【題目】 Mother’s Day is a time for children, young and old, to show how much they appreciate their mothers. Mother’s Day started in the US, where it’s celebrated on the second Sunday in May. 1

It became an official US holiday in 1915. It was the result of the love of one girl, Anna Jarvis of West Virginia.2 As a girl, Anna helped her mother take care of the garden and filled it with white carnations (康乃馨), her mother’s favorite flower.

When Mrs. Jarvis died on May 5, 1905, Anna was determined to honor her. 3 On the same Sunday in Philadelphia, a minister honored Mrs. Jarvis and all mothers with a special Mother’s Day service. Anna Jarvis began writing to the government, asking them to set aside a day to honor all mothers. In 1910, the governor of West Virginia made the second Sunday in May Mother’s Day.

4 Other children give their mothers gifts that they’ve made themselves or bought from stores. Adults give their mothers red carnations, the official Mother’s Day flower. White carnations are placed on the graves of mothers who are no longer alive.

Mother’s Day is now celebrated in more than 40 countries, including Denmark, Finland, Italy, and Australia. 5 In France, Mother’s Day is the last Sunday in May. A cake in the shape of flowers is presented to mothers at a family dinner.

A.So why is it celebrated on different dates?

B.But do you know the origin of Mother’s Day?

C.Anna’s mother provided great support for the family.

D.But not all countries celebrate Mother’s Day at the same time.

E.The second Sunday in May was the Sunday closest to her mother’s death.

F.She asked the minister of her church to hold a special service in honor of her mother.

G.On the morning of Mother’s Day, some American children serve their mothers breakfast in bed.

Few people I know seem to have much desire or time to cook. Making Chinese 1(dish) is seen as especially troublesome. Many westerners 2 come to China cook much less than in their own countries once they realize how cheap 3 can be to eat out. I still remember 4 (visit) a friend who’d lived here for five years and I 5(shock) when I learnt she hadn’t cooked once in all that time.

While regularly eating out seems to 6(become) common for many young people in recent years, it’s not without a cost. The obvious one is money; eating out once or twice a week may be 7(afford) but doing this most days adds up. There could be an even 8 (high) cost on your health. Researchers have found that there is a direct link between the increase in food eaten outside the home and the rise in 9(weigh) problems.

If you are not going to suffer this problem, then I suggest that the next time you go to your mum’s home 10 dinner, get a few cooking tips from her. Cooking food can be fun. You might also begin to notice the effects not only on your health but in your pocket.

Do you prefer to travel by plane or by train? To my opinion, there are advantages and disadvantages travelling both by plane and by train. Travel by plane is time-saving, comfortably, and you can have a good rest on the trip, but it is too expensive. Unless you travel by train, it is not expensive and quite safety and you can appreciate the beautiful scenery on both sides of the railway. However, it was too crowded and time-wasting, and we can take a good rest. So you can see every coin have two sides. You’d better to choose either of them depend on your own interest and economy.

科目:高中英語(yǔ) 來(lái)源: 題型:

【題目】 Hi, I’m Neil Harbisso. I come from a place where the sky is always grey, where flowers are always grey, and where television is still in black and white.

I actually come from a world where color doesn’t exist. I was born with achromatopsia. I was born completely color-blind. So I’ve never seen color, and don’t know what it looks like. But since the age of 21, I can hear color thanks to a magic electronic eye called “eyeborg”: a color sensor between my eyes connected to a chip(芯片) installed at the back of my head that transforms color frequencies into sound frequencies that I hear through my bone.

I’ve had the electronic eye permanently attached to my head and I’ve been listening to colors nonstop since 2004. So I find it completely normal now to hear colors all the time.

Since I started to hear color, my life has changed significantly. Art galleries have become concert halls. I can hear a Picasso. And supermarkets have become like night clubs. I love how they sound.

My sense of beauty has changed. Someone might look very beautiful but sound terrible, and someone might sound very harmonious but look awful. So I find it really exciting to create sound portraits(畫(huà)像) of people. Instead of drawing the shape of someone’s face I write down the different notes I hear when I look at them, and then I send them an mp3 of their face. Each face sounds different. I can even give face concerts now, concerts where I play the audience’s faces. The good thing about doing this is that if the concert doesn’t sound good, it’s their fault.

I also found out that things I thought were colorless are not colorless at all. Cities are not grey. Lisbon is yellow turquoise(寶石綠); London is very golden red…and humans are not black and white. Human skins range from light shades of orange to very dark shades of orange. We are all orange.

If we extend our senses, we will consequently extend our knowledge.

1We can infer from the article that people with achromatopsia ____________.

A.suffer from blindness

B.have a good sense of colors

C.are not able to see colors

D.like to go to concert halls and supermarkets

2What does the author mean by saying “Art galleries have become concert halls”?

A.Art galleries have been changed into various sounds.

B.Works at the art galleries are created by great musicians.

C.Art galleries are filled with noisy people.

D.The author now likes art galleries as much as concert halls.

3Which of the following statements is NOT correct?

A.Neil developed a rare disease in his childhood.

B.The eyeborg produces sounds based on shades of colors.

C.Neil will use the eyeborg for the rest of his life.

D.In Neil’s mind, all people are orange.

4What is the best title for the passage?

A.Eyeborg – a real life saver.B.I listen to color.

C.Sense the world.D.Art galleries turned into concert halls.
