【解析】Dear_Editor,

Nowadays_some_people_in_our_city_are_keeping_too_many_pets,but they don’t care about them enough. So I want to tell you something about the problems caused by them.

I consider the problems more and more serious for the following reasons.First of all,as is known to us,pets make too much noise that troubles residents a lot. What’s more,it’s widely accepted that animal wastes pollute the environment, which makes people quite uncomfortable. Many owners like taking their pets to public places. They may frighten children or even sometimes bite people. The most important thing is that pets can spread some diseases and this has attracted much attention.

Taking all these factors into consideration,I sincerely hope that I can get help from you and expect the media to do something for it.

Yours_faithfully,

Zhang_Hua

【題目】Liverpool, my hometown, is a unique city. It is so unique that in 2004 it became a World Heritage (遺產(chǎn)) Site.

I recently returned to my home city and my first stop was at a museum on the River Mersey. Blanketed in mist (薄霧), Victorian architecture rose from the banks of the river, responded to the sounds of sea-birds, and appeared unbelievably charming. When I headed toward the centre, I found myself surrounded by buildings that mirror the best palaces of Europe. It is not hard to imagine why, on first seeing the city, most visitors would be overpowered by the beauty of the noble buildings, which are solid signs of Liverpool’s history.

As if stress its cultural role, Liverpool has more museums and galleries (美術(shù)館) than most cities in Britain. At Walker Art Gallery, I was told that it has best collections of Victorian paintings in the world, and is the home of modern art in the north of England. However, culture is more than galleries. Liverpool offers many music events. As Britain’s No.1 music city, it has the biggest city music festival in Europe, and its musicians are famous all over the world. Liverpool is also well-known for its football and other sports events. Every year, the Mersey River Festival attracts thousands of visitors, madding the city a place of wonder.

As you would expect from such a city, there are restaurants serving food from around the world. When my trip was about to complete, I chose to rest my legs in Liverpool’s famous Philharmonic pub (酒館). It is a monument to perfection, and a heritage attraction itself.

Being a World Heritage Site, my home city is certainly a place of “outstanding universal value”. It is a treasure house with plenty of secrets for the world to explore.

Keeping Positive During a Long Job Search

A long job search can affect your attitude, especially if you're out of a job. If it's taking you longer than expected to find a job, the following tips can help you concentrate and stay positive, as well as reducing your depression.

_________ 1

When you no longer have a job to report for every day, you can easily lose motivation. Treat your job search like a regular job, with a daily "start" and "end" time. Following a set schedule will help you be more efficient and productive while you're out of a job.

__________ 2

Avoid getting overwhelmed by breaking big goals into small manageable steps. Instead of trying to do everything at once, first put something ahead. If you're out of luck in your job search, take some time to rethink your goals and work out another job search plan.

___________ 3

Make a list of all the things you're you like about yourself, including skills, characters, achievements and successes. Write down projects that proud of, situations where you excel and things you're good at. Review this list often to remind yourself of your strengths.

___________ 4

Being out of a job can decrease your self-esteem and make you feel useless. However, volunteering can help you maintain a sense of value and purpose. Helping others can put you in a good mood. Volunteering can also provide career experience, social support and networking opportunities.

__________ 5

You can't control how quickly a possible boss calls you back or whether or not he decides to hire you. Rather than wasting your energy and time on things that are out of your hands, turn your attention to things you can control during the time when you are out of a job, such as writing a great cover letter and resume to the company you want to work for, setting up meetings with your networking contacts and so on.

【題目】Every day, life is made and lost. Every day, life goes on. Every day we experience some of the most important parts of life and may not even realize it: love, generosity, and perseverance. These values aren't just important to us; they make the world what it is.

Scientists say that gravitational(重力的)force makes the world turn, but some people say that love makes it go round. Love can be found anywhere: in families, friends, even complete strangers. Even if you can’t see it, you know it's there.

Love may connect people all over the world, but what would the world be without generosity? Whether after a national disaster, or a school fund-raiser, one thing is certain--it is better to give than to receive. Generosity is found everywhere and whether it's a large or small act, it makes a difference. Most of all, being generous is not something you need any qualifications for, but no matter what you do, it can make a difference, Sometimes, though, it takes effort to be generous, which leads us to perseverance.

Founding a country, riding a bike, or finishing an essay, these are all finished with perseverance. Perseverance is the one thing that can help us achieve whatever we want. It is what helps scientists to discover cures for diseases, and athletes to become champions. You may fail, but every time you make a mistake, that's one less to make the next time.

There is an infinite(無窮的)number of things we value, but without love, generosity and perseverance, we just don't think that our life or the world would be the way it is.

【1】The underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refers to ______ ”.

A. the world B. gravitational force

C. value D. experience

【2】To be generous, the author thinks _____.

A. you needn't make efforts

B. you should be qualified

C. you should give all you have

D. you will find it good to give

【3】Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Perseverance is the only thing that can help us to achieve success.

B. People don't understand the life they are experiencing at all.

C. We can find love in complete strangers sometimes,

【4】What would be the best title for the passage?

A. Success and Failure. B. Three Values.
