It’s natural to greet friends with a smile and a wave . 1. But what happens if your face and body send mixed messages ? Would someone be more likely to believe the look on your face or the way you hold your body ?
Scientists have recently tackled these questions . They found that when a person is looking at your face , she might not believe what she sees if your body language doesn’t match the feeling that your face shows . 2. Previously , they had found that the tone of a person’s voice can be more important than the words that are spoken . For example , most people tend not to believe a person who says in a flat voice , “ I’m so excited . ”
When it came to emotions conveyed by facial expressions and body language , most scientists suspected that the face was more important . To test if this was true , psychologists from the Netherlands and Boston showed people a number of pictures of isolated faces and isolated bodies (with faces blurred out(模糊的)) that showed anger or fear . 3. An angry face had low eyebrows and tight lips . A scared face had high eyebrow and a slightly open mouth . 4. A scared body had arms forward and shoulders square , as if ready to defend .
These results told the researchers that mixed signals can confuse people . Even when people pay attention to the face , body language subtly influences which emotion they read . 5. If you want to be understood , it helps to avoid sending mixed messages .
A. Studying such mixed messages is nothing new for scientists .
B. So , your body language is important for telling people how you feel .
C. Scientists feel new to study the mixed message that confuses people .
D. An angry body had arms back and shoulders at an angle , as if ready to fight .
E. Body language can sometimes be misunderstood in different culture backgrounds .
F. When you do this , your face and body work together to show your friends that you’re happy to see them .
G. They also showed pictures in which angry or scared faces were paired with angry or scared bodies .

When you are traveling in Thailand, which means of transport is the best choice?
You can rent a variety of motorbikes or bikes in Thailand. It seems to be very popular in most of the beaches and islands along the places in the north. The most popular bikes are the little 125 cc Honda Dream which you can get for about 150 baht (銖) a day or as little as 3,000 baht per month, making it the cheapest way to tour Thailand for the people from other countries.
Sometimes you will have to go somewhere by taxi. When you are in cities in Thailand, especially in Bangkok, always remember to get a taxi that is going on the roads. Some drivers outside hotels refuse to use the milometer (計(jì)程表). They will ask a price which is several times the price when they use the meter!
The quality of the roads in Thailand is generally pretty good, so renting cars is another way to get around. The big car rental companies may offer you slightly older cars at a very reasonable (合理的) price. It is a little surprising considering that the cost of buying a car in Thailand is more than that in the West. Petrol is also reasonably priced in Thailand, more expensive than American prices, but much cheaper than what is paid in Europe. In the past, Bangkok could be a difficult place to drive in — signs were generally in Thai only, making it a hard job to find exactly where you were by looking around. But now, the situation is improved. In a lot of places, even the farthest corners of the country, street signs are in both Thai and English.
1.To a foreigner, the cheapest way to get around Thailand is renting a ________.
A. car B. taxi C. bike D. motorbike
2.What is the writer's advice about taking a taxi in Thailand?
A. To take a taxi driving on the road.
B. To take a taxi parked outside hotels.
C. To make sure there is a meter in it.
D. To bargain with the driver over the price.
3.It was difficult to drive in Bangkok in the past because ________.
A. there were too many traffic jams on the roads
B. there were no signs showing directions
C. the signs were written only in their own language
D. the quality of the roads was not good

The values of artistic works, according to cultural relativism(相對(duì)主義), are simply reflections of local social and economic conditions. Such a view, however, fails to explain the ability of some works of art to excite the human mind across cultures and through centuries.
History has witnessed the endless productions of Shakespearean plays in every major language of the world. It is never rare to find that Mozart packs Japanese concert halls, as Japanese painter Hiroshige does Paris galleries, Unique works of this kind are different from today’s popular art, even if they began as works of popular art. They have set themselves apart in their timeless appeal and will probably be enjoyed for centuries into the future.
In a 1757 essay, the philosopher David Hume argued that because“ the general principles of taste are uniform(不變的) in human nature,” the value of some works of art might be essentially permanent. He observed that Homer was still admired after two thousand years. Works of this type, he believed, spoke to deep and unvarying features of human nature and could continue to exist over centuries.
Now researchers are applying scientific methods to the study of the universality of art. For example, evolutionary psychology is being used by literary scholars to explain the long-lasting themes and plot devices in fiction. The structures of musical pieces are now open to experimental analysis as never before. Research findings seem to indicate that the creation by a great artist is as permanent an achievement as the discovery by a great scientist.
1.According to the passage, what do we know about cultural relativism?
A. It introduces different cultural values.
B. It explains the history of artistic works.
C. It relates artistic values to local conditions.
D. It excites the human mind throughout the world.
2.In Paragraph 2, the artists are mentioned in order to show that ---.
A. great works of art can go beyond national boundaries
B. history gives art works special appeal to set them apart
C. popular arts are hardly distinguishable from great arts
D. great artists are skilled at combining various cultures
3.According to Hume, some works of art can exist for centuries because ----.
A. they are results of scientific study
B. they establish some general principles of art
C. they are created by the world’s greatest artists
D. they appeal to unchanging features of human nature
4.Which of the following can best serve as the title of the passage
A. Are Artistic Values Universal
B. Are Popular Arts Permanent
C. Is Human Nature Uniform
D. Is Cultural Relativism Scientific

Are you good with money?I learnt to be careful with it during my childhood. My father would give me some pocket money and tell me it should last for a whole week. So,I learnt I had to save some if I didn’t want to run out of cash quickly. No surprise there:my dad was an accountant!
It's never too early to become money savvy(會(huì)理財(cái)).That's what British personal finances expert Martin Lewis thinks. He was part of a successful campaign to include financial education on the school curriculum in England. It will be embedded(植入)in maths and citizenship education. This includes children from 5 to 16 years old.
Lewis says:“We desperately need to break the cycle of financial illiteracy(無(wú)知)in the UK—one of the causes of our current economic crisis and a huge contributor to continued mis-selling epidemics(違規(guī)銷(xiāo)售).”
Being careful with money pays off. Banks in Britain recently found themselves having to pay a large number of people who were persuaded to spend money and buy insurance policies they didn’t need. Many wasted their money on investments which were not for them. Few have the patience to read the small print.
The British say‘take care of the pennies and the pounds will take care of themselves’.It means you have to watch your daily expenses and not just the big purchases in your life such as houses.
Martin Lewis has made millions from his website which advises people to be thrifty(節(jié)儉)and refuses any suggestion that he is mean. The expert says in an interview with the English newspaper the Daily Express:“the better you are with your cash, the better your life can be. People think I am telling them to stop spending money but I am simply telling them to spend it wisely.”
1.From Paragraph 1 we can know that the author ___________.
A. was in deep debt
