As a child grows out of being an infant and begins to notice and react to the world around him, you may find yourself wondering how you possibly impart (傳授) all of the things that he needs to become a responsible, respectful adult. A child who learns to respect all he meets not only receives respect from others, but also learns to respect himself as well. Here are some instructions.
Show your child respect. This is perhaps the best way to teach your child how to respect others. Listen to your child by giving him your full attention and he will learn to listen to you, understanding how important this is in communication.
The more you say “please” and “thank you” to your child, the more likely he will learn to use them with you and others. Politeness then becomes a normal part of any conversation.
Agree to disagree. Explain your decision so that he will understand your reasoning and expect respectful responses. Disagreeing with you doesn't equate to disobedience (違抗).
Control your impulse (沖動(dòng)) to overact. When a situation arises between you and your child that requires calmness, keep in mind that you are supposed to be modeling correct behaviour.
Praise, praise, praise! So much is focused on what a child does wrong and how to correct it that the accomplishments are not celebrated enough.
A. Teach manners by using polite requests and responses.
B. Try to remember that a child won't always agree with you.
C. Respect is necessary for a meaningful and successful life.
D. If he sees you lose your temper, he is more likely to respond that way in future.
E. A child may act like he pleases, but will respect being given limits.
F. When you see your child exhibit respectful behaviour, make sure he knows just how proud you are of him.
G. Setting a good example is the best way to start a child on the path to respect.

【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)(A、B、C、和D)中,選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
Standing in front of the “Chilkoot Trailhead” sign for 15 minutes, I didn't take one step. I was afraid of bears. That's what was keeping me from walking the trail alone. I had hiked through black-bear country back home in Colorado, but now I was in Alaska, home to the fierce brown grizzly bear.
Fortunately, a friendly couple arrived and asked me to take their picture. We started talking and soon were walking the trail together. I was relieved. Ron and Carol were from Alaska and they taught me how to stay safe in bear country.
I had finally started my hike along the famous Chilkoot Trail, where more than 115 years ago, thousands of gold miners had walked. I was writing a book about the Klondike Gold Rush, and I wanted to follow in the footsteps of the miners to know what it was really like.
Ron, Carol, and I walked through the forest. As I was looking around at the beautiful scenery in the forest, I tripped (絆倒) over a big tree root and injured my ankle (腳踝). Fortunately, my ankle felt better in the morning, and we followed the trail. We went to bed early that night because the following day would be the toughest hike of all.
At dawn, we started hiking up the steep (陡峭的), green valley. Icy glaciers covered the mountains above. Soon we were as high as the clouds and could see only 20 feet in front of us. Finally, we reached the top of the Chilkoot pass and saw a Canadian flag moving in the heavy wind. Hours later, we arrived at our campground.
The following morning, my ankle was feeling fine, and my fear of bears had mostly disappeared. I said good-bye to Ron and Carol and walked alone for the next two days. Without seeing any bears the entire trip, I finally arrived at Bennett Lake. I rode the old train down to the town of Skagway and checked into my hotel.
While relaxing in my comfortable bed in the hotel, I thought of the miners from the Klondike Gold Rush. When the miners reached Bennett Lake, they had to cut down trees, build boats, and travel 500 miles down dangerous rivers and lakes. Then, when they finally reached the goldfields, they had to start digging.
(1)Why did the author stand in front of the “Chilkoot Trailhead” sign for 15 minutes?
A.To wait for Ron and Carol.
B.Because he felt nervous.
C.Because he met a black bear.
D.To take photos of the beautiful scenery.
(2)The author hiked along the Chilkoot Trail to ________.
A.find inspiration for his writing
B.search Alaska for bears
C.enjoy the beauty of nature
D.look for gold
(3)When crossing the Chilkoot Trail, the author ________.
A.got help from two local miners
B.once tried to take a boat trip
C.hurt himself by accident
D.was almost killed by a brown bear
(4)What kind of feeling did the author mainly show in the last paragraph?
A.Joy.
B.Pity.
C.Worry.
D.Doubt.

【題目】Americans use the term “college students” to mean students either in colleges or universities. Not only that, Americans almost never say “going off to university” or “when I was in university.” That sounds British. 1

College, university: what’s the difference? 2 Both offer undergraduate degrees in the arts and sciences, for example. And both can help prepare young people to earn a living.

But many colleges do not offer graduate studies. Another difference is that universities are generally bigger. 3

Another place of higher education, especially in technical areas, is an institute, like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Yet even an institute of technology can offer a wide choice of programs and activities.

Modern universities developed from those of Europe in the Middle Ages. The word “university” came from the Latin universities, describing a group of people organized for a common purpose.4 In England, colleges were formed to provide students with places to live. Usually each group was studying the same thing. So college came to mean an area of study.

The first American universities divided their studies into a number of areas and called each one a college. This is still true. 5 For example, Harvard College is the undergraduate part of Harvard University.

Programs in higher learning can also be called schools, like a school of engineering or a medical school within a college or university. You know, learning all these terms is an education in itself.

A. A college can also be a part of a university.

B. There are more universities than colleges in the USA.

C. They offer more programs and do more research.

D. “College” came from collegium, a Latin word with a similar meaning.

E. Universities and colleges offer students different opportunities.

F. Instead, they say “going off to college” and “when I was in college.”

G. Colleges and universities have many things in common.
