SECTION B
Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and the required words limit. Write your answers on your answer sheet.
People working in places where large quantities of chemicals are involved, are more likely to suffer from chemical burns. Other incidents may occur at home through accidental misuse of products such as those used for hair, nails, skin, etc. A chemical skin burn is usually caused by acids like battery acid, toilet bowel cleaner, etc. Alkalis(堿) like paint removers are also responsible for chemical burns, and oxidants(氧化劑) also cause chemical burns when they come into contact with skin.
A chemical burn isn’t like an ordinary burn. No matter how harmless the burn is, it should be brought to a doctor’s attention. A chemical burn treatment has to be quick and isn’t something to be ignored as the burn may make the injury worse and cause undue damage to the skin.
The first step to treat chemical burns is to remove the victim from the accident area and also get rid of any clothes that may come into contact with the chemical causing the burn. Take care not to come into contact with the chemical.
Using large volumes of cool running water, wash the skin to get rid of the substance from the injured area. It is best to keep the injured area under cool, running water for about 20 minutes or more.
Do not use ice-cold water as it may further damage the skin. Alternatively, it is best to apply the cold compress(敷布) wrapped in a soft cloth soaked in cold water. Using this method every one hour for the whole day proves beneficial for the chemical burn treatment.
If you notice any sign of blisters(水泡) that has covered more than 3 inches in diameter of the skin, then it is time to call for immediate medical help. Any occurrence of unusual signs also requires medical help.
In extreme cases, the blood pressure and the heart rate of the victim may be affected to a critical extent. So intravenous fluid is administered to normalize the disturbed functions of the body. Intravenous process may also be required to administer certain medicines so as to prevent any infection or to reduce pain.
During the recuperation(康復(fù)) from the chemical burn, drinking plenty of water and fluids will help keep the body well hydrated. This helps a speedy recovery.

My parents decided to make a trip to Beijing. When they told me their decisions, I was so delighted. But my mother became worried with her flower, for nobody would take care of it. Seeing the worrying expression on her face, suddenly I remembered that an article in a magazine I had read earlier. It’s suggested in the article that people used a piece of cloth to take care of their plants when you are away. On the day we set off, I found a piece of cloth and put one end of them into the basin, which is full of water, and the other end into the flower pot. Three days later, while we came back from Beijing, flower was still alive.

A man accused of failing to return more than 700 children’s books to five different libraries in the county was released from prison after a book publisher agreed to post his bond (保釋金) of $1,000. The publisher said, “There’s a story here. This is a man who loves books. He just can’t let go of them. He hasn’t stolen a single book. So what’s the crime? We think that Mr Barush has a story to tell. We plan to publish his story.”
When asked why he didn’t return the books, Mr Barush said, “Well, how could I? They became family to me. I was afraid to return them, because I knew that kids or dogs would get hold of these books and chew them up, throw them around, tear the pages, spill soda on them, get jam and jelly on them, and drown them in the toilet.”
He continued, “Books are people, too! They talk to you, they take care of you, and they enrich you with wisdom, humor and love. A book is a guest in my home. How could I kick it out? I repaired torn pages. I dusted them with a soft clean cloth. I turned their pages so they could breathe and get some fresh air.”
“Every week I reorganized them on their shelves so they could meet new friends. My books were HAPPY books. You could tell just by looking at them. Now they’re all back in the library, on the lower shelves, on the floors, at the mercy of all those runny-nosed kids. I can hear them calling me! I need to rescue them. Excuse me. I have to go now.”

In their book Time to Eat the Dog : The Real Guide to Sustainable Living, Robort and Breanda Vale say keeping a medium-sized dog has the same ecological impact as driving 10,000 km a year in a 4.6 liter Land Cruiser.
“We ‘re not actually saying it is time to eat the dog .We are just saying that we need to think about and know the ecological impact of some of the things we do and that we take for granted.”
Constructing and driving the jeep for a year requires 0.41hectares of land ,while growing and manufacturing a dog’s food takes about 0.84 hectares or 1.1hectares in the case of a large dog such as a German shepherd.
Convincing flesh-eating cats and dogs to go vegetarian for the sake of the planet is a non-starter,
The Vales say .Instead they recommend keeping greener, smaller, and more sustainable pets ,such as goldfish, chickens or rabbits.
The book ‘s playful title, and serious suggestion that pet animals may be usefully recycled, by being eaten by their owners or turned into pet food when they die ,may not appeal to animal fans .
Annoying as the idea may be, the question is valid given the planet’s growing population and limited resources, Robert vale said.
“Issues about sustainability are increasingly becoming things that are going to require us to make choices which are as difficult as eating your dog . It’s not just about changing your light bulbs or taking a cloth bag to the supermarket,” he said
It about much more challenging and difficult issues, he added . Once you see where cats and dogs fit in your overall balance of things , you might decide to have the cat but not also to have two cars and three bathrooms and be a meat eater yourself.
