On Friday, our teacher told us that there would an English corner in front of our teaching building. I set about soon after the last class in the afternoon.

To my joy, the English corner had just been on for a few minute. I joined them on their talk. At first, I was afraid that my English was so poor and limit that I couldn’t follow them or make myself understand. I was also afraid that anyone might laugh at me. But a smiling face here or an encouraging nod there soon put me at ease. Though I speak to them only in simple English that day, I believe in future I will make a greater progress.

【題目】I am angry about the behavior of dishonest in exams. I’m not saying that I’m a good student and that I’ve never cheated. I once write the answers on my hand for a history test but, unluckily, caught by my teacher. Because she was one of my most favorites, there were no words to describe how sorry I felt at once. I thought cheat would help me keep my straight A’s. Little I know that I was hurting not only herself but also my teacher. From this lesson I know our teachers want their students to succeed by learning with their own and do the best they can, not by cheating.

【題目】Everybody in this world is different from one another. But do you know that understanding differences can help you better manage your money?

As we grow up, we gradually develop a set of our own values or beliefs. These are influenced by society, our family, the education we receive and so on. Once this value system is set up, it’s not easy to change later in life.

Financial experts say that everyone also has their own belief of how to manage their finances. This is part of our value system and it has a great impact on the way we look after our money.

According to our different values, experts put us in three categories. They are: the ant, the cricket and the snail.

The ant—works first

Just like ants who work heart and soul in summer in order to store food for winter, these people don’t care about enjoying the moment. They work very hard and save money they earn so that they can enjoy life when they get old and retire. The ant loves to save but they could make more out of their money if they were willing to invest in some funds and stocks with low risk.

The cricket—fun first

The cricket wants to enjoy everything now and doesn’t think too much about the future. They even borrow money when they really want something. Many young people now belong to this group. These people have little savings. When they get old, they might have problems. They should learn to save and buy insurance.

The snail—lives under pressure

The snail refers to people who make life difficult for themselves. They take big long-term loans from the bank in order to buy things such as luxury houses. They are happy to take big loans even though they are not sure whether they can afford it. This can cause problems in the future. They should plan more carefully.

【1】People with the character of the snail would like to __________.

A. enjoy life at the moment without thinking much about the future

B. put work before everything else

C. live a luxury life at all costs

D. take the risk of investing a large sum of money

【2】Our beliefs and values are affected by the following except __________.

A. society B. our family

C. money D. education

【3】This passage mainly talks about __________.

A. the relation between man and insects

B. the spending nature of people

C. the insects in nature

D. the problems with dealing with money

【4】Which of the following has the character that the author prefers?

A. The cricket. B. The ant

C. The snail. D. None of the above.

【題目】To get to the tennis court, Conner Stroud has to push his wheelchair there.

The 15-yea-old from North Carolina, US was born without legs. But when he picks up his racquet(球拍) and begins to hit a ball, you quickly see that the young man just want to win.

Stroud began playing tennis at age 5 at the small tennis club his parents own. For years, he played against able-bodied players by putting rubber on the stumps (殘余部分) of his legs. Though he was a foot (30.48cm) or two shorter than many of the players he played against, he won a number of matches. He became well-known enough that he got to meet Rafael Nadal, his favorite player at the US Open in 2013.

“The most important thing is that he’s happy,” Nadal told reports about Stroud after that 15-minute meeting. “He’s playing tennis... That’s a great example of being happy even if life doesn’t give you everything.”

Stroud started playing wheelchair tennis at 13 and now he is No 1 in the US.

Earlier this summer, he played for the US in the world’s biggest junior wheelchair team tennis event --- the World Team Cup. He played six matches and won five of them as the US won the cup for the first time since 2000.

“He is a polite boy , but he will rip(撕扯)your heart out trying to beat you,” Jason Harnett, a United States Tennis Association coach, said of Stroud. “You see that attitude in a lot of the best players, whether they are able-bodied or disabled.

Teenage players can often get disappointed and angry. Racquets sometimes get thrown. Players shout at themselves after missed shots. Stroud never does that.

I just try to stay positive,” Stroud said. “After every point, I try to say I’m going to win the next point, or the next game, or the next game, or the whole match.

There’s always room to be positive . You can always win another time.”

【1】How is Conner Stroud different from other tennis players?

A. He was disabled in a car accident.

B. He has been coached by his father since the age of 5.

C. He is too short to be a tennis player

D. He was born disabled , yet he plays tennis well.

2What impressed Rafael Nadal the most about Conner Stroud?

A. His desire to win the match.

B. His happiness about playing tennis.

C. His faith in life, even though he is disabled.

D. The training he went through to play tennis.

3Which of the following words best described Conner Stroud?
