People spend more time in reading to prepare themselves for the future. E. The benefits of group events in improving the speed-reading ability. F. Courses available to improve the speed-reading ability. |
61.____________
Speed reading has become a necessity in the business world as well as in the world of education. More and more people are signing up to take courses online or at local community colleges to improve not only their reading speed but also the rate at which they accurately comprehend the materials they are reading.
62.__________
Many people constantly attend courses, trying to improve their reading speed and the comprehension ability. We’re in such a world where everyone maintains copious (豐富的) useless trivia rattling around in our brains in order to come out at unexpected times. However, we all know that there is no such a thing as bad knowledge, so we constantly educate ourselves in the hope that we can face any challenge or difficulty in life with ease.
63.__________
If you are looking for a speed-reading course in order to improve your skills, I recommend courses in which you are doing more than reading tips and advice. There are many that offer software, games, and other boosters to help you learn to read faster. I’m a bit skeptical of the idea of simply reading a list of suggestions in order to accelerate the reading speed and improve the reading comprehension.
64.__________
If you have joined a local group that often get together in order to “compete” or offer that little bit of competitive edge as far as speed reading goes, this is an excellent motivator for those who need a little push or a friendly competition in order to really get into the swing of things. Having some degree of accountability to yourselves or others always seem to help and offer that extra little nudge to do things faster the next time. However, it’s easier to compete with others than it is to compete with yourself. Therefore, group events are great way to encourage you to show marked improvement in your speed-reading ability.
65.__________
Keep in mind that if one method doesn’t seem to be working for you, you should try another rather than giving up all together. No two brains are alike and it sometimes takes a lot of trial and error before you find the most suitable way. The ability of speed reading is a great gift given to you by God, so don’t give up easily.

A~F選項中選出能概括每一段主題的最佳選項,選項中有一項為多余選項。Effective reading should adopt(采納)a correct way, and then you can get more by paying less. Here are some hints(建議)for reading effectively.
1.________
Don't choose a rather difficult book or a too easy one for yourself to read.A book full of new words will make you feel discouraged quickly. To understand those new words, you have to turn to the dictionary.A too easy one will only waste your time and cannot do any help. The two extremes may at last make you give up reading. So it's better for you to find a proper book with no more than five new words on each page.
2.________
If you come across a new word, do not look it up in a dictionary at once.Leave it alone and guess the meaning of it based on the content of the test. This ability is quiet necessary in reading. If you know your guess is right later, you will be highly excited at your “success”, and your interest in reading is well encouraged. If a word really prevents you from understanding the whole passage, turn to the dictionary by then.I am sure you can remember this word very well, as it has left you such a deep impression for its “troublesome image”.
3.________
To comprehend what you are reading, you should think while you are reading, then form your own ideas.Your writing does not need to be quite formal but expressive. This practice can make you communicate with the original English authors.Day by day, your way of thinking in English will turn into a native way, which is quite important for English writing.
4.________
Language has its own beauty, no matter Chinese or English.Don't merely take English as a “test”.Take it as an “entertainment” instead and you will enjoy it through learning.Maybe you should find some beautiful literary works such as a prose or a poem to read, if you like.Try to read them as loudly and impassionedly(充滿激情地)as you can.During this process, not only can you enjoy yourself by the great emotions of the writes, but also your pronunciation and your manner of speaking English will be improved.
5.________
The last but not the least, keep on reading. If you cannot keep it as a habit, you will suffer from paying without gaining.

I am a member of our school’s volunteer association. During my freshman(大學(xué)一年級新生) year, I was asked to write up a plan for volunteers who assisted patients there. So I visited the hospice (末期病人療養(yǎng)所) several times. Later, I realized I could do more for the patients and so began volunteering.
___________________
When I was a freshman, I was not used to college life. I sometimes felt the hospice was like home. Here, many grannies treated me like their own relative, and I could feel strongly that I was needed. Just shaking hands made them come to life. I not only get great comfort from helping many patients get through the last period of their lives. I also learn a lot from their experiences.
___________________
You have to be prepared both mentally and physically. Most people at this hospice are facing death. So you have prepared to be patient and make them happy and relaxed. Also, persistence is needed. After seeing so many people here die, I know that persistence is hard. But you have to remember that you job is to help them feel less pain before death.

Good volunteers have something in common: They regard their job as a career, rather than some task that’s been assigned. They learn to enjoy what they are doing, no matter how boring it is. We have a volunteer who has been with us for more than a year. His job is translating letters from kids we helped. Even when he was busy with his classes, he would take a taxi to our office to pick up the letters. When we asked him why, he told us he enjoyed the kids’ stories and learned a lot from them.
___________________
Students are often very enthusiastic and direct. They give us feedback that helps us improve our work. And they value the opportunity we give them to broaden their horizons. However, they are still young and some are not responsible enough. And sometimes, they are lazy and careless.

61.
We' ve all been hurt by another person at some time or another—we were treated badly, trust was broken and hearts were hurt. And while this pain is normal, sometimes that pain continues for too long. We experience the pain over and over, and hate a hard time letting go. This causes problems. It not only causes us to be unhappy, but can ruin relationships, distract (使分心) us from work and family and other important things, make us unwilling to open up to new things and people. We get trapped in a cycle of anger and hurt, and miss out on the beauty of life as it happens. We need to learn to let go. We need to be able to forgive,so we can move on and be happy. It' s not easy, but you can learn to do it.
62.
What problems does this pain cause you? Does it affect your relationship with this person? With others? Does it affect work or family? Does it stop you from realizing, your dreams, or becoming a better person? Does it make you unhappy? Think of all these problems, and realize you need to change. Then think of the benefits of forgiveness—how it will make you happier, free you from the past and improve things with your relationships and life in general.
63.
Try to understand why the person did what he did. What could he have been thinking, and what could have happened to him in the past to make him do what he did? What could he have felt as he did it, and what did he feel afterward? How does he feel now? You aren't saying what he did is right, but are instead trying to understand.
64.
Try to figure out how you could have been partly responsible for what happened. What could you have done to prevent it, and how can you prevent it from happening next time? This isn't to say you are taking all the blame, or taking responsibility away from the other person, but to realize that we are not victims but participants in life.
65.
As you focus on the present, try focusing on your breathing. Imagine each breath going out is the pain and the past, and imagine each breath coming in is peace, entering you and filling you up.
