Earthquake can strike without warning. But many injuries and deaths from this kind of natural disaster can be prevented if people follow these safety tips.

If you’re inside a building, stay there! One of the most dangerous things to do in an earthquake is to try to leave a building. 1. Drop to the ground. Get under an object(物體) that is not easily damaged. Hold on to it until the shaking stops. You can also get to a corner formed by two walls with your arms over your hand. If you’re in bed when the quake hits, stay there and protect your head with a pillow.

2. Don’t take shelter under a tree, streetlights, electric poles or tall buildings. If you are driving, stop as quickly as possible and stay away from overpasses(立交橋), buildings, bridges or anything else that might fall or collapse beneath you. 3.

If you are trapped in ruins, cover your mouth with a handkerchief or a piece of clothing. Use your cell phone to call for help if possible. Don’t shout. 4. Tap(敲) on a pipe or the wall so rescuers can find you.

Be prepared for aftershocks. 5. However, sometimes they even happen months later. Therefore, if you are not in a safe position(位置) after the first shock, you should move quickly but carefully to a safer place.

A.Don’t move about or kick up dust.

B.If you’re outside, go to an open space.

C.Shouting can cause you to breathe in dust.

D.Don’t park your car under a tree or any tall object.

E.Take a good hold of your cell phone in the building.

F.They can happen in the first hours after the earthquake.

G.Most injuries happen when people inside buildings try to go out.

1)Pearlcorder S702 $64

This simple model at the bottom of the Olympus range scored the most points for its excellent quality of recording. Background noise hardly affects the sound and recording from a pocket is perfectly possible, but it doesn’t turn off automatically.

Tape length: 30 minutes per side. Weight:240g.

2)Sony M9 $49.95

Small and very good looking, sony’s latest offering scored most for appearance. Sounds clear, but there is slight machine noise. The big control buttons are a great improvement on some of the complicated little controls on other tape-recorders. Doesn’t switch off automatically but a red light shows if the machine is still running.

Tape length: 60 minutes per side. Weight: 195g.

3)Sony M400 $115

Lots of little control buttons that make a noise and are difficult to use . Recording was good but machine noise lost points. Tape counter and automatic switch-off when tape has finished recording or rewinding are useful Tape length: 60 minutes per side. Weight: 230g.

4)Imperial OEM. MC $29.95

Cheap and simple compared with the rest, but recording was good as long as there was no background noise. Use only its own make of cassette. No light to show it is on; no fast forward button and the record button makes a loud noise.

Tape length: 30 minutes per side. Weight: 285g.

5)Philips 585 $80

Handsome and simple to use, but recording is very poor at more than the recommended distance of 5 cm-designed for dictation. No recording light. Tape length: 15 minutes per side. Weight: 220g.

Hi, Joe. I have read about your situation. This is common for everyone to have arguments or even quarrels with friends. So take it easy, and find the way out.

You may follow my suggestions. First, try to find out that who did wrong and cause the arguments. If it is you, be brave enough to say sorry for your friend. And unless it is your friend, you shouldn’t be too hard on him or her either. Instead, try to taking it easy and be kind. Second, give yourself and your friend some times to calm down, as it is not necessary to solve the arguments immediate.

Good luck, best wishes for you!

If you want to live longer and lower the risk of heart disease, a move to the mountains may help. Research by scientists in Greece shows that living in the mountains is good for the heart and longevity(長壽). People living at higher altitude(海拔) have lower possibility of dying from heart disease than those closer to sea level, even if they have factors that could increase their risk. "Residence in mountainous areas seems to have a ‘protective effect’ from heart disease," said Dr Nikos Baibas of the University of Athens. He and his colleagues suspect that the increased exercise from walking up mountainous area gives the heart a good workout and enables it to cope with lower levels of oxygen.

Researchers studied the health records and death rates of 1,150 Greeks who lived in three villages near Athens over 15 years. One village was 1,000 meters above sea level and the other two were in low-lying areas. Although men and women living in the mountainous village had higher blood pressure rates and other risk factors than people in the other villages, they had a lower rate of death from heart disease and other causes after a fifteen year follow-up." The contrast was more evident among men than among women," Baibas added in a report in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. Heart disease is one of the world's top killers. Smoking, high blood pressure, raised cholesterol levels, being overweight and a family history of the illness increase the possibility of developing the disease.
