1.located

2.every/each

3.an

4.have been using/have used

5.Besides

6.who/that

7.in

8.polluted

9.importance

10.if/because

1. located on. 同時還有be located in/at的用法。故填located。

2. every/each在這里作形容詞,意為每一個,由” and almost 3. country has at least one river flowing through it”可知,這里既不能填all,因為與almost不能同時使用,也不能填no/none,因為那不符合實際情況。故填every/each。

4. an important part in是一個固定搭配,意為在……

5. Since the beginning of history, people 6. (use) rivers for transportation.” 故填have been using/have used。

7. rivers give water to drink, water for crops, and chances for fun and recreation for the people 8. live along their banks.”

故填who。

同后文” industries increase in number”中的in number屬于同種用法。故填size。

11.

The和of之間應(yīng)填名詞。故填importance。

13. People are learning the _________ (important) of doing more to keep their rivers clean”人們認識到保持他們的河流干凈的重要性,后文” they want to enjoy the benefits of this natural resource.”

My wife Julie and I were out on the road that runs around where we live, when we saw an old worn-out dog stumbling (蹣跚) painfully up the road. We stopped, bent down, talked gently to the dog and patted it. I checked and there was a collar with a phone number. I called but no one answered.

The dog was painfully thin. So Julie ran home to get some of our dog’s food while I tried to encourage the dog. After Julie came back, we sat down on the sidewalk while our new friend made short work of the food. Eventually we got her home.

After trying for many times we got a response from the number. A lady came around with a bunch of flowers for us. She explained that Tara had been her father’s dog. She was very old and got lost that morning. So, Tara was safely returned home.

Here is the truth of the story:

Actually Julie and I were out that morning because I was leaving. She was trying to persuade me to come back, but I wasn’t hearing anything that made that sound likely.

I was about to turn and go when an old black dog walked between us and almost fell down. Suddenly we had something more important than our problem to worry about. There was a creature in need right before us and we had to work together to help it.

We did help it. And here I am writing the story in my own home, in my own family.

In the song “Love Is Not a Fight” Warren Barfield talks about marriage. At one point he sings, “And if we try to leave, may God send angels to guard the door.”

Music is known to improve the mood of people. Often music helps us pay attention to what we are doing. Music helps patients feel good and helps them recover faster and better.

Depression(沮喪) is a state of mind that most of us experience at some point of time. There are some periods in our life when everything seems difficult. Christmas is the biggest holiday in many countries including the US and the UK. Decorating Christmas trees, giving gifts and singing Christmas songs are just a few of the traditions that the two nations share. However, just as there are many cultural differences between the two, Christmas is not the same on both sides of the Atlantic. BBC has pointed out some differences.

According to BBC, the language of Christmas is not completely the same in the US and UK. “Americans will appear confused or chuckle(暗自笑) to themselves if you wish them ‘Happy Christmas’ instead of ‘Merry Christmas’,” BBC said. In addition, the shortening of Christmas to “Chrimbo” is almost unknown in the US. Another difference is the name of the white-bearded man. British people usually call him “Father Christmas” while Americans refer to him only as “Santa Claus” or simply “Santa”.

A good, old US Christmas dinner doesn’t necessarily(必然地)have turkey. BBC explained that Americans prepare special food for Thanksgiving, and they often go for ham or roast beef on Christmas Day. Christmas cake, and Christmas pudding are popular desserts(餐后甜點)in the UK. In the US, however, your post-meal treat will probably be one of the following: pumpkin pie, fruit cake, apple pie, or sweet potato pie.

In the US, but not in the UK, the beautiful Christmas decorations you see in films are real, and some people even turn their houses into light shows, according to BBC. “Driving through American suburbia (郊區(qū)) at Christmas can sometimes feel like a tour of Disney World,” the news network described.

1.What might be the best title for the passage?

A. Christmas in the world

B. Christmas and traditions

C. The importance of Christmas

D. Christmas on both sides of the Atlantic

2.What can we learn from the second paragraph?

A. “Chrimbo” is more widely used in the UK.

B. We’d better say “Happy Christmas” to Americans.

C. White-bearded man is usually called “Father Christmas” in the US.

D. The language of Christmas is almost the same in the US and UK.

3.Which one is TRUE according to the passage?

A. Christmas is not exactly the same in the US and UK.

B. You can see the beautiful Christmas decorations in the UK.

C. Christmas cake, pudding are popular with American people.

D. You may have apple pie or fruit cake in your post-meal in the UK.

4.Where does the passage probably come from?

A. A science magazine. B. A culture magazine.

C. A guide book. D. A business report.
