Being healthy means taking care of yourself physically and mentally. Here are some of my best tips on how to do both:
Break a bad habit. You don’t really “break” habits. You replace the unwanted behavior with something that prevents you from doing it and that doesn’t have unhealthy side effects. So if your problem is that you eat too much when you get home from work, find something new to do that is incompatible(不能共存的)with what you usually do. You can’t walk around the track at the school and pig out in your kitchen at the same time.
Grow your marriage. Relationships are negotiated, and the negotiation never stops. It’s always a give-and-take, always requires work. It’s like if you planted a garden and came back six months later----you wouldn’t even be able to find it. You have to tend it, feed it, weed it, deal with the problems.
Beat stress.  My dog, Maggie, is the best anti – stress tool I have. A few minutes petting, scratching or playing with her, and                            . Exercise also helps. Just about every day, I’m on the tennis court. It’s a great workout, and if I don’t have that, I don’t cope as well, sleep as well or think as well.
Refocus your anger. Expressing your anger is just not that good an idea. You say things you don’t mean. Instead, recognize that anger is usually a symptom of hurt, fear or frustration(挫折), and deal with the causes rather than blow up. When you do that, you’re a problem solver.
Don’t medicate with food.
It never, ever works. You’re denying your issue by eating your way through it, instead of saying, Hey, I’ve got a problem.

2從前面的句子;My dog, Maggie, is the best anti – stress tool I have.看出作者的狗可以讓他消除壓力,所以是緊張壓力都沒了。

4 從這句話You replace the unwanted behavior with something that prevents you from doing it可以用阻止你做不想做的事代替不想做得事。
5 根據(jù)第四段的句子Instead, recognize that anger is usually a symptom of hurt, fear or frustration(挫折), and deal with the causes rather than blow up. When you do that, you’re a problem solver. 可以歸納為:You should recognize that anger is usually a symptom of hurt, fear or frustration and deal with the causes rather than blow up.

[1] Teens need independence, but how do you make sure they are safe? It’s tough to decide when to give your teen more freedom. One parent’s decision for his or her teen may not be right for other parents and their teens. Although every child is different, there are many experiences common to the teenage years. The most common may be the pull and push between dependence and independence.
[2] Many teens are putting themselves at risk for committing(從事) acts of violence and other crimes. No wonder so many parents are concerned, even frightened; no wonder so many try to control the behavior of their teenage children. So, it is important for parents to make rules for their young children.
[3] However, as children get older, they need to learn to make some of their own decisions and life choices. Teens need the chance to practice good decision-making skills, and to manage new life experiences. Parents need to try their best to support their children.
[4] Respect is a two-way street but it starts with you, which means that you should give your teens the respect that you would like to be given. Give them praise for their knowledge and abilities; pay attention to and listen to them. That means showing confidence in your teens, and being supportive. Parents should believe in your teens; set high standards for them, encourage them, expect them to achieve their goals, and provide consistent(一貫的;始終如一的)love and support —including practical help—so they can achieve the promise that lies within them.
[5] Teens are learning to take care of themselves as they prepare for adulthood. That’s what growing up is all about. Give them and appropriate(適當(dāng)?shù)模?/i> amount of freedom and independence. Encourage and promote responsibility and good decision—offering support and gentle help with difficult decisions. Let your teens know they will be given _________________ as they show increasingly responsible behavior.

[1]Save the Children, the international support group, has issued a new study on the condition of mothers around the world. The study by Save the Children is part of a new campaign aimed at improving the health and education of mothers around the world. The group also hopes to pressure lawmakers to increase international aid for women’s programs.
[2]The report rates 96 countries on issues important to mothers. They include health care and family planning services the health of their children, education and political involvement, Sweden, Norway and Denmark were rated highest, followed by other industrial countries.
[3]The report confirms what Save the Children has been saying for more than 70 years. The lives of children around the world will not improve unless the lives of their mothers improve. There is a direct link between the health of children and the quality of health care, family planning services and education offered to mothers. The ten countries rated worst in the study have problems with childbirth. Less than one-third of the births in those countries are attended by trained health care professionals. Also, only three percent of the women use a system to prevent pregnancies. In these countries, one in twelve women die during childbirth. But              , the death rate for women during childbirth is only one in six thousand.
[4]Save the Children says more educational programs for mothers and girls will improve the ability of women to raise healthy babies. The group says millions of lives could be saved if more money were invested in training programs. Family planning alone could prevent one-fourth of all deaths among new–born babies and their mothers. It would teach women to wait two or more years between births.

