Winter is dangerous for drivers because it is so difficult to know what is going to happen and accidents take place easily. Bad weather can be waiting to meet you. Ice might be hiding under the snow, waiting to send you off the road. The car coming towards you might suddenly move across the road. Here are two rules for driving safely on icy roads:
Rule Number One is to drive smoothly. Irregular movements can make a car very difficult to manage. So each time you turn the wheel, touch the brake or increase your speed, you must be as gently and slow as possible. Just imagine you are driving with a full cup of hot coffee on the seat next to you. You should drive carefully enough in order that you would not get the coffee out of the cup.
Rule Number Two is to pay attention to what might happen. The more ice there is, the farther you have to look down the road. Test how long it takes to stop by gently braking. Remember that you may be driving more quickly than you think. Generally speaking, allow double your normal stopping distance when the road is wet, three times this distance on snow, and even more on ice. Try to stay in control of your car at all times, or you will get into trouble.
66. Which of the following can be used to explain why driving in winter is very dangerous?
A. People drive more gently and slowly.
B. People drive three times faster than usual.
C. Unexpected things may often take place.
D. Drivers usually have too much coffee.
67. What is the main idea of Rule Number One?
A. To increase the driving speed.
B. To drive smoothly on icy roads.
C. To manage your car irregularly.
D. To drive fast on snowy roads.
68. Why does the writer want to take an example “a full cup of hot coffee” in Paragraph 2?
A. Because drinks are necessary for drivers.
B. Because he wants to remind drivers to take a rest.
C. To enjoy the driving with a cup of coffee.
D. To explain the importance of careful and smooth driving.
69. Which of the following is the best title for the passage?
A.Traffic Accidents. B. Careless Driving.
C. Bad Weather. D. Winter Driving.

I fell in love with the minister's son the winter I turned fourteen. He was not Chinese. For Christmas I prayed for the boy, Robert. When I found out that my parents had invited the minister's family over for Christmas Eve dinner, I cried in panic. What would Robert think of our shabby Chinese Christmas? What would he think of our noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners?
On Christmas Eve, my mother created abundant Chinese food. And then they arrived—the minister's family and all my relatives. Robert greeted hello, and I pretended he was not worthy of existence.
Dinner threw me deeper into disappointment. My relatives licked (舔) the ends of their chopsticks and reached across the table. Robert and his family waited patiently for a large plate to be passed to them. My relatives murmured with pleasure when my mother brought out the whole steamed fish. Robert made a face. Then my father reached his chopsticks just below the fish eye and picked out the soft meat. “Amy, your favorite.”he said, offering me the tender fish cheek. I wanted to disappear.
At the end of the meal, my father leaned back and burped(打嗝) loudly, thanking my mother for her fine cooking. “It's a polite Chinese custom to show you are satisfied.”explained my father to our astonished guests. Robert was looking down at his plate with a reddish face. The minister managed to bring up a quiet burp. I was shocked into silence for the rest of the night.
After everyone had gone,my mother said to me,“You want to be the same as American girls on the outside.”She handed me an early gift.It was a miniskirt.“But inside you must always be Chinese. You must be proud that you are different.Your only shame is to have shame.”
It was not until years later that I was able to fully appreciate her lesson and the purpose behind her particular menu. For Christmas Eve that year, she had chosen excellent Chinese food.
64. When the writer found out the minister's family would come for Christmas Eve dinner, she cried mainly because ________.
A. she worried about their shabby Chinese Christmas
B. she worried about their Chinese relatives lacking American manners
C. she worried about meeting the minister's family
D. she worried about being laughed at
65.What does “he was not worthy of existence” probably mean? It means________.
A. the writer was not interested in his existence
B. he was worthless
C. he should not exist
D. the writer expected his coming
66.The dinner threw the writer deeper into disappointment mainly because________.
A. her relatives licked the ends of their chopsticks
B. her father reached his chopsticks to pick fish for her
C. her father leaned back and burped loudly
D. she childishly expected all of them to act in the same way as Americans at table
67.We can infer from the passage that ________.
A. the writer appreciated her mother's lesson years later
B. the writer must be proud that she is different
C. the mother prepared to show Chinese different food culture
D. the minister's family really enjoyed the food

Don't you just love ice skating every winter? I am sure, that since winter is approaching, your skates are set to come out, just waiting to be used. Impress your friends with your new trick on how to ice-skate backwards with the help of these tips. Skating backwards on ice is a bit difficult but once you master the basic, there' s nothing like it. Follow the steps given below and you will be able to skate backwards in no time.
Stand Straight
The first thing that you need to do is, stand straight. If you feel that you are falling backwards, then just put your chin up and slightly bend your knees. Don't worry; this happens to all.
Confidence is What You Need
The most important step while learning how to skate backwards, is having enough confidence in yourself and in what you are doing. How can you achieve this? By practice. Just practice rolling backwards down a gentle slope every single day or just by pushing off from a wall or something of that sort. But before you do that, make sure that the place where you are practicing is free from any kind of debris(碎片)because otherwise, you could end up in the hospital due to some accident. While going backwards, just get used to the feeling of moving backwards. One of the important ice skating tips and techniques is that if you feel that you are losing your balance, then scissor (做剪式運動) your skates. Keep practicing this till you are confident about it.
Maintain Speed
Confident now? Great! Now the next step is to maintain your speed. While rolling in a straight line with one skate, with the other try sculling (滑漿), that is, keep pushing yourself backwards with an outwards stroke (滑動). Now bring the skate which you were using to scull, and then again, repeat the same process. Make sure that you put most of your weight on the skate which is moving straight and not the one with which you are sculling. Now, try the same thing using the other foot. Again keep doing this till you are confident enough.
Increase Your Speed Now
Once you are confident that you can scull with either foot, the next thing that you have to do is increase your speed. Try some of your own tricks now. Scull with either foot or with both at the same time.
Scull and Be Aware
While you keep one foot straight, keep sculling with the other. You can do that simultaneously with both feet. Concentrate on what you are doing but don't get so involved that you don't see where you are going. If you are not watching your back, you might just bang against something or someone.
1.According to the text, confidence comes from ________ .
A. constant exercise B. strict coaches C. high speed D. good techniques
2.Which is the right order of ice-skating backwards?
a. Increasing your speed. b .Being able to scull with one foot.
c. Being about to stand straight. d. Trying some different tricks.
A. c→a→d→b B. c→b→d→a C. c→b→a→d D. a→c→b→d
3. In the last paragraph the author mainly wants to express _________.
A. one must be brave to learn to ice-skate backwards
B. skating and keeping cautious are both important
C. it’s difficult to concentrate when ice-skating backwards
D. it' s a common thing to hit someone when ice skating backwards
