【題目】 Last semester in my final year of high school, I had a kind teacher whom I can never forget. I was not the best student when it came to writing tests. I had to work extra hard to get good marks, although I enjoyed learning. Anyway, this class that I truly enjoyed still had me struggling to do well on my tests. My teacher willingly helped me and was always willing to answer my questions, and I greatly appreciated it. He was a remarkable teacher, always reaching out to students and helping them achieve their greatest potential.

I remember the day of writing my final exam, I was the last one still writing in the exam room as always, reviewing my exam paper, while everyone else had already finished and left the room. After turning in my exam-paper, I started to leave the classroom, but decided to turn around and say what I had meant to say.

What I did right then was that I sincerely thanked my teacher for everything. What I said to him lastly meant a lot more to him than I thought it would —“I really enjoyed this class.” I did not think much about it. I was just being honest with him, but the look on his face was remarkable. He seemed really touched and appreciated my simple comment, just knowing that one of his students had truly enjoyed his class. That is what I call a simple, yet very meaningful act of kindness to brighten a teacher’s day, because they work so hard for us and truly inspire us to learn.

It is what we say and do to show concern to others that can make somebody else’s day extra special. I believe that a simple praise can mean a lot more than one can think.

When people hear the word 'rat', they may think of dirty animals that spread disease. And if you are an English learner, you may also connect the word 'rat' with bad 1 (express). For example, calling someone a 'rat' is 2 big insult and 'rat race' describes a joyless, hurried way of living. So rats 3 (general) are not beloved animals either in life or the English language. But the rat trainers at the nonprofit organization, APOPO, see the animals very differently.

Based on Tanzania, APOPO trains giant rats 4 (find) landmines. Humans 5 (use) metal-searching devices to do this work for years. But rats--- it turns out--- do it better. And they also cost 6 (little) money. APOPO estimates that worldwide there are 110 million 7 (hide) explosives (爆炸物) left over from wars. These explosives are still 'live', or able to explode. The work that APOPO does is really important in spreading the fact 8 rats are not just a pest. They really are 9 (hero) and they show us every day that they are worthy 10 that name.

【題目】閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)所給情節(jié)進(jìn)行續(xù)寫,使之構(gòu)成一個完整的故事。續(xù)寫詞數(shù)為150字左右。

The spot of red was what first caught Randy Heiss’s attention on December 16, 2018. He was hiking the remote land behind his farm in a small town near the U.S.-Mexico border, and there lying on the grass was a balloon. He walked toward it with his dog, thinking he should pick it up and throw it away.

That’s when he noticed the balloon’s string was attached to a piece of paper. “Dayami,” it read on one side, in a child’s writing. Heiss flipped the paper over. On the back he saw a numbered list, all in Spanish. His Spanish wasn’t very good, but he could see it was a Christmas list!

Heiss was charmed. He suspected that a child had tried to send Santa Claus a Christmas wish list by balloon, something he used to do himself when he was a kid. Nobody had ever returned the letters Heiss had sent, but he wondered whether he could find the girl who had sent this one.

It would be difficult, but Heiss had a few clues. About 20 miles to the southwest, just across the border, was the city of Nogales, Mexico, with a population of about a quarter million. Based on the wind direction, he was almost sure that was where it came from. Heiss brought the note home to his wife, who is fluent in Spanish and helped him translate the list. They determined that Dayami, probably a girl, had asked for a doll, a dollhouse, doll clothes and art supplies.

Heiss then posted his search about finding Dayami on Facebook, attaching photos, hoping some of his friends in Nogales might know the girl’s family. A few days passed with no results; Heiss worried that time was running out before Christmas. On December 19, 2018, he decided to send a private Facebook message to Radio Xeny, an AM radio station based in Nogales. To his surprise, someone from the station called him back right away and promised him to post his search on the station’s Facebook page immediately.

Paragraph 1:

The next morning, Heiss awoke to a message from Radio Xeny.

【題目】 PCs are no longer the only things that can be hacked(非法侵入). Anything with an electronic pulse, including cars, TVs and refrigerators, is now a target for hackers. Here are several strangest hacks that show where the future is headed:

Remote-controlling a car – Well-known security researcher Charlie Miller is able to control a car by accessing the automotive computer. Cyber Murder – In Season 2 of Show Time’s homeland series, hackers kill the US Vice President by hacking his pacemaker(心臟起搏器). Typical Hollywood B. S., right? No. It could actually happen. Well-known security researcher Barnaby Jack, who sadly passed away in July at the age of 35, had been prepared to demonstrate at Back Hat how to hack a pacemaker over Wi-Fi. The attack could kill a person by giving the pacemaker a high-voltage shock.

Spy Phone – By now, more people are becoming aware of the potential for a phone to be hacked. But what many fail to realize is the awesome potential of a smart phone to affect you, it has been hacked.

When Your TV Watches You – This type of hack makes it possible to monitor people in their homes via the internet. Smart TVs aren’t that common yet, but in the next few years they could become an important part of the living room, so watch out.