It’s strange that a man born on Labor Day has had to work so hard to succeed in life. Jacob seems like a normal person. He likes music, art and photography. His parents both got college degrees. He used to go to a beach house in Portland every summer. He is a big fan of Mexican food. Reading these facts about him may lead to the opinion that he had a great childhood. However, behind all of these is a past that would be terrible for many kids growing up.
It started when he was only two years old. His parents divorced and then remarried. Going through elementary school and middle school, he was frightened a lot. This may have led to the worst thing that could have happened to a young man.
He developed deep depression. Doing the smart thing, he talked to his parents about his problem. His parents decided that this issue was very serious and Jacob was admitted to West Hills Hospital. He stayed there for two weeks and had his depression diagnosed. Serious insomnia caused the problem.
The solution was daily medication. The medication took care of Jacob’s depression problem. However, it contained a substance with lithium(鋰). The side effect he suffered from lithium was that he got spoonfuls of sugar and ate it with anything else that was on his plate. This led to a weight gain of 25 pounds while he was on medication. So he decided he had to lose some weight and stop the medication.
Now he has lost a big part of the weight and he has managed to solve his problem he had in high school. Now he is a happy human being.
Many people would have had a very hard time coming back from depression. Many people probably would have given up their dreams. But Jacob is not like this. He took what was a mess of his life and turned it around to become a great man and a person with a very bright future.

[1] Usually, when your teacher asks a question, there is only one correct answer. But there is one question that has millions of correct answers. That question is “What’s your name?” Everyone gives a different answer, but everyone is correct. Have you ever wondered about people’s names? Where do they come from? What do they mean?
[2] People’s first names, or given names, are chosen by their parents. Sometimes the name of a grandparent or other member of the family is used. Some parents ______________________. A boy could be named George Washington Smith; a girl could be named Helen Keller Jones.
[3] Some people give their children names that mean good things. Clara means “bright”; Beatrice means “one who gives happiness”; Donald means “world ruler”; Leonard means “as brave as a lion”.
[4] The earliest last names, or surnames, were taken from place names. A family with the name Brook or Brooks probably lived near a brook(小溪);someone who was called Longstreet probably lived on a long, paved road. The Greenwood family lived in or near a leafy forest.
[5] Other early surnames came from people’s occupations. The most common occupational name is Smith, which means a person who makes things with iron or other metals. In the past, smiths were very important workers in every town and village. Some other occupational names are: Carter — a person who owned or drove a cart; Potter —a person who made pots and pans.
[6] The ancestors of the Baker family probably baked bread for their neighbors in their native village. The Carpenter’s great-great-great-grandfather probably built houses and furniture.
[7] Sometimes people were known for the color of their hair or skin, or their size, or their special abilities. When there were two men who were named John in the same village, the John with the gray hair probably became John Gray. Or the John who was very tall could call himself John Tallman. John Fish was probably an excellent swimmer and John Lightfoot was probably a fast runner or a good dancer.
[8] Some family names were made by adding something to the father’s name. English-speaking people added –s or –son. The Johnsons are descendants of John; the Roberts family’s ancestor was Robert. Irish and Scottish people added Mac or Mc or O. Perhaps all of the MacDonnells and the McDonnells and the O’Donnells are descendants of the same Donnell.

