Dear College Dean
It is my understanding that this college has received a large donation to be used to enhance (improve) the quality of life for students: expand the bookstore or add computers to the computer lab. It is the tradition of this school to promote education and to be at the vanguard of new technology. That is why I strongly argue in favor of the addition of more computers to the computer lab.
Although expanding the campus bookstore to include CDs, gifts, and a snack bar will give a nicer look to the college, we have to think about a greater goal and a more practical way to enhance the quality of life for students. What do we want for our students and our college? Do we want our college to be known as a place with a great bookstore where you can find CDs and gifts, or as a place where the students can explore and research in their field using the best tools provided by technology? In addition, there are already several snack bars on campus, and there are music stores nearby, so students do not depend on the college bookstore for these things.
We live in a highly technological world and computers play an increasingly important role in how we live. As a learning institution, this college has the responsibility to offer its students the best technology to help them prepare for their future. Many students will be expected to be familiar with the latest software and other tools when they go on to work or to graduate school.
While they are in college, students find they are expected to use computers. Many professors expect students to use computers to do homework or to complete projects. Students are asked to create PowerPoint presentations and use spreadsheets and database programs, as well as to research many topics on the Internet. Since students are competing for good grades, those who have limited access to computers are at a great disadvantage. Furthermore, being able to do projects using the computer enhances the process of learning, giving students the opportunity to find information that without a computer would be much more difficult to find.
If there are more computers, students will also be able to complete their work more efficiently. No more will they have to wait in line, paper and disk in hand, while scanning the room for an empty chair and computer. No longer will they have to sit and wait while an outdated computer struggles to follow their commands. Having more new and faster computers available will enable students to finish their work more quickly.
The more computers are used in society the more colleges will depend on them as a tool of teaching and learning. Making computers more available to students facilitates their learning process by making the process easier, more interesting, more engaging, and in the process enhancing their quality of life
The purpose of the author in writing the passage is .
A.to describe the problems caused by lack of computers
B.to explain why students are in great need of computers
C.to tell us what benefits students can gain from computers
D.to persuade the Dean to purchase more advanced computers
From the passage we can infer that .
A.present computers in the college cannot meet the demands of the students
B.computers in the college will be updated to meet the student’s demands soon
C.the college has the responsibility to help the students to prepare for their future
D.it is also necessary to expand the college bookstore by using part of the donation
In paragraph 4, the author mainly wants to tell us that .
A.computers are beneficial to students’ academic success
B.computers are helpful to student’s competition for success
C.students find it convenient to do assignments by using computers
D.students wish to use the money to buy more advanced computers

Finding summer jobs for teenagers has not always been easy, but now you no longer have to worry about what your kid can do to earn their own money. Recently I found some different sites online that offer information about what kids can do. Below is some of that information, along with questions to think about to help you come up with your own ideas. Ideas for summer work: ● Parks and Recreation Programs. ● Babysitting (當(dāng)臨時保姆) during the day of school. ● Working part-time at a day care for the summer. ● Car washing. ● Working at local vegetable stands. The easiest way for you to find ways for your child to make money is to think about others’ inconveniences (不方便). Think of things you need done, or would like to have done, and what you would consider paying for these things to get done. Once you have some ideas, you can sit down with your child and talk to them about what they would be interested in doing. Then once you have an idea of what they want to do you can help them come up with fair prices. Preferably you would want to only have your child working with people you know and trust, or in the least bit you could have your child pick a partner. That way with each of them carrying cell phones, even those without service can call 911, they will be much safer. You can find out more information and many more ideas for kids to use to make money during their summer holidays by visiting http://www.kidswantmoney.com. The author wrote the passage to _____. Right is right. Right? Of course. But is left wrong? Well, the Romans used to think so. They thought left-handed people were mistakes of nature. Latin, the language of the Romans, had many words that expressed this view. Some words we use today still have this meaning. The Latin word “dexter” means “right”. The English word “dexterous” comes from this word. It means “handy” (clever with hands). So, right is handy. But the Latin word for left is “sinister”. The English word “sinister” comes from this word. Sinister means “evil” (very bad). Is it fair to call right-handed people handy and left-handed people evil? Well, fair or not, many languages have words that express such beliefs. In old English, the word for left means “weak”. That isn’t much of an improvement over “evil”. Not very long ago, children were often forced to write with their right hands. Doctors have since found that this can be very harmful. You should use the hand you were born to use. People who use their left hands are just starting to get better treatment. But why they get all these bad names in the first place? One reason may be that there are not as many left-handed people as there are right-handed people. There is one left-handed person for every five right-handed ones. People who are different are often thought to be wrong. But attitudes do seem to be changing. Fair-minded right-handed people are finally starting to give left-handed people a hand. 1. What does the passage lead us to believe when one writes? A. He can only use his right hand. B. He can only use his left hand. C. He can use either his left hand or his right hand. D. He can use both his left hand and his right hand. 2. The last sentence of this article means ________. A. Fair-minded right-handed people want to change the habit of the left-handed people B. Fair-minded right-handed people are starting to help the left-handed people C. Fair-minded right-handed people are starting to use left hand to write and so on D. Fair-minded right-handed people are starting to give up using their left hands 3. After we read the article we can certainly know that _______. A. left-handed people have been treated poorly B. the number of the left-handed people is larger than that of right-handed people C. right-handed people are much cleverer than left-handed people D. left-handed people are less smart but hardworking 4. Which of the following is NOT right, according to the article? A. At one time, left-handed people were forced to use their right hands. B. Left-handed people today are being treated better than those in the past. C. There are not as many left-handed people as there are right-handed people today. D. “Dexterous” comes from Latin, means “evil” and English “sinister” means “handy”.
