Papa, as a son of a dirt-poor farmer, left school early and went to work in a factory, for education was for the rich then. So, he was determined that none of his children would be denied (拒絕) an education.

Thus, Papa insisted that we learn at least one new thing each day. And dinner time seemed perfect for sharing what we had learned. We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly. Papa would listen carefully and was ready with some comment, always to the point.

Then came the moment—the time to share the day’s new learning.

Papa, at the head of the table, would push back his chair and pour a glass of red wine, ready to listen. “Felice,” he’d say, “tell me what you learned today.”

“I learned that the population of Nepal is ....” Silence.

Papa was thinking about what was said, as if the salvation (拯救) of the world would depend upon it.

“The population of Nepal. Hmm. Well….” he’d say. “Get the map; let’s see where Nepal is.” And the whole family went on a search for Nepal.

This same experience was repeated until each family member had a turn. Dinner ended only after we had a clear understanding of at least half a dozen such facts.

As children, we thought very little about these educational wonders. Our family, however, was growing together, sharing experiences and participating in one another’s education. And by looking at us, listening to us, respecting our input, affirming (肯定) our value, giving us a sense of dignity, Papa was unquestionably our most influential teacher.

Later during my training as a future teacher, I studied with some of the most famous educators. They were imparting (傳授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life.

1What did the author’s father think of his children’s education? (no more than 10 words)

2What does the underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refer to? (no more than 2 words)

3What did the author and his papa talk about at dinner time? (no more than 15 words)

4What has served the author well all his life? (no more than 8 words)

5What do you think of the author’s father? (no more than 15 words)

1Papa would let all his children get an education.

2The news.

3The author talked with his papa about what he had learnt in a day.

4The value of continual learning.

5The author’s father was a good parent insistent on his children’s education.

由第一段最后一句“So, he was determined that none of his children would be denied (拒絕) an education.” Papa would let all his children get an education.

由第二段中的句子“We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly.” The news.

由第四段中的句子“tell me what you learned today.”告訴我你今天學(xué)了什么、后面有關(guān)當(dāng)日所學(xué)尼泊爾知識的探討和倒數(shù)第三段中的句子“Dinner ended only after we had a clear understanding of at least half a dozen such facts.” The author talked with his papa about what he had learnt in a day.

由最后一段中的“They were imparting (傳授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life.”可知,爸爸一直傳授的the value of continual learning(持續(xù)學(xué)習(xí)的價值),這項(xiàng)技能使作者終生受益,所以是the value of continual learning。 The value of continual learning.

由由第一段最后一句“So, he was determined that none of his children would be denied (拒絕) an education.” 和最后一段中的“They were imparting (傳授) what Papa had known all along—the value of continual learning. His technique has served me well all my life.” The author’s father was a good parent insistent on his children’s education.

如在第2小題中,猜測it的指代意義,由第二段中的句子“We would talk about the news of the day; no matter how insignificant, it was never taken lightly.”

In many-even most-space-themed films, whenever Earth faces a disaster, the solution is always leaving the planet in spaceships. But the latest Chinese sci-fi movie,“The Wandering Earth”,offers a different idea.

In the film, which is adapted from a short story by Chinese sci-fi writer Liu Cixin, Earth is in danger of being destroyed by the dying Sun. Humans around the world work together to build a huge engine system that will push Earth away from the Sun. Instead of leaving Earth-again-this time we’re taking it with us.

This idea didn't come from nowhere. For thousands of years, Chinese people have had a special emotion at their “homeland” in their hearts and minds. One old saying is “l(fā)uo ye gui gen", which means returning to one’s homeland in old age, like fallen leaves returning to the roots of their tree. Or look to an ancient poem: “The season called the White Dew ( 白露) begins tonight/Nowhere as in our native place is the moon so bright.” These both show the strong relationship that Chinese people have had with their homeland.

