Good nutrition and a balanced diet will help your children grow up healthily. No matter how old your kids are, you can take steps to improve nutrition and to encourage smart eating habits. Here are some suggestions.
Family Meals
Family meals are comforting for both parents and kids. Children like to guess what they are going to have and parents get the chance to introduce new foods to children and to find out which foods they like and which ones they don’t.
Teens may turn up their noses at your plan of a family meal. It is not surprising because they’re trying to establish independence. Yet studies find that teens still want their parents’ advice, so they use the mealtime as a chance to reconnect.
Stocking Up on Healthy Foods
Kids, especially younger ones, will eat mostly what they can get at home. That’s why it’s important to control the supply lines—the foods which you serve for meals and have on hand for snacks. You should have enough fruits, vegetables, lean meat and other good sources of protein, such as eggs and nuts, and healthy snacks, such as yogurt, peanut butter and whole-grain biscuits.
Being a Good Example
The best way for you to encourage healthy eating is to eat well yourself. Kids will follow the lead of the adults they see every day. By eating fruits and vegetables and avoiding fast food and sugary drinks, you’ll be sending the right message.
No Conflicts over Foods
Parents might find themselves shouting at children to get them to have healthy foods in front of them. This in fact can make children dislike what they are asked to eat.
Get Kids Included
Most kids will enjoy making the decision about what to make for dinner. Talk to them about making choices and planning a balanced meal. It can help prepare them to make good decisions on their own about the foods they want to eat.

After years of study, I have known there are only two types of people in this world: those who get to the airport early and those who arrive when the plane is about to take off.

If there were any justice(公正)in this world, early-airport people would be rewarded for doing the right thing. And late-airport people would be punished. But early-airport people get ulcers(潰瘍), heart attacks and bite their fingernails to the bone. Late-airport people almost don’t realize they are flying.

A guy of that kind once said, “Don’t hurry. If you miss your flight, it’s because God doesn’t want you to go.” This is clearly a guy who is never going to get an ulcer.

Early-airport people suffer another “name”. They are called exactly what they are -wimps(窩囊廢). I know. I was an early-airport person for years. “My baggage will get on the plane first,” I told myself. Indeed it would, which made it the last baggage they took off the plane after landing.

Another strange thing: No matter how early I showed up, I was always told that someone had called two or three years ahead of me and asked for the best seat. I thought it was a trick. I thought there was someone in America who called every airline every day and said: “Is that wimp Simon flying somewhere today? If he is , give me his seat.”

After a lifetime arguing with my wife over whether I really have to pack 24 hours in advance and set the alarm clock four hours ahead, I have learned another fact about early-airport people and late –airport people:

They always marry each other.

We can learn from the passage that     .

A. late-airport persons are often nervous

B. early-airport persons are always at ease during the flight

C. early-airport persons get their baggage first after the landing

D. late-airport persons always take things easy

Paragraph 5 mainly wants to tell us that      .

    A. someone always plays tricks on the writer

    B. the airlines usually fool passengers

C. early-airport persons always can’t get good seats

D. the service of airlines is very bad

This passage is written in order to     .

A. give readers tips about taking a plane

B. offer suggestions about having a good plane trip

C. express the writer’s anxiety about taking a plane

D. show people’s different attitudes toward catching planes

It could be inferred that the writer’s wife is     .

A. an early-airport woman               B. a late-airport woman

C. a hot-tempered woman                 D. a sensitive woman

The best thing you can say about the roofs of most city buildings is that you don’t have to look at them much. That’s very good, since and urban landscape viewed from above can be and unlovely thing-block after block of tarred(鋪有瀝青的)black rooftops, sticky in summer, windswept in winter, ugly year-round. Or at least that’s the way it used to be.

But urban roofs are going green. Environmental designers have begun to realize that the tops of buildings don’t have to be wastelands. Indeed, they can be gardens, planted with grasses, flowers and bushes.

A planted roof usually comes in one of two varieties: extensive or intensive. The extensive type is wide and shallow, with a soil depth of less than 8 inches, able to support smaller plants, The intensive type may be smaller, but it’s relatively deeper and home to larger plants.

Whatever the design, green roofs are not so simple as ordinary gardens. They have multiple layers beneath the soil, including a drainage layer, waterproofing, structural support, and so on .

But this system can do a great deal of good. A recent paper in the journal BioScience tells that green roofs can control temperature, contain water and clean the air. And most impressively, they can cut heat loss from a building by 50%, lower air-conditioning costs by 25%, and reduce the urban-heated-island effect by 2℃.

Of course, apart from the square feet greened and heat reduced, green roofs are even more valued since people can gain some psychological comfort simply by having a quiet place to go. As so often happens, what’s good for the planet can also be good for the spirit.

健康問題一直是生活中的熱點(diǎn)話題。尤其對于女性來說,你知道穿矮高跟鞋和純粹的高跟鞋對你身體健康的影響嗎?

Healthy knees aren't the main consideration in choosing high heels, but new research says chunky heels are just __________as spindly stilettos(細(xì)高跟鞋).

"It takes a long time to feel the effects of knee osteoarthritis(骨關(guān)節(jié)炎)— and once you do, it is too late," said Dr. Casey Kerrigan, leading researcher of the study and associate professor at Harvard Medical School's department of physical medicine.

"I compare it to smoking — one cigarette is not painful, but over a lifetime it is. Wide-heeled shoes feel comfortable, so women wear them all day long, "Kerrigan said.”They are better for your feet than stiletto heels, but just as had for your knees.”

The idea that high heels are bad for your health isn't new — scientists have warned women for years that they contribute to problems ranging from corns to hammer toes, tendonitis, knee pain, sprained(扭傷)ankles and back problems.

But in 1998, Kerdgan and a team of Harvard researchers were the first to link high heels and knee osteoarthritis, a painful joint disease that destroys cartilage(軟骨)surrounding the knee.

The first study looked only at stiletto heels, and Kerrigan said she wanted to study the chunky high-heeled shoes she noticed many women wearing.

"This study confirms what we all intuitively(直覺地)know that high-heeled shoes of any kind are not good for our health," said Dr. Glenn Pfeifer, a San Francisco doctor and member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons who was not connected to the study.

1. What’s the main idea of the passage?

2. Which sentence in the passage is the closest in meaning to the following one?

In my opinion, it is similar to smoking, for smoking one cigarette does little harm but if you smoke all your life, it’ll be very painful.

3. Please fill in the blank in the passage with proper words or phrases to complete the sentence.(within ten words)

4. What do you think of wearing the chunky heels according to the passage? (within 30 words)

5. Translate the underlined sentence into Chinese.
