12.Scientists found sea levels are rising faster today than anytime over the past 3,000 years.The sea level researchers gathered information going back 28 centuries, and their findings were released Monday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Robert Kopp,from Rutgers University in New Jersey,is the paper's lead author.He said the 20th century sea rise was"extraordinary"when compared to the past 3,000 years.And,Kopp said,"The rise over the last two decades has been even faster."
Scientists from NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric administration reported that temperatures at the North Pole hit record highs in January.This news comes after 2015 has been the hottest year ever recorded.The earlier estimates show that temperatures around the Earth have risen more than a half degree Celsius since 1880.Scientists say that most of that rise is because of emissions,or gases,released into the air by machines that humans have built.
When temperatures rise,so do sea levels.That is because snow and ice melt,or break off from glaciers.They flow into the sea.The increased water makes the sea levels rise.
And it is not going to get better.The water is going to rise,said Stefan Rahmstorf,the study's co-author."I think we can definitely be confident that sea level rise is going to continue to accelerate if there's further warming."he told The New York Times.He said"inevitably there will be"more warming,which means it will continue to rise.
One question is how much will the sea levels rise?And for how long?The researchers said the Earth's sea level could rise more than a meter by the year 2100.

32.Scientists'findings about sea level rise are based on information throughB.
A.20 centuries  B.28 centuries  C.3,000 years  D.two decades
33.What can we learn from paragraph 3?D

D.Human activities should be responsible for most of the global temperature rise.
34.Why do sea levels rise according to the passage?C
A.Water expands when heated.
B.When temperatures rise,it rains a lot.
C.Snow and ice melt and its water flows into seas.

35.What does this article mainly talk about?B
A.The consequences of sea levels'rise.

解答 32.D 細節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章內(nèi)容The sea level researchers gathered information going back 28 centuries, and their findings were released Monday by the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.由此可知,科學(xué)家對海平面上升的發(fā)現(xiàn)是基于28 centuries,結(jié)合選項,故選D
33.B 細節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章內(nèi)容Scientists say that most of that rise is because of emissions,or gases, released into the air by machines that humans have built.科學(xué)家說,溫度的上升、海平面的上升主要是人類使用的機器排放有害氣體,并釋放到空氣中,結(jié)合選項,故選B
34.C 細節(jié)題.根據(jù)文章內(nèi)容When temperatures rise,so do sea levels. That is because snow and ice melt,or break off from glaciers. They flow into the sea.The increased water makes the sea levels rise.當(dāng)溫度上升,海平面也上升.那是因為雪和冰都化了,然后流入到海洋里,迅速聚集的水使得海平面上升,結(jié)合選項,故選C

7.Greyhound racing is the sixth most popular spectator sport in the United States.Over the last decade,a growing number of racers have been adopted to spend their retirement as household pets,once their racing careers are over.
Many people hesitate to adopt a retired racing greyhound because they think only very old dogs are available.Actually,even champion racers only work until they are about three-and-a-half years old.Because greyhounds usually live to be 12 to 15 years old, their retirement is much longer than their racing careers.
People worry that a greyhound will be more nervous and active than other dogs and will need a large space to run.These are false impressions.Greyhounds have naturally sweet,mild characters,and while they love to run,they are sprinters rather than distance runners and are sufficiently exercised with a few daily jumps around a fenced-in backyard.
Greyhounds tend to be a little more sensitive in their stomachs and sometimes come to rescue organizations with dental problems.The dogs may also get separation anxiety,but because they are used to being kept in a cage,the results of anxiety can be contained.They're so gentle.If you want a low-energy dog,they're the right dog.
Greyhounds do not make good watchdogs,but they are very good with children,get along well with other dogs(and usually cats as well),and are affectionate and loyal.They are intelligent,well-behaved dogs,usually housebroken in only a few days.A retired racing greyhound is a wonderful pet for almost anyone.

32.How long is a greyhound's racing career normally?D
A.12to 15years.
B.3.5to 12years.
C.longer than 15.
D.shorter than 3.5.
33.Which is needed for raising a greyhound?C
A.Enough room to run.
B.A large cage to keep it.
C.Good care of its stomachs.
D.More exercise than other dog.
34.Which best describes a character of a greyhound?A
A.It is easy-going.
B.It is terribly anxious.
C.It is always anxious.
D.It is physically active.
35.What can be the best title for the text?C
A.Help Homeless Racing Greyhounds
B.Ways of Training Racing Greyhounds
C.Adopt Retired Racing Greyhounds as Pets
D.How to Get Along with Racing Greyhounds.

17.Being physically active three times a week reduces the odds of being depressed by about 16%,according to new UCL research carried out as part of the Public Health Research Center.
The study,published in JAMA Psychiatry,found a two-way relationship between depression and physical activity.People who increased their weekly activity reported fewer depressive symptoms but those with more depressive symptoms were less active,particularly at younger ages.
Researchers followed 11,135 people born in 1958 up until the age of 50,recording depressive symptoms and levels of physical activity at regular intervals in adulthood.They found that each additional activity period per week reduced odds of depression by 6%.In England 19% of men and 26% of women are currently classed as"inactive",and this study suggests that activity could significantly improve their mental as well as physical health.
"Assuming the association is causal,physical activity has a protective effect against depression.If an adult between their twenties and forties who isn't physically active became active 3times per week,they would reduce their risks of depression by about 16%."says Dr.Snehal of the UCL Institute of Child Health,lead author of the study.
Professor Mark,Director of the Public Health Research Center,said,"Many people are already aware of the benefits of physical activity on their general health,but now we are seeing more evidence that suggest it also has a positive effect on a person's mental well-being.The latest research highlights just how important it is to ensure that people are working and living in environments that allow them to be both physically active and mentally healthy."

25.What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?B
A.To tell us a fun story about how to protect us against depression.
B.To introduce a research on the link between activity and depression.
C.To persuade readers to increase their weekly activity.
D.To describe the disadvantages of physical activity.
26.According to the second paragraph,if people increase their weekly activity,A.
A.their depressive symptoms will be fewer
B.their depressive symptoms will be more
C.they will become much younger
D.they will become more depressive
27.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?D
A.Dr.Snehal thinks it important to be both physically and mentally healthy.
B.The research shows men are more active in physical activities than women.
C.Adults who insist on physical activity will reduce depression completely.
D.Increasing physical activities can free people from depression in a way.
28.The author shows his view mainly byB.
A.doing research
B.comparing and contrasting
C.trying on himself