This is probably what sets “The Wandering Earth" apart from Hollywood-style space films. “What is Chinese sci-fi?”Guo Fan. the film’s director, said in an interview. “Films that can really express Our cultural and spiritual core ( 精神核心) can be called Chinese sci-fi. Otherwise, we' re just copying others and telling the same American stories.

And the makers of “The Wandering Earth” may have chosen the best time to tell the Chinese sci-fi story. The film was screened on Feb 5, the first day of Chinese New Year. It was a time when many people had just made the hard journey back to their hometowns. So to them, there is only one possible way to tell the story: Earth goes wherever humans go, because it's our home.

1What can we know about “The Wandering Earth” from the passage?

A.It follows the latest film fashion.

B.It is based on Liu Cixin' s book.

C.It is a film copying foreign movies.

D.It offers us a new experience of watching films.

2What does Para 3 mainly talk about?

A.The suitable season when the film was screened.

B.The famous poems mentioned in the film.

C.The common points between Chinese films and foreign films.

D.The cultural background of the film.

3The makers of this film choose Feb5 to put on it probably because_________.

A.it was the Spring Festival and many people have time to see it.

B.many old people want to return to their hometown.

C.it can cause many people’s common feelings at this time.

D.Chinese people usually celebrate together on that day.

4What can we infer from Guo Fan's words?

A.American sci-fi fails to express its culture.

B.“The Wandering Earth" tells a foreign story.

C.Chinese sci-fi should have its own features.

D.Science fiction films should express certain spiritual cores.

Many of us think, wrongly, that the moon doesn’t change. For example, the Tang Dynasty poet Zhang Ruoxu once wrote that “Generations have come and passed away; From year to year the moons look alike, old and new.”

However, a new study published in the journal Nature Geoscience shows that the moon is in fact slowly shrinking over time. For the study, a group of US scientists examined and analyzed thousands of photographs taken by the NASA orbiter Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera. They found that there were lots of faults (斷層) on the surface of the moon. These faults were formed by recent movement on the moon.

According to NASA, the moon is made up of pieces of rocks with a hot core. The moon continued to expand as it was born. But in this process, it released energy and cooled down. Then it began to shrink, in a way comparable to the shrinking of a grape into a raisin (葡萄干) . Over the past several hundred million years, it has become 46 meters “skinnier”. But due to its hard and rocky crust (外殼), the moon’s surface continues to push up. “Some of these quakes can be fairly strong around five on the Richter scale,” said Thomas Watters, a senior scientist at the Smithsonian’s National Air and Space Museum in the US.

But does that mean the moon is a dangerous place that human shouldn’t try to explore and live on in the future? Maybe not, reported the Telegraph, “This isn’t anything to worry about. The moon may be shrinking, but not by much. It’s not going anywhere,” Watters comforted us.

The new discovery proves that the idea that the moon is a dead, boring place is wrong. “We have been to the moon and we’ve done some great science, but there is still a lot we don’t know. The moon is shrinking — we didn’t really realize that until recently. It’s a much more active and interesting place than we thought and we should explore that,” NASA scientist Nathan Williams said.

1Why does the writer quote the poem?

A.To praise the beauty of the moon.

B.To show people’s long-standing idea of the moon size.

C.To arouse people’s interest in the topic.

D.To get readers familiar with the poem.

2Which point of view about the moon may the writer agree to?

A.It is becoming slightly smaller.B.It stays the same as before.

C.It is getting older and older.D.It may disappear one day.

3What can we learn about the moon from the third paragraph?

A.It has become 46 meters fatter due to expanding.

B.It has changed from a grape into a raisin in recent years.

C.It quakes even at seven on the Richter scale.

D.It has a hot core and releases energy when expanding.

4Who thinks that we needn’t worry about the moon?

A.Zhang Ruoxu.B.Thomas Watters.

C.Nathan Williams.D.The journalist.

5What does Nathan Williams think of the moon?

A.It is a dead and boring place.B.It has lots of faults on the surface.

C.It is worth exploring moreD.It isn’t a place where we can live.
