Recently I attended a small exclusive (獨有的) and exclusively female financial (財政的) planning seminar (研討會). I met so many bright independent women doing interesting things in Parliament (英國國會), in business and in the professions (職業(yè)) that I was determined to turn over a new leaf and take control of my financial affairs. This, I was assured (確信) , would fill me with a new confidence. I would feel better.

My problem is Harold, the man-in-my-life. He thinks a sensible (合理的) distribution (分配) of responsibilities is when each partner works at what he or she does best. He thinks we are a liberated couple, likes our tree the way it is, and doesn’t see the need for new leaves. I watched as he sewed on a shirt button last night and thought, what a hypocrite (偽君子) he is. He’s quite comfortable sewing on the button, quite happy barefoot in the kitchen, happy, to see me lifting loads of manure to spread on our patch (小塊土地) or coping with the cat’s rat under our dining room table. But he is an old fashioned MCP(male chauvinist pig) when it comes to money.

“I will probably only be away three weeks, but I have arranged for Erhardt to pay any bills,” be said, and I froze. Erhardt is out lawyer and friend, but…“I am quite capable of paying our bills when you are away,” I said.

“Do not be childish. Erhardt and I share a mailbox. He fetches his mail, so he can fetch ours and pay the bills. Easy.”

“You mean I am not to worry my pretty little head about that,” I said. He beamed (微笑) and said, “Exactly,”missing the point entirely.

1.After attending the seminar, the author decided to ________.

[ ]

A.divorce her husband

B.talk with her husband

C.do some interesting

D.make a new interesting start

2.According to the author, her husband believes ________.

[ ]

A.they should co-operate on household duties

B.they should do what they are good at

C.she should do whatever she likes

D.he should share more housework

3.It’s implied, but not stated, that ________.

[ ]

A.the woman controls her financial affairs now

B.the woman’s husband is generous with his money

C.the woman can’t pay the bills at last

D.the woman’s husband misses her when he is away

4.The woman’s husband is ________.

[ ]

A.a(chǎn) liberated person

B.the owner of their home

C.selfish and greedy

D.a(chǎn) good listener

5.All of the following are true EXCEPT that ________.

[ ]

A.the woman attended a meeting for women to discuss financial plans

B.her husband still doesn’t allow her to control her financial affairs

C.the woman isn’t satisfied with her husband

D.her husband intends to change the family’s plans
