【答案】Dear Alan,

It's great to hear from you. And I feel very proud knowing your interest in the classical Chinese poetry.

Personally, I do like Li Bai, a typical romantic poet from the Tang dynasty and crowned as Fairy Poet. Believe it or not, he has left us nearly 1,000 compositions, many of which still enjoy great popularity today including his Quiet Night Thoughts. Head up, I watch the moon; Head down, I think of home? So vivid are the descriptions that I can't help picturing the scene in my mind. While reading. his magnificent masterpieces, I usually feel free, energetic and confident or sad, lonely and isolated. To be frank, it is the emotions presented in his poems that touch me most.

Interested in him? Want some books of him? Just let me know. Best wishes!

Yours,

Li Hua

【題目】 Whoever wrote the song 'It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year' must have never experienced the holiday blues. Fortunately, psychological research suggests some effective ways you can use to beat the holiday blues. The key point is that sadness and other tough emotions are not what we should try to avoid. 1. Here are four strategies to help you make your own happiness recipe this holiday season.

Don't force cheer

At family gatherings with cousins you secretly can’t stand, you tend to put on a happy face. Indeed, that might even seem like the most mature response—no drama, no conflict. But a 2011 study followed dozens of bus drivers, looking to see when they gave forced or honest smiles at their passengers. The results showed when the drivers pretended to have a good mood, their actual moods got worse. 2.

Let out sadness

The results of the busdriver study can be explained by researchers, who find that negative feelings like sadness or anger only increase when we try to control them. 3. We don't like contradictory behavior.

Respond cautiously

Recently, scientists have been paying special attention to the benefits of caution. When you respond cautiously to an emotional trigger, you pause rather than react at once. 4. Besides, it is associated with less anxiety, and may even carry physiological benefits.

5

Of course, the holidays will bring a mix of highs and lows, but the most important lesson to keep in mind is that this variety of emotions might be the best thing possible for your overall wellbeing. In other words, sadness, anger, and other difficult emotions are nothing to fear. Just make sure you're balancing them with lighter experiences. And don’t forget to give yourself a break.

A.Relax your mind

B.Enjoy a mix of emotions

C.We tend to deny the important function emotions serve

D.Instead, they can help contribute to a healthy and happy life

E.So trying to force happiness seems to have the opposite effects

F.A cautious response to a negative event reduces sadness we experience

G.We feel bad when our appearance contradicts how we truly feel inside

【題目】 PCs are no longer the only things that can be hacked(非法侵入). Anything with an electronic pulse, including cars, TVs and refrigerators, is now a target for hackers. Here are several strangest hacks that show where the future is headed:

Remote-controlling a car – Well-known security researcher Charlie Miller is able to control a car by accessing the automotive computer. Spy Phone – By now, more people are becoming aware of the potential for a phone to be hacked. But what many fail to realize is the awesome potential of a smart phone to affect you, it has been hacked.

When Your TV Watches You – This type of hack makes it possible to monitor people in their homes via the internet. Smart TVs aren’t that common yet, but in the next few years they could become an important part of the living room, so watch out.

【題目】 Have you ever frequently put off things you should do for various reasons? If so, it is procrastination (拖延). Procrastinators often put off doing things and leave them to the very last moment. 1Lazy people simply don’t do anything and are just fine with it. Procrastinators, on the other hand, have the desire to do something but can’t force themselves to start.

You might think procrastination is a bit annoying but fairly harmless. However, long term procrastination has bad effects on your health. Not having seen the doctor when your illness was easier to treat may shorten your life. Just thinking about what you haven’t done may cause discomfort. 2

Don’t place too much pressure on yourself. “This project has to impress everyone; I really can’t blow this opportunity,” 3 Overcome this mental block by simply allowing yourself to be imperfect with the next small task. You can always improve your work later.

4 Concentrating on the size and difficulty of a task will overcome you and promote procrastination. Any work can be broken into smaller steps. The trick is - with each step along the way to focus on the next achievable tasks. Make sure you can easily imagine the outcome of your small task. Don’t write a book; write a page.

Focus on starting, rather than finishing. For someone who’s having a hard time starting a task, imagining a hard-to-grasp future can be depressing. The solution in this case, then, is to focus on starting. 5 We all know that if we start, we’ll eventually finish the task.

A.Break a long project down into short tasks.

B.So procrastination is about managing the time.

C.So we should apply ourselves to overcoming it.

D.However, procrastination is different from laziness.

E.Focus on the negative effects of the procrastination.

F.Bring your focus from the future to what can be done right now.

G.Placing such high hopes on a project only adds anxiety and fear of failure.
