Have you ever asked yourself why people often have trouble 1 (learn) English? I hadn’t, until one day my five-year-old son asked me 2 there was ham in a hamburger. There isn’t. This made me realize that there’s no egg in eggplant either. Neither is there pine 3 apple in pineapple. This got me thinking how English can be a crazy language to learn.

For example, we can get seasick at sea, airsick in the air and carsick in a car, but we don’t get homesick when we get back home. And 4 (speak) of home, why aren’t homework and housework 5 same thing?

Even the smallest words can be 6 (confuse). When you see “WHO” in a medical report do you read it as the “who” in “Who’s that?” You also have to wonder at the unique 7 (mad) of a language in which a house can burn up as it burns down.

English 8 (invent) by people, not computers, and it reflects the 9 (create) of the human race. That is why when the stars are out, they are visible, 10 when the lights are out, they are invisible.

1learning

2whether/if

3nor

4speaking

5the

6confusing

7madness

8was invented

9creativity

10but

根據(jù)短語have trouble (in) doing sth.

故填whether/if。

故填the。

Even the smallest words can be可知應(yīng)填-ing結(jié)尾形容詞confusing,表示“令人困惑的”,解釋說明事物words。

故填was invented。

故填but。

一、找準(zhǔn)從句在主句中充當(dāng)?shù)某煞旨捶殖鍪敲~性從句的主語句、賓語從句、表語從句還是同位語從句;

二、連接詞從句中充當(dāng)?shù)某煞郑ㄖ鳌①e、定或狀語或不做任何成分);

故填whether/if

Sometimes it can be difficult to relate to the generations that have come before us. 1

But older people have plenty of wisdom and knowledge to share with younger generations, and treating them with respect should be second nature for all of us.

Call people sir or ma’am. Even if you have grown up in a more casual environment where you usually call your friends’ parents by their first names, you shouldn’t assume that all older people are comfortable with that kind of informal life. 2 They prefer you call them Mr/Mrs. That’s why it’s always best to ask what name they prefer and use sir or ma’am when you don’t feel comfortable asking.

3 While it’s true that many elderly people have health problems that may require special assistance, aging doesn’t affect all people in the same way. Assuming that an older person has poor eyesight or hearing can be extremely embarrassing and make him or her feel self-conscious. That’s especially true if you make a big deal out of it, such as raising your voice every time you speak to him or her. If you’re unsure whether an older person has such problems, just ask. 4.

Show interest in their lives. It’s easy to think that older people don’t have much going on because they don’t do many of the things that they used to when they are younger.5 When you visit or call your elderly loved ones, make sure to ask about their favorite activities. If they have a hobby that they particularly enjoy, you might even offer to do it with them. That’s a great way to show them just how interested you are in what’s important to them.

A.Do offer them necessary help.

B.Don’t assume they have disabilities.

C.However, many elderly people are still active.

D.Some elderly people may be more traditional.

E.We ourselves will be old some day in the future.

F.It’s better to be straightforward than to risk annoying someone.

G.Growing up differently makes us feel we have nothing in common with them.

The method of manual(手工的)papermaking changed very little over time, despite advances in technologies.2Separate the useful fibre from the rest of raw materials. Beat down the fibre into pulp(紙漿).Adjust the color, chemical, biological, and other properties of the paper. Screen (篩選)the resulting liquid. Press and dry to get the actual paper.
