an expert from Germany, about 50 years old, his hair ________.

A.was completely greyB.be completely grey
C.to be completely greyD.completely grey

D

(C)
After my husband died suddenly from a heart attack,my world crashed around me.My six children were all under 10,and I was burdened with the responsibilities of earning a living, and   caring for the children.I was fortunate to find a wonderful housekeeper to care for the children during the week, but from Friday nights to Monday mornings, the children and t were alone.
One Friday evening I came home from work to find a big pretty German shepherd off our doorstep. This dog seemed to intend to enter the house. The children liked “German” immediately and begged me to let him in.I agreed to let him sleep in the basement. That night I slept peacefully for the first time in many weeks.
The following morning we made phone calls and checked lost-and-found ads for German’s owner, but with no results.
On Sunday I had planned to take the children on a picnic.Since I thought it best to leave German behind in case his owner came by,we drove off without him. When we stopped to get gas, we were amazed to see German racing to the gas station after us.No way was he going to be left behind.
Monday morning I let him out for a run.He didn’t come back and we were all disappointed.
We were convinced that we would never see him again. We were wrong. The next Friday evening,
German was back on other doorstep.Again he stayed until Monday morning, when our housekeeper arrived.
This pattern repeated itself every.weekend for almost 10 months. We grew more and more fond of German. We took comfort in his strong, warm presence, and we felt safe with him near us.
As German became part of the family,he considered it his duty to check every bedroom to be sure each child was cozy in bed.
Each week, between German’s visits,I grew a little stronger,a little braver and mole able to cope;every weekend we were no long alone and enjoyed his company. Then one Monday morning we patted him on his head and let him out for what turned out to be the Iast time.We never saw German again.

第二部分:閱讀理解 (共20小題;每小題2分,滿分40分)
第一節(jié):閱讀下列文章,根據(jù)文章內容,從文后所給的A、B、C、D四個選項中選出最佳答案。
Last year my wife and I spent a most interesting month in Turkey. Before we left, we were reminded of the difficulties of driving in Turkey. We certainly did not find this to be the case and, except for a few places in faraway mountain areas, the roads were wide, and well-paved (鋪). We drove for 12 days along the Western Coast of Turkey and had no problems at all. We found the Turkish drivers most polite and well educated. We also found that eating lunch in the smaller towns was difficult so we picnicked almost every day.
The following day after our arrival was Turkey’s Children’s Day, started by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Ataturk loved children and he often said, “Children are a new beginning of tomorrow”. He even dedicated the day 23rd of April to the children. Today, it is celebrated as Children’s Day as well as the date when the Republic of Turkey was founded.
On that day certain children are picked to take over the places of the government, and a lucky kid will be the president of Turkey for a whole day. He can decide what’s going to happen and whether or not he is going to have the president sit next to him. There are a very large number of things you can do but some shops aren’t open because they are celebrating as well.
All in all, it was a more enjoyable trip. I would recommend a trip to Turkey to anyone with an adventurous spirit!

The morning for our snowmobiling (雪上汽車) adventure finally arrived, and we set off on the hour-and-a-half drive to the resort. A fresh powder had fallen the night before, and everything was frosted white. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect conditions. The sun sparkled (閃光) on the snow, and the trails (路線) were completely empty – not another person or snowmobile in sight. We were thrilled at being the only people for miles around … until we got going.
As we drove through the deserted wilderness (荒野), my excitement became stone-cold fear. I had no idea what I was afraid of, or why I was afraid, but suddenly every turn, every hill, every steep (陡峭的) side of the mountain scared me to death. I kept picturing us crashing headlong into a tree or falling off the side of a drop. ?
But after lunch things changed. We were the only humans who had been there since the snowfall. The peaceful place, the incredible beauty of the landscape, and the almost sacred experience of sharing a mountain with the wildlife touched my very core (核心).  My mind cleared and quieted and my muscles relaxed.
As we drove the last leg of the run, I began to resent being afraid to drive. Deep down, I wanted to be in charge of the thing that scared me. It made me angry that fear was keeping me from something I really wanted to do. The day was coming to an end, and the resort was only a few miles away. I knew that if I didn’t take my chance now, I would regret it.
I signaled for my husband to pull over. I wanted to drive, although my heart pounded (重擊). I stared off slowly and felt the wind in my face. I smiled and sped up a little. I let out a “Yee-haw!” and went full out, taking my husband on the best ride of the day.
We ended the day on that breathless, carefree, and I felt proud of myself – proud of overcoming my fear.

Each spring brings a new wildflower blooming in the fields along the highway I travel daily to work. There is one particular blue flower that has always caught my eye. I've noticed that it blooms only in the morning hours. The afternoon sun is too warm for it. Every day each year for about two weeks, I see those beautiful flowers.
This spring, I started a wildflower garden in my yard. I can look out of the kitchen window while doing the dishes and see the flowers. I've often thought that those lovely blue flowers from the fields would look great in that bed alongside other wildflowers.
Every day I drove past the flowers, thinking, "I'll stop on my way home and dig them." "Gee, I don't want to get my good clothes dirty…" Whatever the reason, I never stopped to dig them. My husband even gave me a tool one year for that expressed purpose.
One day on my way home from work, I was saddened to see that the highway department had cleared up the fields and the pretty blue flowers were gone. I thought to myself, "Way to go, you waited too long. You should have done it when you first saw them blooming this spring. "
A week ago we were shocked and saddened to learn that my oldest sister-in-law has a cancer. She is 20 years older than my husband and unfortunately, because of age and distance, we haven't been as close as we all would have liked.
I couldn't help but see the connection between the pretty blue flowers and the relationship between my husband's sister and us. I do believe that God has given us some time left to plant some wonderful memories that will bloom every year for us.
And yes, if I see the blue flowers again, I'm sure I'll stop and transplant them to my wildflower garden.
【小題1】 How long might the blue flower bloom in spring?

A.The whole day.B.The whole season.
C.About one week.D.About two weeks
【小題2】 Where did the writer want to transplant the flowers?
A.In the gardenB.Along the highway.

【小題3】 Which of the following is NOT true about the writer's sister-in-law?
A.She is seriously ill.
B.She is twenty years old.
C.She lives far away from the writer.
D.She is not in close touch with the writer.
【小題4】 What does the writer want to tell us?
A.Refresh our wonderful moments every year.
B.Visit our relatives only after they get ill.
C.Value now and don't lose chances.
D.Plant flowers and don't enjoy them in the field.
