In 60 years, the Queen has never put a foot wrong in public. And for the last 24 of them, it turns out she’s had a secret weapon — the nice Ella Slack. The former BBC manager has, unknown to anyone except a handful of key advisers, spent the last quarter of a century acting as the Queen’s official stand-in at rehearsals (排練) for royal events. The 69-year-old has never accepted a penny for her royal service, considering it “a pleasure and an honour” to ensure that everything runs smoothly for the Queen. “How many people in the world have had a chance to sit in a royal landau (馬車) or walk onto the dais (講臺) at Windsor Castle even before the Queen has done so?” she said.

A producer asked her if she could stand in for the Queen to check camera angles at a rehearsal — and her second career was born.

When we were done, I moved him over closer to the cubbies and he got so excited that he didn't disturb for an hour, while I made dinner and cleaned up! Even Elliott played happily for a few hours. It was a dream come true! And I got to know that my lack of happy children was because of my desire for a toy—free living room.

Check if it is an old past emotion and if it is really still relevant or applicable in your life today. And that does not mean you have to get rid of whatever makes you feel bad (many times, you simply can't). You need to learn to accept yourself, your past, your circumstances as they are, without necessarily thinking of them as “bad”.

Identify your successes

Everyone is good at something, so discover the things at which you do extremely well, then focus on your talents. Give yourself permission to be proud of them. Give yourself credit for your successes. Inferiority (自卑) is a state of mind in which you've declared yourself a victim. Do not allow yourself to be victimized.

Be Positive

Avoid self-pity, or the pity and sympathy of others. Never allow others to make you feel inferior—they can only do so if you let them. “You get excited about everything because you were born in the summer!” Does that sound like something your grandparents used to say to you?

Of course, you’re a learned person who doesn’t believe in such things. But scientists now say that it might not all be superstition (迷信).

Researchers from Semmelweis University in Hungary recently asked 366 university students to fill out a questionnaire. The answers given included things like “My mood often changes for no reason”, “I love to deal with new projects, even if they’re risky ”, and “I complain a lot”. They then compared students’ answers to their birthdays. They found that the season of your birth may have some effect on who you are.

Researchers found that people born in the summer were more likely to quickly change between sad and happy emotions. People born in the winter, however, were less likely to become angry. Spring birthdays were more likely to make people overly positive, while people born in autumn were less likely to be depressive (憂郁的).

So, why could the seasons cause such differences?

“Biochemical studies have shown that the season in which you are born affects some monoamine neurotransmitters (單胺類神經(jīng)遞質(zhì)),” lead researcher Xenia Gonda said in a written statement. “This led us to believe that birth season may have a longer-lasting effect.”

Monoamine neurotransmitters are given off from neurones (神經(jīng)元細胞). They affect our emotions. So the researchers believe they might have an effect on the development of our personalities.

Different seasons also have different food and nutrients (養(yǎng)分) to offer. In addition, mothers usually get more physical exercise and enjoy more sunlight in warm seasons than in cold seasons. All these are “environmental factors ” which may influence a person’s personality, said Gonda.

But the research only included a survey and didn’t follow participants over time. More research is needed before a final answer can be given on the connection between season and personality.

Don’t worry, though. Even if the connection is proven, it won’t mean that your birth month completely decides who you are. Being happy or sad is up to you.
