Whether it is Mozart or Miley, your choice of music could determine whether you will perform well at your job. A new study suggests that listening to music in the office improves the speed and accuracy of tasks such as data entry, proofreading and problem solving. In an office?based experiment, 88 per cent of participants were found to produce their most accurate work when listening to music.

The study also found that 81 per cent completed their work fastest when music was played. And it matters what type of music you listen to. For instance, if you're doing your tax returns, then classical music is the most effective as it improves maths skills.

Listening to Jessie J or Justin Bieber could also improve your speed, with 58 per cent of participants completing data entry tasks faster while listening to pop songs. During proofreading, dance music, such as David Guetta, had the biggest positive impact with participants increasing their speed by 20 per cent compared to tests undertaken with no music at all. Dance music also had a positive effect on spell?checking with a 75 per cent pass rate compared to 68 per cent when no music was played at all.

The research, undertaken by Brighton?based Mindlab International, suggests that silent offices may be the least productive. The Music Works experiment revealed a positive correlation between music and productivity. Overall, it showed that when listening to music, nine out of ten people performed better, said Dr David Lewis, chairman of Mindlab International.

These tweets take advantage of the curiosity gap or attempt to draw the reader into a story using a question in the headline. These click bait headlines are so annoying that someone is attempting to save people's time by exposing news outlet click bait through social media. The Twitter account @ SavedYouAClick, run by Jake Beckman, is one such example.

Beckman's method is to grab tweets linking to a story and retweet them with a click?saving comment. For example, CNET tweeted “So iOS 8 appears to be jailbreakable but ...”， with a link to its coverage of Apple's product announcements. Beckman retweeted it with this comment attached: “...it hasn't been jailbroken yet.”

Since founding the account, Beckman's Twitter experiment has brought him more than 131,000 followers. More than 4 in 10 cancers — 600,000 in the UK alone — could be prevented if people led healthier lives, say experts. The population of the UK is about 63,000,000.

Latest figures from Cancer Research UK show smoking is the biggest avoidable risk factor (因素), followed by unhealthy diets. The charity advises people to live healthily, limit alcohol intake and do regular exercise.

According to the figures from 2007 to 2011, more than 300,000 cases of cancer recorded were linked to smoking. A further 145,000 were linked to unhealthy diets containing too much processed food. Professor Max Parkin, a Cancer Research UK statistician, says, “There's now little doubt that certain lifestyle choices can have a big influence on cancer risk, with research around the world all pointing to the same key risk factors.”

“Of course everyone wants to enjoy some extra treats during the Christmas holidays so we don't want to ban beef pies and wine but it's a good time to think about taking up some healthy habits.”

Public Health England says a healthy lifestyle can play an important role in reducing cancer risk.