[1]When we were children, it seemed that father knew everything. When we grew up and father became older, sometimes we quarreled about our own views. So I try to get on well with father.
[2]Remember the age of father. Being aware of father’s age will help us to understand him better. He has lived in the years when attitudes towards matters, such as poverty, unemployment, higher education, were quite different from those in our time. Thus it is impossible for him to change mind totally.
[3]Listen to father. As we grew up, what our father has told us often sounds not sophisticated(圓滑的)enough from the world we live in today. Yet I have found that sometimes the words that my father told me long time ago are remarkably useful. If father knows we respect his point of view, even if we do not share it, it will help him feel close to us.
[4]Remember that father has a past. When he was young, he lived a hard life. He came from remote village. How to stay in a strange city and how to earn money are problems he met first. He must work hard and face all kinds of difficulties. Full of wisdom, courage and hope,

[5]Accept personality from father. Most of us have mixed feelings about taking after our father. We might feel fine about it when we are considering his admirable qualities. But we have realized that we and our fathers share those characteristics we do not admire. Accepting what we have inherited(繼承)is important.
[6]Adopting any approach to get on well with our father is the issue of how we manage ourselves. We should keep a sense of humor with our father. Remember we will have our own child and surely we will be parents. Accepting and understanding our father is a part of our life.

閱讀下面的短文,并根據(jù)短文后的要求答題。(請注意問題后的字?jǐn)?shù)要求)
Your children are so different-they each have very different talents, skills, and personalities, so it can seem natural to give them labels(標(biāo)簽). For example, one child may be the “smart one” or the “artist” or the “troublemaker”. Although it is easy to                    , you can be hard for your children.
Downsides of Labels
When kids are given negative(消極) labels they often feel that parents don’t expect or want them to change, and they may feel that they should live up to their negative labels. For example:
The “messy child” may see no reason to try to be neat and tidy when his parents have already defined his role in the family.
The “troublemaker” may feel that any attempt to be good will be ignored.
The “wild child” may think that he or she might as well continue to do crazy things
because parents expect it.
Even positive labels can be problematic as children may feel uneasy to meet their parents’ expectations, and often feel uncomfortable that their parents seem to like them more than a brother or sister.
Avoiding Labels
Remember that each child is unique and has the ability to do many things and act in many different ways.
Focus on the positives. For example, if your child, who always seems to be running late, but gets to the dinner on time, be sure to praise him for being on time.
Don’t let children lock themselves into roles-encourage children to try things they are interested in.

[1]It seems parents have long been right. Going to bed early is key to getting enough sleep and helping adolescents feel on top of the world, a new study reported.
[2]A lack of sleep among youngsters may trigger depression and suicidal thoughts, according to the study by the Columbia University Medical Center.
[3]"Our results are consistent with the theory that inadequate sleep is a risk factor for depression, working with other risk and protective factors through multiple possible causal ways to the development of this mood disorder," said lead author James Gangwisch.
[4]"Adequate quality sleep could therefore be a preventative measure against depression and a treatment for depression," he added in the study published in the Friday issue of Sleep magazine.
[5]The study followed the nightly habits of some 15,659 college and high-school students, and found those who consistently turned in after midnight had a 24 percent higher risk of depression than those who                     before 10:00 pm. Night owls also ran a 20 percent higher risk of battling suicidal thoughts, the study added.
[6]The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that adolescents should sleep at least nine hours or more a night. Those who were tucked in before 10:00 pm reported they slept on average about eight hours and 10 minutes. But that amount of sleep dropped significantly for those in bed after midnight.
[7]And adolescents who slept five hours or less a night were 71 percent more likely to suffer depression and 48 percent more at risk of becoming suicidal, the study said.
[8]"It is a common perception and societal expectation that adolescents do not need as much sleep as pre-adolescents. Yet studies suggest that adolescents may actually require more sleep." said Gangwisch.
[9]"Studies have found that adolescents do not go to bed early enough to make up for earlier school start time. And transitions to earlier school start times have been shown to be associated with significant sleep deprivation."
76. What’s the main idea of the passage? (Please answer within 8 words)
77. What theory are the study results similar to? (Please answer within 20 words)
78. Fill in the blank in Paragraph 5 with proper words. (Please answer within 6 words)
