In general, people talk about two groups of colors: warm colors and cool colors. Researchers in psychology think that there are also two groups of people: people who prefer warm colors and people who prefer cool colors.

The warm colors are red, orange and yellow. Where there are warm colors and a lot of light, people usually want to be active. People think that red, for example, is exciting. Sociable people, those who like to be with others, like red. The cool colors are green, blue and violet. These colors, unlike warm colors, are relaxing. Where there are cool colors, people are usually quiet. People who like to spend time alone often prefer blue.

Red may be exciting, but one researcher says that time seems to pass more slowly in a room with warm colors than in a room with cool colors. He suggests that a warm color, such as red or orange is a good color for a living room or restaurant. People who are relaxing or eating do not want time to pass quickly. Cool colors are better for offices or factories if the people who are working there want time to pass quickly.

Researchers do not know why people think some colors are warm and other colors are cool. How ever, almost everyone agrees that red, orange, and yellow are warm and that green, blue, and violet are cool. Perhaps warm colors remind people of warm days and the cool colors remind them of cool days. Because in the north the sun is higher during summer, the hot summer sunlight appears yellow.

Which of the following colors belong to cool colors?

A.Yellow, green. B.Blue, violet.

C.Black, blue. D.Brown, white.

Which of the following statements is not true?

A.Sociable people like warm colors.

B.Warm colors can make people excited.

C.People who like to be with others don't like red.

D.Where there are warm colors, people want to be active.

Which is the right color for different rooms?

A.Red or orange for offices. B.Orange for dining-rooms.

C.Blue for bedrooms. D.Red for studies.

What is the main idea of the last paragraph?

A.It shows the reason why people think some colors are warm and others are cool.

B. Warm colors remind people of warm days.

C.Cool colors remind people of cool days.

D.People have an agreeable opinion of warm colors and cool colors.

Do you like sitting on the edge of your seat? How about falling off it laughing? If so, "Rush Hour 1" is the perfect movie for you. Although it didn’t get the best reviews, it is perfect for those who like a good comedy.

Just as in the first "Rush Hour," Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and LAPD Detective James Carter (Chris Tucker) are partners. This time, they are on vacation in China and Carter is looking for a good time, but they are on the job again when a bombing at the American Embassy kills two customs agents. Lee and Carter go to look for a suspect named Ricky Tan. For Lee this is a serious case because Tan killed his father. Will Carter and Lee be able to capture Tan?

Another reason to see this movie perhaps is for the thrilling action, which includes karate fights with Jackie Chan. One of my favorite scenes shows Carter and Lee in a massage parlor (店堂) when everything goes crazy.

"Rush Hour 2" is, of course, really funny with Chris Tucker in the lead role. Chan and Tucker have many clever jokes and remarks. Some of the jokes aren’t enjoyed by the critics, but most will find them entertaining.

With no doubt, the movie was great. I was filled with anxiety about what was going to happen next. Many critics say that sequels (續(xù)集) are not as good as the original but this one is great. I especially enjoyed it because the special effects are minimal so everything looks as though it actually happened. The lighting effect is great as well as the sound.

So, if you are looking for a great action movie that leaves you at the edge of your seat and makes you laugh quite a bit, you should rush to see “Rush Hour 2.”

1.According to the author, "Rush Hour 2" is a perfect movie particularly ______.

A.full of special effects

B.with the best actors

C.full of humors

D.with great lights

2.In "Rush Hour 2”, the two leading roles are on duty again because ______.

A.their vocation in China is limited to a short term

B.inspector Lee doesn’t want to have a good time

C.the American Embassy in China was attacked

D.a(chǎn) suspect named Ricky Tan killed Lee’s father

3.In Rush Hour series, the following are usually included EXCEPT _____.

A.thrilling actions

B.maximal special effects

C.karate fights

D.clever jokes and remarks

4.If "Rush Hour 3" is shot, what kind of the movie will it be? ______.

