【題目】Apply for a Library Card

Any person who lives, works or attends school in New York State is qualified to receive a New York Public Library card free of charge.

Adult and teen users may either apply online or in person at any New York Public Library location. Applications for children aged 11 and under must be completed in person, and require the signature of a parent or guardian.

When you apply for a card online, you will receive a 7-digit temporary barcode(條形碼). This allows you to set a PIN (Personal Identification Number).

After you receive your permanent barcode, which is required to borrow materials, search library databases, or reserve a computer, you must validate your card.

Renew or Validate Your Card

All adult, teen and child library cards for cardholders in New York City and areas of New York State outside of New York City expire(期滿) and must be renewed every three years. New library card applicants who applied for a card online must validate their card before full cardholder privileges can be extended.

Cardholders in New York City must visit any New York Public Library location to present the required forms of identification in order to renew or validate their card.

Cardholders from areas of New York State outside of New York City may email scans or copies of the required forms of identification to patronaccounts@nypl.org.

Forgot Your PIN?

If you provide the library with a valid email address, you can click on the Forgot Your PIN? Link on the login(登錄) screen of either Biblicisms or the Classic Catalog. A link with instructions on changing your PIN will be sent to the email address on your account, giving you a brief period of time to update your information. You must select a 4-digit numeric PIN, with no repeating or obvious characters(e.g.1234 or 2222).

If you have not provided us with a valid email address, you have to visit a library location with valid identification to have a staff member reset your PIN for you.

When the host read my name out, the audience burst into a great cheer, and my heart began to beat really fastly. The song I sing was Country Road, that is a very famous piece of American country music. I had practiced for it many times, and I didn’t think I had done a very good job. 【題目】There is an old saying about volunteer work that goes like this: “ No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”

Today, many people volunteer their time and energy to help others. There are a lot of ways to meet other people’s needs. For example, some volunteers provide help after a disaster. Others are happy to get dirty while repairing homes or planting trees or flowers in poor neighborhoods. Young people see suffering and loneliness around them and find ways to help. And history lovers help archeologists(考古學家) search for ancient objects to help deepen our knowledge of the past.

Volunteers work in many areas around the world, including Haiti. More than four years have passed since a 7.0 earthquake shook the nation. The exact number of people who died may never be known. Thousands of survivors of the Haitian earthquakes still live in temporary shelters. Last year, former American President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn joined five hundred volunteers in the town of Leogane to build houses.

Organizations do not have to be large to get volunteers. An activist group in Dharamsala, India is a good example, Jodie Underhill from England arrived in northern India several years ago. She planned to volunteer for an environmental project. She could almost not believe how much rubbish was ruining some of the area’s most beautiful sights. Jodie Underhill learned about how to deal with the rubbish while taking part in other volunteer projects. But soon enough she formed her own group, Mountain Cleaners. Jodie Underhill says the work is very hard. But she praises the group’s efforts as a wonderful experience. The young Englishwoman says the Indian media started calling her “Garbage Girl”.
