【1】C

【2】A

【3】D

【4】A

根據(jù)文章第一段第2句“We didn’t know at that time there even was an environment, let alone that there was a problem with it,” says Bruce Anderson, president of Earth Day USA.

Business people, political leaders, university professors, and especially millions of grass-roots Americans are taking part in the movement. 故A正確。

According to US government reports , emissions (排放)from cars and trucks have dropped from 10.3 million tons a year to 5.5 tons. The number of cities producing CO beyond the standard has been reduced from 40 to 9 . A項(xiàng)中的to the lowest是錯(cuò)誤的。 文章中只是說(shuō)The number of cities producing CO beyond the standard has been reduced from 40 to 9.

Twenty –five years ago, there were hardly any education programs for environment. Today, it’s hard to find a public school , university, or law school that does not have such a kind of program. 故A正確。

As is known to us, some students cheat in exams at school. As students, we often take exams at school, sometimes we have many exams that is too difficult for us. In addition, some of us are lazy and don’t work hard on our lessons. So when taken exams, we sometimes cheat in order to get good results to make our parents and teachers pleased.

In my opinion, it was wrong to cheat in exams because it breaks the rules of the schools. Our students should be honesty and try to get good results by studying hard instead of cheating in exams. What’s more, we should improve our method of study and make well preparations for exams. With the saying goes, “Nothing is impossible for a willing heart.

Stayathome kids are named “generation nini” in Spain. They are those adults who still live at home and are neither working nor studying. But the problem is by no means limited to Spain. It is a worldwide problem.

In Italy, they are known as “bamboccioni” or big babies. There nearly 60 percent of 1834yearold adults still live in their parents' home, up from almost 50 percent since 1983. Once kept there by the love for their mama's homecooked food, the economic crisis has seen a rise in adults left unable to hold down a steady job or afford a home of their own. Last year, an Italian government minister admitted that his mother washed his clothes and made the bed for him until he was 30. He demanded a law forcing young Italians to leave their parents' home at 18 to stop them becoming hopelessly dependent on their parents.

In the UK, the government has made the term NEETS—not in employment, education or training for these children. In England alone the percent of NEETS aged 19-24 surged to 18.8 percent of the age group—in the last quarter of 2010, up 1.4 percent on the same period a year before. The number of British men in their 20s living with their parents has risen from 59 percent to 80 percent in the past 15 years, while the number of women has risen from 41 percent to 50 percent. The average age of the firsttime house buyers is now 38.

In the US, the problem is known as the “full nest syndrome (綜合癥)”. Adults there are left struggling to support adult children who have stayed at home with student debts and facing few job opportunities in a weak economy. A recent study showed almost a third of American adults aged 34 and under are living with their parents.

1“Big babies” mentioned in Paragraph 2 refer to those adults who ________.

A. are poorly educated

B. are not as smart as others

C. lose their job in the bad economy

D. rely on their parents for a living

2The Italian government minister thinks that ________.

A. parents should make their children feel hopeless

B. young people should live on their own after 18

C. parents should never make the bed for their children

D. it is OK for adult children to live with their parents

3The underlined word “surged” in Paragraph 3 can be replaced by “________”.

A. jumped B. reduced

C. recovered D. moved

4What does the last paragraph tell us?

A. Some American adult children are a burden to their parents.

B. American parents are happy to live with their children.

C. America has the most adult children compared with other countries.

D. It is a tradition for adult children to live with their parents in America.

For years we have been told that encouraging a child’s self-respect is important to his or her success in life. But child experts are now learning that too much praise can lead to the opposite effect. Praise-aholic kids who expect it at every turn may become teens who seek the same kind of approval from their friends when asked if they want to go in the backseat of the car.

The implication(含義) of saying “You are the prettiest girl in class,” or talking about the goals she scored but not her overall effort, is that you love her only when she looks the best, scores the highest, achieves the most. And this carries over to the classroom.

Social psychologist Carol Dweck, PHD, tested the effects of over-praise on 400 fifth graders while she was at Columbia University. She found that kids praised for “trying hard” did better on tests and were more likely to take on difficult assignments than those praised for being “smart”.

“Praising attributes(品質(zhì)) or abilities makes a false promise that success will come to you because you have that quality, and it devalues effort, so children are afraid to take on challenges,” says Dweck, now at Stanford University, “They figure they’d better quit while they’re ahead.”

1The underlined words “Praise-aholic kids” refer to kids who are ______.

A. tired of being praised B. worthy of being praised

C. very proud of being praised D. extremely fond of being praised

2The author quoted Dr.Dweck’s words in the last paragraph in order to make the article ______.

A. better-known B. better-organized

C. more persuasive D. more interesting

3We can infer from the passage that _______.

A. praise for efforts should be more encouraged

B. praise for results works better than praise for efforts

C. praising a child’s achievements benefits his or her success in life

D. praising a child’s abilities encourages him or her to take on challenges

【題目】There are two factors (因素) which decide an individual’s intelligence (智商). The first is the sort of brain he is born with. Human brains differ greatly, some being more capable (有能力) than others. But no matter how good a brain he has to begin with, an individual (個(gè)體) will have a low order of intelligence unless he has opportunities to learn. So the second factor is what happens to the individual—the sort of environment in which he is brought up. If an individual has less chances environmentally, it is likely that his brain will fail to develop and he will never arrive at the level of intelligence of which he is capable.

The importance of environment in deciding an individual’s intelligence can be shown by the case history of the twins. When they were three months old, their parents died, and they were placed in different homes. Peter was brought up by parents of low intelligence in a separate community with poor educational opportunities. Mark was brought up in the home of well-to-do opportunity to be encouraged intellectually.

This environmental difference continued until the twins were in their late teens, when they were given tests to measure their intelligence. Mark’s IQ was 125, twenty-five points higher than the average and fully forty points higher than his twin brother. Given equal opportunities, the twins, having similar brains, would have tested at roughly the same level.

1This passage can best be titled .

A. Measuring Your Intelligence

B. Intelligence and Environment

C. The Case of Peter and Mark

D. How the Brain Influences Intelligence

2According to the passage, the average IQ is .

A. 85 B. 100

C. 110 D. 125

3The best statement of the main idea of this passage is that .

A. human brains differ greatly

B. the brain a person is born with is important in deciding his intelligence

C. environment is important in deciding a person’s intelligence

D. persons having similar brains will have roughly the same intelligence

4This passage suggests that an individual’s IQ .

A. can be foretold (預(yù)言) at birth

B. stays the same throughout his life

C. can be increased by education

D. is determined by his childhood
