【題目】閱讀下列短文,從每題所給的四個(gè)選項(xiàng)中(A, B, C, D), 選出最佳選項(xiàng)。
A
There is a scene in the movie The Descendants and it went something like this ---George Clooney's character Matt King has a daughter who may be 9 or 10. She said something bad to a girl at her school that made her cry. The mother of that girl made Matt and his daughter come to their house to apologize. “Sorry,” said his daughter very casually. She was clearly not sorry for her actions and the girl's mother complained she didn't take her apology seriously. Matt shrugged(聳) his shoulders. What was he supposed to do? His daughter apologized as asked. He couldn't make her mean her words.
I always think of this story when my daughter is asked by other adults to apologize for her wrong doings. I know my daughter is being taught to say “sorry” with all the best intentions. They are teaching her to be polite. But she is apologizing because she is being forced to please the adult or to avert punishment.
This situation has happened on a few occasions and it really bothers me. Here are three reasons why I don't think it's a good idea to teach children to say sorry: 1. My daughter is being taught to say things that are not from her heart. 2. She is being taught insincerity(不真誠) is valued over genuineness. 3. She is being taught she needs to please others to be loved.
These messages make me uncomfortable and I will not ask my children to apol ogize. Instead, this is what I think people should teach children:
teach them behavior that is acceptable and to practice positive behavior.
teach them how their actions affect others.
give them space to think about the situation and ask them to suggest ways to make the situation better.
help them make healthy choices
lead by example and show them how to fix wrong doings
(1)The story in Paragraph 1 mainly shows that ________.
A.sometimes people don't take their apology seriously
B.The Descendants is a good film that is worth seeing
C.forcing a child to apologize may not get expected results
D.parents should punish their children for their mistakes
(2)What does the underlined word “avert” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Suffer.
B.Avoid.
C.Deserve.
D.Get.
(3)From Paragraph 3 we can learn that the author ________.
A.doesn't like apologizing to other people
B.doesn't think apologizing is important to children
C.doesn't think her daughter has done anything wrong
D.thinks forcing a child to apologize has disadvantages
(4)According to the last paragraph, the author suggests people should ________.
A.teach children how to become independent
B.teach children how to apologize in the correct way
C.teach children to behave well instead of forcing them
D.teach children how to set a good example to others
【答案】
(1)C
(2)B
(3)D
(4)C
【解析】本文有一個(gè)小片段開始,來反思我們教育孩子所缺少的東西,建議人們應(yīng)該好好教育孩子,而不是讓他們犯了錯誤后去道歉。(1)C推理判斷題。根據(jù)第一段,She was clear ly not sorry for her actions and the girl's mother complained she didn't take her apology seriously,“對不起”,她的女兒很隨便地說。她顯然不是為自己的行為道歉,而女孩的母親卻抱怨說她沒有認(rèn)真對待自己的道歉?芍獜(qiáng)迫孩子道歉沒有得到所希望的結(jié)果,故選C。
(2)B推理判斷題。根據(jù)But she is apologizing because she is being forced to please the adult or to avert punishment.可知有時(shí)候小孩子道歉是為了讓大人高興或是為了逃避懲罰,”avert”意為”避免”,故選B.
(3)D細(xì)節(jié)理解題。根據(jù)1. My daughter is being taught to say things that are not from her heart. 2. She is being taught insincerity(不真誠) is valued over genuineness. 3. She is being taught she needs to please others to be loved.意為“1.我的女兒被教導(dǎo)要說的事情,不是從她的內(nèi)心。2.她正在教巍山遠(yuǎn)大于真實(shí)性3.她在教她需要取悅別人的愛”可知這些都是缺點(diǎn),故選D。
(4)C主旨大意題。根據(jù)These messages make me uncomfortable and I will not ask my children to apol ogize. Instead, this is what I think people should teach children,作者建議人們應(yīng)該好好教育孩子,而不是他們犯了錯誤后去道歉。故選C。

【題目】Dictionaries are not closed books. There is still plenty of room for more words in these great vocabulary authorities.
Dictionaries are not closed books. There is still plenty of room for more words in these great vocabulary authorities. New words are continually being created and added to our language. And many of today's word experts can credit a famous mathematician with the creation of the method by which they develop many new words. The mathematician was an Englishman named Charles L. Dodgson. In addition to working with figures, Dodgson wrote books. His imaginative stories and poems have made Dodgson beloved to generations of readers. We know him, however, not by the name of Dodgson but by his pen name, Lewis Carroll.
Lewis Carroll has delighted countless readers, young and old, with Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, and numerous poems. In these works, Carroll developed dozens of nonsensical words such as "chortle" and "galumph". Many of these words are combined naturally with more common words in the English language. Carroll referred to his made-up words as "portmanteau" words, named after a kind of leather suitcase that opens into two compartments. The name was well suited, because most of Carroll's words had two compartments. Rather than being entirely fabricated(虛構(gòu)), they were usually made from the combined parts of two different words. A "snark", for example, clearly came from a snake and a shark.
Although Carroll died long ago, his technique continues to be used today. We clearly see his influence in such words as smog, brunch, and guesstimate.

【題目】Patients trust health professionals as a source of advice on behavior change. However, many health professionals dodge giving advice on that. They find traditional behavior change strategies (方法) time-consuming to explain. Besides, it’s difficult for the patient to achieve. Furthermore, even when patients successfully start the recommended changes, the gains are often short-lived because few of the traditional behavior change strategies have built-in mecha-nisms for maintenance (保持).
Meanwhile, brief advice is usually based on advising patients on what to change and why (for example, reducing fat intake lo reduce the risk of heart attack). Psychologically, such advice can be followed only if conscious motivation is engaged. However, the effects are typically short-Jived because motivation and attention will decline. Brief advice on how to change, engaging automatic processes, may offer a valuable alternative with potential for long-term influence— habit.
Within psychology, we define “habits” as actions that are caused automatically in response to reminders. These reminders have been associated with performances. For example, automatically washing hands after using the toilet. Decades of psychological research consistently show that mere repetition of a simple action in a consistent context leads to the action being activated upon .following exposure to those contextual cues (環(huán)境暗示). Once starting of the action goes to outside reminders, dependence on conscious attention or motivational processes is reduced. Therefore habits are likely to remain even after conscious motivation or interest disappears.
【1】Which word can best replace the underlined word “dodge” in Paragraph 1?
A. Risk. B. Avoid.
C. Appreciate. D. Admit.
【2】What plays the key role in patients’ taking advice?
A. Reasons to change. B. Ways to change.
C. Increasing attention. D. Intended motivation.
【3】What may help to keep habits after interest disappears?
A. Outside reminders. B. Mere repetition.
C. Conscious attention. D. Brief advice.
【4】What is the passage mainly about?
A. Motivation to form habits. B. Conflicts between patients and professionals.
C. Habits to change behavior. D. Advice from professionals to patients.
