When we look at the sky and see a bright light moving quickly across it or coming towards the earth, we talk about seeing a “shooting star” or a “falling star”. These moving lights are not, in fact, stars at all. They are small pieces of matter from outer space, which burn up as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere. The correct name of them is meteoroids. Any pieces that make it to the Earth’s surface without completely burning up are known as meteorites. A meteor is actually the name given to the light we see when a meteoroid is burning up.
When a meteorite hits the Earth at speeds between 11 and 72 kilometers a second, it can do amazing damage. A very large meteorite could knock the earth out of its orbit. If this happened, all life on Earth would probably become extinct(滅絕). The path we follow around the Sun would change and as a result the Earth would become either much hotter or much colder. This change in temperature would affect sea levels and the amount of water in rivers. There would either be huge floods, which would cover most of the land with water, or the oceans would dry up and there would be a drought, which means a long period of time without rain. Either way, nothing could survive. If a large meteorite landed in the sea it would almost certainly cause tsunamis, which would race towards the land, destroying everything in their paths.
Although it is unlikely the Earth will be struck by a meteorite large enough to do that kind of damage, there is evidence of fairly large meteorites hitting the Earth in the past. In 1908 a large area of forest in Tunguska, Siberia was destroyed by a meteorite that came apart just before it hit the ground. The moon, however, has about three billion craters隕石坑caused by meteorites impacting影響 its surface. The reason more meteorites have reached the surface of the moon than the surface of the Earth is that the moon does not have enough atmosphere for the meteorites to burn up in. some of the meteorites that have reached the Earth’s surface have done considerable damage. Some scientists believe it was a change of climate caused by meteorites hitting the Earth that resulted in the extinction of the dinosaurs and other large prehistoric animals.
Scientists are especially interested in meteorites because they contain information about the solar system. It is widely believed by scientists that most meteorites are produced by collisions(碰撞) between asteroids (small planets). These collisions probably happened many billions of years ago. This means the physical and chemical structure of a meteorite can give scientists information about the early days of the universe.

B
For all dinner tables, a glass of milk seems to be a must. At least it was when I was growing up. It is widely believed that milk is a must in building strong bones and teeth. There’s no doubt that dairy products, especially milk, are high in protein and calcium, and Vitamin D and Vitamin A are added to most milk products.
While it’s well known that our bones need calcium, some studies suggest that high calcium intake doesn’t necessarily lower a person’s risk for fractures(骨折). A Harvard study found that people who drank two or more glasses of milk had no greater protection from breaking a bone than those who drank a glass or less a week.
There is no doubt that we need calcium. Some anti-dairy supporters claim dairy products can lead to heart disease. Much of this claim is based on high-fat dairy products, like cheese and cream, which may indeed lead to some health problems. Some studies have linked high milk intakes with a risk of prostate(前列腺)cancer; this seems also to be caused by high-fat dairy products, but not by dairy products in general.
Although milk has always been regarded as the most important thing we need for our bones, one of the most important things in strengthening bones and reducing the risk of osteoporosis(骨質(zhì)疏松)is weight-bearing exercise, such as jogging, walking, and weight lifting.
Perhaps we should think of dairy products as less like a nutrient and more like a food. If you like it, eat it. If not, find something else to eat. Some claims may not be completely true. When I eat cream, I’m not thinking about calcium, protein, or any such thing. I’m thinking it is delicious.
60.What is the best title for this passage?
A. Milk: is it really necessary for children?    B. The disadvantages of drinking milk.
C. Milk: is it really good for the body?      D. Milk causes health problems.
61.   For people who want to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, we can infer that the writer may suggest that they ________.
A. avoid milk with Vitamin D and Vitamin A added
B. spend some time exercising
C. take in as much calcium as possible
D. drink more than two glasses of milk every day
62.   Based on the passage, we learn the writer may agree that ________.
A. milk is the most important thing that we need for our bones
B. children should not be permitted to eat cream
C. children should drink milk whether they like it or not
D. milk should be considered more like a food than a nutrient
63.   What can we learn from the passage?
A. Some dairy products may harm our health.
B. Milk has the highest level of protein of any food.
C. The writer seldom drank milk when he was young
D. People who drink milk every day are at a high risk of getting a heart disease.

New technology that can “ see ” through clothing and detect what ’ s underneath can now be used to scan crowds, making it a potentially effective tool to prevent terrorist attacks in public places.

The Thru Vision T5000 camera picks up Terahertz rays ,or T-rays, which are naturally sent out by all objects and can pass through clothes or even walls. The camera can then detect metallic and nonmetallic objects hidden under clothing on still or moving subjects without showing any body detail.

While similar technology is seen at airports around the world, the T5000 is designed to be used in large, open areas. With a range of 25 meters, the T5000 can screen people in public places, thus avoiding bottle-necks at border crossing or security checkpoints. It also means people can be screened without knowing it.

The technology develops from British astronomers ’ work in studying dying stars. Astronomers use T-ray cameras to see through dust and clouds in space. The company sees uses for its camera at other sites where political or business activities take place.

For privacy concerns,Thru Vision Chief Executive Clive Beattie said the image produced by the camera did not show detailed parts of the body. ” It's almost a shining light bulb(燈泡).“ Beattie said. "You don' t see the detail that people might be concerned about. “ In London' s busy Piccadilly Circus—which is already filled with closed -circuit surveillance (監(jiān)視)cameras— reaction to the new technology was mixed. Some said the camera was going too far and violating privacy, but others said they are willing to put safety before privacy concerns. “ There ’ s surveillance everywhere anyway, “ said one commuter. “I don' t think it’ s much of a difference. I don' t care that they can see through me because they can see me anyway.“

Some experts said the privacy violation of the camera was not worth the benefit. “ What we should consider is how much we want to lose our privacy in order to obtain a sort of national security,” said David Murakami Wood, director of the Surveillance Studies network, which deals with surveillance and privacy problems. “ In most cases this isn' t real security—it ’ s a sense of safety that has very little real effect. ”

What is the most probable purpose of the new invention?

A. Some agree to its use as it is new technology to protect privacy.

B. Some agree to its use because safety is the most important.

C. Some don' t agree to its use because it makes no difference.

D.Some people don' t care because they know little about it.

4..

What' s the main idea of the last paragraph?

A. Safety is more important than privacy.

B. T5000 is more beneficial than harmful.

C. T5000 does not really provide security.

D. It's not worth giving up privacy for safety.
