Here are some tips that will help you get rid of anxiety over being phoneless or reduce your risk of phone addiction.
Disable the Internet connection. Take up your courage to disable the Internet connection on your smartphone. Needless to say, you will save o lot of cash on it.
Find your passion. Find your dream job and you will leave your “best friend” at least for a while. If you have nothing to do at home, try a new hobby that will distract you from all those apps and social media.
Purchase an ordinary phone. No smartphones. No iphones. Remember those times when we used phones in emergency situations only or when we wanted to invite someone to a party.
Don't let the fear control you. Claim your joy. I can only speak for myself here, but I think that a smartphone is one of the worst inventions. It's useful and helpful at times, but it has ruined many happy lives and relationships. That's because we allow our phones to control us.
The fear of being phoneless is a serious problem. It's like drug or cigarette addiction. If you want to change your life, sell your expensive smartphone, buy an ordinary one, and become a sociable person. There are so many wonderful people that can bring joy into our life. Chatting online is great, but chatting in real life is best.
A. Free your mind.
B. Choose other electronic devices.
C. Keep your mind sharp and alert.
D. Beat your social butterfly wings.
E. Those who love their jobs never feel exhausted and bored.
F. Thus, you'll spend less time with your phone and more time in real life.
G. I bet some of you remember times when few people had a phone at home.

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容的理解,選擇正確答案。 Some people are lucky enough to be born with a good sense of direction and even if they have only visited a place once, they will be able to find it again years later.
I am one of those unfortunate people who have poor sense of direction and I may have visited a place time after time but I still get lost on my way there. When I was young I was so shy that I never dared ask complete strangers the way and so I used to wander round in circles and hope that by some chance I would get to the spot I was heading for.
I am no longer too shy to ask people for direction, but I often receive replies that puzzle me. Often people do not like to admit that they didn't know their hometown and will insist on telling you the way, even if they do not know it; others, who are anxious to prove that they know their hometown very well, will give you a long list of directions which you can not possibly hope to remember, and still others do not seem to be able to tell between their left and their right and you find in the end that you are going in the opposite direction to that in which you should be going.
If anyone ever asks me the way to somewhere, I always tell them I am a stranger to the town in order to avoid giving them wrong direction but even this can have embarrassing results.
Once I was on my way to work when I was stopped by a man who asked me if I would direct him the way to the Sunlight Building. I gave my usual reply, but I had not walked on a few steps when I realized that he had asked for directions to my office building. However, at this point, I decide it was too late to turn back and search for him out of the crowd behind me as I was going to meet with someone at the office and I did not want to keep him waiting.
Imagine my embarrassment when my secretary showed in the very man who had asked for directions of my office and his astonishment when he recognized me as the person he had asked.
(1)What is the writer going to do when someone asks him for direction?
A.He will direct the right way to the person willingly.
B.He will reply to it by the means of being a stranger to the town.
C.He will give the very person long list of direction.
D.He is going to show the man an opposite direction.
(2)Why did the writer consider himself to be an unlucky dog?
A.Because of his poor sense of direction.
B.Because he always forgot the way to home.
C.Because he did not have any friend.
D.Because he used to be shy and dared not ask others the way.
(3)How did the visitor feel when he was showed into the very room?
A.He felt strange.
B.He felt embarrassed.
C.He felt very sad.
D.He felt astonished.

【題目】根據(jù)短文理解,選擇正確答案。
I am a volunteer. I set out to help clean up the beach after a violent storm a year ago. The sight I saw was heartbreaking. The broken houses seemed to be crying. I couldn't describe how I felt. But something special among the debris (廢墟) turned my day around.
I joined a club to clean up the beach after the storm last November. As I removed the debris from the beach, I noticed an object with shiny buttons in the wet sand. It was a jacket, and I was excited since Halloween(萬圣節(jié)) was coming and I thought I had found a great costume(戲服). After picking it up, I was able to see that the jacket was from West Point (西點軍校), the United States Military Academy, and it had the name “deGavre” written inside. I realized the jacket might be important to someone. I decided to find the jacket's owner and return it.
I called the West Point Museum, considering that if the family couldn't be found, the jacket should go there. The museum connected me with Kim McDermott, Director of Communications for the Academy's Association of Graduates. Kim soon ensured that the jacket had belonged to Chester Braddock deGavre, who was a 1933 graduate and a war hero, but passed away in 1993.
I sent Kim a photo of the jacket and she posted it to the West Point Association of Graduates Facebook Page, asking if anyone could help us find the family. In less than two hours, someone had found and called the hero's wife, Teresa. Soon I started to receive personal messages from members of the deGavre family, their friends and others who were touched by the story and they found me on Facebook.
Finding Chester deGavre's jacket and connecting to his family with the help of Facebook have been so meaningful to me. I've formed a bond(紐帶) with amazing people I might have never met.
(1)Seeing the sight(景象) after the storm, the author felt very ________.

B.surprised
C.nervous

B.He could wear it for Halloween.
C.He should return it to West Point.
D.He could send it to others for free.
(3)The author called the West Point Museum because he thought ________.
A.the jacket was made there
B.the jacket's owner worked there
C.the workers there needed the jacket

A.happened to be the owner of the jacket
B.was a student graduating from West Point
C.could find a record of the graduates
D.was a family member of the author

【題目】根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容的理解, 選擇正確答案。 Among all the fast growing science and technology, the research of human genes, or biological engineering as people call it, is drawing more and more attention now. Sometimes it is a hot topic discussed by people.
The greatest thing that gene technology can do is to cure serious diseases that doctors at present can almost do nothing with, such as cancer and heart disease. Every year, millions of people are murdered by these two killers. And to date, doctors have not found an effective way to cure them. But if the gene technology is applied, not only these two diseases can be cured completely, bringing happiness and more living days to the patients, but also the great amount of money people spend on curing their diseases can be saved, therefore it benefits the economy as well. In addition, human life span (壽命) can be prolonged.
Gene technology can help people to give birth to more healthy and clever children. Some families, with the English imperial (皇家的) family being a good example, have hereditary diseases. This means their children will for sure have the family disease, which is a great trouble for these families. In the past, doctors could do nothing about hereditary diseases. But gene technology can solve this problem perfectly. The scientist just need to find the wrong gene and correct it, and a healthy child will be born.
Some people are worrying that the gene research can be used to manufacture human beings in large quantities. In the past few years, scientists have succeeded in cloning a sheep, therefore these people predict that human babies would soon be cloned. But I believe cloned babies will not come out in large quantities, for most couples in the world can have babies in very normal way. Of course, the government must take care to control gene technology.
(1)What does "them" in the second paragraph refer to?
A.People with cancer or heart disease.
B.Millions of people with serious diseases.
C.Some diseases doctors can do nothing with.
D.The two illnesses of cancer and heart disease
(2)What can gene technology do according to paragraph three?
A.It can help the English imperial family out.
B.It can be used to clone human babies.
C.It can help people to give birth of a baby.
D.It is likely to treat hereditary diseases.
(3)What are people worried about according to the passage?
A.Human babies may be cloned in a large scale.
B.Healthy human babies will soon be cloned.
C.Scientists may well find the wrong genes.
D.The government may not control gene techs.
(4)This passage is mainly written to _________________.
A.show gene technology will benefit people
B.show gene technology will do harm as well
C.tell that gene technology is a hot topic
D.tell that gene technology is growing fast