A.Stage tragedy

B.Action movie

C.Soap opera

D.Situational comedy

It happened to me recently that I was telling someone how much I had enjoyed reading Barack Obama’s Dreams From My Father and how it had changed my views of the current US President. The person I was talking to agreed with me that it was, in his words,“a wonderfully written book .”However, he then proceeded  to talk about Mr Obama in a way that suggested he had no idea of his background at all. I sensed that I was talking to a book liar.

And it seems that he is not the only one. Clearly two thirds of people have lied about reading a book which they haven’t . In The World Book Day survey, Dreams From My Father is at number 9. The survey lists top ten books, and various authors, which people have lied about reading. As I’m not one to lie too often, I’ll admit here and now that I haven’t read the entire ten books. But I am pleased to say that I have read the book at number one, George Orwell’s 1984. I think it’s absolutely outstanding.

Asked why they lied, the most common reason was to impress someone they were speaking to . This could be difficult if the conversation became more in-depth !

The World Book Day survey also has some other interesting information in it. It shows that many people lie about having read classical works by Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Charles Dickens and so on. But when asked which authors they actually enjoy, they named JK Rowling, Jilly Cooper, and Stephen King (ah, the big sellers, in other words). Forty-one percent of people asked admitted they turned to the back of the book to read the end before finishing the story.

So which books have you lied about reading—if any—and which is your favourite?

1.The main reason why people lie about reading is to

A.make fun of the listener     B.impress the listener

C.please the listener          D.interest the listener

2.The underlined word“proceeded”in the passage probably means“         ”

A.wanted   B.happened    C.continued    D.stopped

3.What does The World Book Day survey show?

A.Nearly half of the people surveryed didn’t read through a whole classical book.

B.People don’t like Dreams From My Father and George Orwell’s 1984

C.Few people lie about having read classical works by Jane Austen.

D.People usually enjoy reading books by Charles Dickens.

4.What is the best title for the passage?

A.Are You A Book Liar?    B.Readers Are All Liars

C.World Book Day        D.Dreams From My Father,

Today, in many high schools, teaching is now a technical miracle of computer labs, digital cameras, DVD players and laptops. Teachers can e-mail parents, post messages for students on online bulletin(公告,告示) boards, and take attendance with a quick movement of a mouse.

Even though we are now living in the digital age, the basic and most important element of education has not changed. Most students still need that one-on-one, teacher-student relationship to learn and to succeed. Teenagers need instruction in English, math or history, but they also want personal advice and encouragement. Kids talk with me about their families, their weekend plans, their favorite TV shows and their relationship problems. In my English and journalism classes, we talk about Shakespeare and persuasive(富有哲理的) essays, but we also discuss college basketball, the war in Iraq and career choices. Students show me pictures of their rebuilt cars, their family vacations, and their newborn baby brothers. This personal connection is the necessary link between teachers and students that no amount of technology can improve upon or replace.

A few years ago I had a student in sophomore English who was struggling with my class and with school in general. Although he was a humorous young man who liked to joke around, I knew his family life was far from ideal. Whenever I approached him about missing homework or low test grades, he always had the same reply, “It doesn't matter because I'm quitting school anyway.” Even though he always said this in a half-teasing way, I knew he needed to hear my different opinion and my “value of a high school education” lecture. He needed to hear this speech from me. After he left my class, he struggled through the next two years of school. But, he did finally graduate because we kept telling him to hang in there. We’d cared about him finishing school.

Recently, I saw this former student working at a local Italian restaurant. I told him again how proud I was of him. He said that he was hoping to go back to school to become a certified electrician. I encouraged him to get that training.

Students rely on compassionate teachers to guide, to tutor, to listen, to laugh and to cry with them. Teachers provide the most important link in the educational process—the human one.

1.The first paragraph mainly talks about _____________.

  A. the variety of modern teaching methods.

  B. the wide use of modern technology in education

  C. the importance of teacher-parent relationship.

  D. the importance of using modern technology.

2.The underlined word “ compassionate” in Para 5 means ____________.

  A. ambitious       B. knowledgeable     C. sympathetic       D. generous

3. According to the text, the most important element in education is _________.

  A. teachers’ good instruction       B. advanced technology

  C. teachers’ encouragement        D. personal connection

4.The author states his view of education by __________.

  A. example     B. description     C. figure       D. comparison
