2.Sometimes,the simplest ideas are the best.For example,to absorb heat from the sun to heat water,you need large,flat,black surfaces.One way to do that is to build those surfaces specially,on the roofs of buildings.But why go to all that trouble when cities are full of black surfaces already,in the form of asphalt (柏油) roads?
Ten years ago,this thought came into the mind of Arian de Bondt,a Dutch engineer.He finally persuaded his boss to follow it up.The result is that their building is now heated in winter and cooled in summer by a system that relies on the surface of the road outside.
The heat-collector is a system of connected water pipes.Most of them run from one side of the street to the other,just under the asphalt road.Some,however,dive deep into the ground.
When the street surface gets hot in summer,water pumped through the pipes picks up this heat and takes it underground through one of the diving pipes.At a depth of 100metres lies a natural aquifer (蓄水層) into which several heat exchangers (交換器) have been built.The hot water from the street runs through these exchangers,warming the ground-water,before returning to the surface through another pipe.The aquifer is thus used as a heat store.
In winter,the working system is changed slightly.Water is pumped through the heat exchangers to pick up the heat stored during summer.This water goes into the building and is used to warm the place up.After performing that task,it is pumped under the asphalt and its remaining heat keeps the road free of snow and ice.

64.Which of the following is true according to the first two paragraphs?D
A.Arian de Bondt got his idea from his boss.
B.Large,flat,black surfaces need to be built in cities.
C.The Dutch engineer's system has been widely used.
D.Heat can also be collected from asphalt roads.
65.For what purpose are the diving pipes used?D
A.To absorb heat from the sun.
B.To store heat for future use.
C.To turn solar energy into heat energy.
D.To carry heat down below the surface.
66.From the last paragraph we can learn thatB
A.some pipes have to be re-arranged in winter
B.the system can do more than warming up the building
C.the exchangers will pick up heat from the street surface
D.less heat may be collected in winter than in summer.

根據第一段的"to absorb heat from the sun to heat water,you need large,flat,black surfaces.One way to do that is to build those surfaces specially,on the roofs of buildings.But why go to all that trouble when cities are full of black surfaces already,in the form of asphalt (柏油) roads?"可知柏油路也可以用來收集熱量.故選D.
65.D  細節(jié)理解題.由"The hot water from the street runs through these exchangers, warming the ground-water,before returning to the surface through another pipe."可知潛水管的作用是把熱量傳導到下面的儲水層里.故選D.
66.B  細節(jié)理解題.由"After performing that task,it is pumped under the asphalt and its remaining heat keeps the road free of snow and ice."可知這個系統(tǒng)不僅僅是可以給建筑物供暖,還可以防止道路結冰積雪.故選B.

12.Long ago God had a great many burdens which he wished to have carried from one place to another on the earth,so he asked the animals to lend a hand. But all of them began to make excuses for not helping:the elephant was too dignified; the lion, too proud; and so on.Finally the birds came to God and said,"If you will tie the burdens into small bundles,we'll be glad to carry them for you.We are small but we would like to help."So God fastened upon the back of each one a small bundle, and they all set out walking across the plain to their destination. They sang as they went, and did not seem to feel the weight of their burdens at all.Every day the burdens seemed lighter and lighter until the loads seems to be lifting the birds, instead of the birds carrying the burdens. When they arrived at their destination, they discovered that when they removed their loads, there were wings in their place. It was the wings that enabled them to fly to the sky.

13.GUATEMALA CITY (Reuters)-A fish that lives in mangrove swamps(紅樹沼澤)across the Americas can live out of water for months at a time,similar to how animals adapted(適應)to land millions of years ago,a new study shows.
The Magrove Rivulus,a type of small killifish,lives in small pools of water in a certain type of empty nut or even old beer cans in the mangrove swamps of Belize,the United States and Brazil.When their living place dries up,they live on the land in logs(圓木),said Scott Taylor,a researcher at the Brevard Endangered Lands Program in Florida.
The fish,whose scientific name is Rivulus marmoratus,can grow as large as three inches.They group together in logs and breathe air through their skin until they can find water again.
The new scientific discovery came after a trip to Belize.
"We kicked over a log and the fish just came crowding out,"Taylor told Reuters in neighboring Guatgemala by telephone.He said he will make his study on the fish known to the public in an American magazine early next year.
In lab tests,Taylor said he found the fish can live up to 66days out of water without eating.
Some other fish can live out of water for a short period of time.The walking catfish found in Southeast Asia can stay on land for hours at time,while lungfish found in Australia,Africa and South America can live out of water,but only in an inactive state.But no other known fish can be out of water as long as the Mangrove Rivulus and remain active,according to Patricia Wright,a biologist at Canada's University of Guelph.
Further studies of the fish may tell how animals changed over time.
"These animals live in conditions similar to those that existed millions of years ago, when animals began making the transition(過渡)from water onto land,"Wright said.

11.When I was seven my father gave me a Timex,my first watch.I loved it,wore it for years, and haven't had another one since it stopped ticking a decade ago. Why?Because I don't need one.I have a mobile phone and I'm always near someone with an iPod or something like that. All these devices(裝置)tell the time-which is why,if you look around, you'll see lots of empty wrists; sales of watches to young adults have been going down since 2007.
But while the wise have realized that they don't need them,others-apparently including some distinguished men of our time-are spending total fortunes on them.Brands such as Rolex,Patek Philippe and Breitling command shocking prices,up to£250.000for a piece.
This is ridiculous.Expensive cars go faster than cheap cars.Expensive clothes hang better than cheap clothes. But these days all watches tell the time as well as all other watches.Expensive watches come with extra functions-but who needs them? How often do you dive to 300metres into the sea or need to find your direction in the area around the South Pole?So why pay that much of five years'school fees for watches that allow you to do these things?
If justice were done, the Swiss watch industry should have closed down when the Japanese discovered how to make accurate watches for a five-pound note.Instead the Swiss reinvented the watch, with the aid of millions of pounds'worth of advertising,as a message about the man wearing it.Rolexes are for those who spend their weekends climbing icy mountains; a Patek Philippe is for one from a rich or noble family; a Breitling suggests you like to pilot planes across the world.
Watches are now classified as"investments"(投資).A 1994Philippe recently sold for nearly?£350,000,while 1960s Rolexes have gone from?15,000to?30,000plus in a year. But a watch is not an investment. It's a toy for self-satisfaction,a matter of fashion.Prices may keep going up--they've been rising for 15years.But when of fashion.Prices may keep going up-they've been rising for 15years.But when fashion moves on,the owner of that?£350,000beauty will suddenly find his pride and joy is no more a good investment than my childhood Times.

58.The sales of watches to young people have fallen because theyA.
A.have other devices to tell the time
B.think watches too expensive
C.prefer to wear an iPod
D.hame no sense of time
59.It seems ridiculous to the writer thatD.
A.people dive 300metres into the sea
B.expensive clothes sell better than cheap ones
C.cheap cars don't run as fast as expensive ones
D.expensive watches with unnecessary functions still sell
60.What can be learnt about Swiss watch industry from the passage?A
A.It targets rich people as its potential customers.
B.It's hard for the industry to beat its competitors.
C.It wastes a huge amount of money in advertising.
D.It's easy for the industry to reinvent cheap watches.
61.Which would be the best title for the passage?C
A.Timex or Rolex?
